@balaton

I can help with boot logs from all machines from my signature. Debian 8 I have installed both on Pegasos 2 and AmigaOne XE.
Hypex@forum.hyperion-entertainment.com is expert on AmigaOne XE linux, he made custom installer.

Mentioned AmigaOne IDE problems - it is DMA problem. IDE DMA should be turned off, or mitigated by hardware DMA-fix, or by using SATA SiI 3x1x controller.

I can also test something on real hardware, but I have very few time now. In Ocrober it will be much better

Powerpc AmigaOS and Morphos versions of E-UAE not support real network traffic.

Network support is enabled by .cfg parameter "bsdsocket_emu=true"
and you not need any TCP stack, it is emulated.

But, this feature not worked on MophOS and AmigaOS ports, it works on linux.
At least not worked when I tested it. Maybe in last version something changed...

I am waiting till it arrives. Then Tabor spent some time on testbed with RX460 from my linux workstation. But then for sure I will use some powerful Polaris.

For the case I will wait - at first I need upgrade my workplace to fit Sam460LE and A1222+
If you will have tip for nice case, pls let us know.

Yes, because the Pegasos2 hardware only has 2 busses, no bridges.

It is a pitty. Generally, it was no good idea. Even if hardware has no bridges inside, such thing prevents future use of many combo PCI cards.

Maybe you remember how it not work exactly ? Wasnt seen by os4 kernel, so ranger and co fail to see it, or, wasnt seen by firmware ? Or were seen by firmware, and seen by os4 kernel, but driver wasnt working correctly ?

Here is simple description how 8112 not works for me.

Quote:

Issues with driver can be sorted, but for that, kernel should see the hardware in bridge, and so radeonhd driver will try to inits at all. Currently peg2 kernel even didnt know about card in bridge, while OF know about, so RadeonHD driver didnt starts at all

That's weird. I thought that the OS is not interested in what is in front or behind the bridge. I thought that OS simply access all cards with PCI addresses which are initialized by firmware.
But I am not kernel programmer, so I can be wrong

I checked old logs and you are right - firmware recognized Polaris card ( my was RX460 ) and RadeonRX output was this:

RadeonRX (6): <rxEarlyInitRadeonRX (6): add ip block number 0 <vi_commonRadeonRX (6): add ip block number 1 <gmc_v8_0RadeonRX (6): add ip block number 2 <tonga_ihRadeonRX (6): add ip block number 3 <amdgpu_powerplayRadeonRX (6): add ip block number 4 <dce_v11_0RadeonRX (6): add ip block number 5 <gfx_v8_0RadeonRX (6): </amdgpu_device_parse_gpu_info_fw result="0x00000000"RadeonRX (6): Early init of block <vi_common>

and it ends with this messages and no graphics output.

PEX 8111/8112 not works: it means, that Sam440ep-flex or AmigaOne normally boots to AmigaOs, on serial debug there is all OK. Radeon.chip recognized gfx card HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort ouputs and diplay message: "RadeonHD card successfully opened".
But in real I see black screen with no image.

And I forgot if with 8111/2 U-Booot was visible or not - with P17C9X is U-Boot visible.

Pegasos 2, AmigaOne, Sam440ep-flex has no PCIe support. But it doesn't matter.

With transparent PCI-PCIe bridge firmware oprerates it like standart PCI-PCI bridge. And transparent means, that messages which the same both on PCI an PCIe definitions are passed-through, different are translated ( for example PCIe assert_int is "translated" to PCI hw interrupt ). Both PEX 8112 and P17C9X bridges are transparent. Hans made some driver optimalizations for 8112 bridge, but for me this bridge not worked.

The only important is, how is firmware capable recognize cards after bridge. Sam440ep do it perfectly, AmigaOne recognize card, but not setup the interrupt nr. and cache line - except this it work. PCIe cards works there with RadeonHD driver. Pegasos I don't know yet. Without correct recognition by firmware Operating System has no chance to operate the card.

Correctly recognized PCIe cards after briges is operated like standart PCI cards.
For me it works on Sam440ep-flex and AmigaOne with PCIe cards upto Southern Island, i.e. HD7970, HD7750, R9 270X. Polaris cards was not recognized.
Today I am using PCIe R9 270X with Sam440ep-flex, and on AmigaOne standart AGP card - there were problems with PCIe card speed.

@kas1e
Every PCI-PCIe bridge is in real PCIe x1.
Even if it has ×16 mechanical connector, electrically it is only x1. So you can connect x1 extender to x16 bridge connector with no slowdown.

And powered PCIe x1 - PCIe x16 adapter ( for minig rigs as geennam suggested ) is simple serial lines extension, totally passive. You not see it in Ranger.

you probably have to add the same changes which are done in U-Boot

You mean interrupt related ones ? Not sure if OF give ability to do so ?

It concerns only AmigaOne firmware, there is not correct PCI space initialization. This was only minor correction of interrupt and cache values. In any case, firmware should recognize the card behind the bridge at first - without it no correction helps.

On Pegasos 2 you made more detailed examinations than me. So I looking forward to next investigations, and sorry, I can help until sometime around October.

@kas1e
Some years ago I tested PCI-PCIe bridge Pex 8111 + PCIe graphics card + MorphOS with no success - i.e no graphics output.
I don't remember the details
Only that original PCI card HD4350 worked. No output from Open firmware, but after boot to MorphOS it worked. I have no AmigaOS this time.
In real this is no PCI gfx chip, but PCIe chip RV710 with PEX 8112 incorporated on card.

I don't remeber what PCIe cards I tested, but geennaam advice about power supply is reasonable - I am using such PCIe x1 - PCIe x16 powered adapter in Sam440ep-flex.

I have in plan check more modern graphics in Pegasos 2 too. But later - now I have in queue upgrade of Powermac G4 CPUs.
But if testing will be succesfull, I have another step:

PCI slots in Pegasos 2 are 33 MHz - i.e. slow. But Pegasos has also AGP connector. In real, it is not AGP bus, but PCI 66 MHz bus connected to AGP connector. So all card works here in PCI mode. (Marwel Discovery Northbridge has no AGP, but two PCI host bridges). So I will try this one:
Resized Image

this is AGP-PCI adapter, of course not works on real AGP bus, but on such "PCI mode" AGP like Pegasos has.

If you succesfully tested card in 33 MHz slot, here is link to adapter.
But have in mind, that it doesn't have to work - AGP connector mised LOCK signal, which some PCI cards needs. If PCI-PCIe bridge needs it, I don't know.
