Re: RAM and Printer advice needed.

@Troels

I have an HP LaserJet 5L, a compact printer that uses either serial or parallel and delivers excellent B/W results. I also have an Epson Workforce 315 connected to the network which I share with my A1 and PC for color printouts and scanning.

Delete everything in userdata/ but not the directory itself.

Run it again, but make sure it's installed on the harddrive; Not ran from RAM:.

The proper release will have to be delayed due to a crash when trying to play online. If I can't fix it, it'll still be uploaded eventually.

Edit: Works reasonably well if played between 2 OS4 machines, and the connecting player disconnects before quitting. Released.

I downloaded the archive from OS4Depot and deleted everything in userdata/ before reinstalling it, but it still hangs after loading all the levels.

Edit:

I solved my problem with X-Moto not working; I had an obsolete libcairo.so in the path before the most recent one. Deleted that one and X-Moto works a charm now.

The first time I tried it it started loading all the levels and when it got to the end of loading it just hung there saying "Loading...". Now when I try to run it I get the screen saying "Loading..." and nothing else happens.

After a little playing around I got Quake to work just fine on my Sam, but QuakeII is running very slow so that is probably a configuration problem on my end. I don't have any data files to try Quake 3. And I'd like to try Payback but don't know where I could buy a copy.

Freespace was working fine under AOS4.0 AFAIR but I should try it again just to see if I am facing the same problem !

Thanks for the info on SMW...interesting game!

Yes, please try Freespace again so we can know if it's a problem with one of the recent updates or if it's a configuration problem on my end. I know it was working under OS4 Final, but not having played it for a while I don't know if it stopped working after update 1 or 2.

Mr Capehill made a new AOS4 port of Quake2, maybe you have better luck with this one

http://capehill.kapsi.fi/

That was the one that froze up totaly before I reinstalled the Hyperion update which does run, but like molasses.

At any rate the final score so far:

Both prboom and QuakeII run, although as I said QuakeII runs very slowly on my Sam. Freespace, which use to run fine under OS4 Final, now freezes on the 'loading' screen. And HereticII now GR's after finding the CD. I think I'll try installing Heretic under 3.0 and copying the directory over to OS4 and see if that makes a difference.

@Mikey_C

IIRC, HereticII installed with no problems on the Sam; Freespace got part way through before it failed (I ended up using Envoy to copy my Freespace install over from the A1.)

@all

The results I got were with the A1 having the ixemul.library and the Sam without. Since the results were pretty much the same on both machines I figured copying over the ixemul.library to the Sam wasn't going to change anything and it didn't. So it appears the ixemul.library isn't called upon anymore.

Update:

Re-downloaded the QuakeII update and applied it to the Sam. The game now runs but so slowly as to be totaly unplayable. Might as well just lock up from the start...

@AmiKit

As of today here are my results:

<b>Freespace</b> freezes at the "loading" screen on both the A1 and Sam.

<b>Prboom</b> works on both the A1 and Sam (for some reason doesn't work from AmiDock on the A1.)

<b>Quake</b> stops at a black screen on both the A1 and Sam.

<b>QuakeII</b> used to work fine on the A1; now comes up with a 'vidplay: unknown command' error. On the Sam nothing happens and it eventually locks up the system totally.

<b>HereticII</b> GR's on both the A1 and Sam.

I haven't been able to find a place to buy Shogo and Wipeout so that I can give them a try.

Hey, it's good to see someone is working on genealogy software for Amiga. That's one project I was considering for myself, right after the wholly unrealistic porting of TortoiseSVN.

I don't think I can afford the time to help test your software at the moment, but good luck with the project!

Thanks. However you'll probably want to keep your project option open. I'm writing this in a compiled BASIC so it doesn't take full advantage of the system.

Ok, I've added a very primitive Export Gedcom function to AmiGen. The Import Gedcom is going to be a litte more difficult to write. In order to do so and also improve the Export function some example gedcom files would be very useful. If you happen to know where I might find some that would be very helpful. I haven't look at Legacy yet to see if there are any additional formats to implement.

What program does your wife use? Currently AmiGen doesn't import any data yet from other programs, so I want to hear from users what formats they'd like or need. I do have plans to include the gedcom and paf formats in the future.
