Yes DOSBox works great, but it stops at the end era of MS-DOS so to 1997 - 1998. To go forward with PC emulation and have support for some newer software at a satisfactory speed we must have a JIT-enabled emulator that can run at least Windows 95 without problems.
Then there's PCem, which would be an interesting alternative to DOSBOx, because it also supports newer stuff developed for Windows. I have no idea how easy it would be to port it to AmigaOS 4. https://pcem-emulator.co.uk/index.html
@Raziel I have a problem with the game Gobliiins 5. I downloaded the demo from the official site on itch.io. I unzipped the zip archive, copied it to ScummVM, then added the game, which ScummVM recognized without any problem.
I would also add that in the saves directory I have a timestamps file, which was created back when I was using an older version of SCummVM, and it collects savegame information for various games.
When trying to start Gobliiins 5, a message pops up assign timestamps volume:, whether I assign anything or select cancel. Another message appears asking me to assign gobliiins5-1.999
Then I get the message
Error: Invalid attempt co create file /saves/goooblins5-1.999!
The game, of course, does not start. I will add that other previously installed games work ok.
I know you've already shown many great videos here, but I'll add my own. It is different from yours because it shows the differences between the games in the original version and the games in the MSU1 version.
For the first 6 minutes I tell you what MSU1 is, so you can scroll through it, although there are English subtitles (AI-generated, so not perfect). I'm still presenting games.
The Polish NG scene is very active (they even have their own print magazine dedicated to NG Amiga systems!) but they seem to keep to themselves a lot, rather than open up to the world. As a result we can miss much of what is happening there.
Unfortunately, I do not have the time or sufficient skills to create different language versions for my articles or videos. Fortunately, the AI is getting better and better. And experimentally, using AI software, we transcribed our film into English and German. This is an interview with Szymon Ulatowski, known perhaps not only in Poland as the author of Amiga games from the 1990s. He created games such as UBek and Boulder Dash 3D.
Let us know if the quality of the subtitle translation is good and what we are talking about is understandable. We have more interviews with Poles who have created even more recognizable titles outside Poland. Well, we don't know if it makes sense to post these transcripts in the future. So I'm waiting for your opinions.
Hyperion has had a new beta version for a year. This version is quite stable and has some new features, e.g. it works with some classic Amiga joystick adapters that do not work on public AmigaInput. I even appealed on the beta list to release AmigaInput via Amiupdate along with the release of Heretic II, because it's very nice to play Heretic and be able to use the crosshair and the left and right sticks independently. I remember that the developer working on the corrections in AmigaInput gave permission for this. Well, let's see what Hyperion will do.
@All Does anyone find some old 68k demos/apps which works now with new CIA stuff added ? Interesting to know if anything new working now as well.
I checked out SimCity 2000, and of course firing up the game is not that easy. I installed a patch from Aminet. Then I had to use the old Newmode program to promote the game to 640x480 mode in 8Bit. Then I still had to click 2 times on Ignore errors in GR. Only then does the game fire up, but unfortunately the graphics on my current Radeon RX 560 still display erroneously. I remember that 10 years ago when I still had the old Radeon HD 4770 it displayed fine. However, at that time, when I used CIAGent exclusively, the game did not make any sounds of itself, there was complete silence. Now, thanks to Nallepuh, there is sound.
@msteed I have also heard that not only the Polaris cards, but also some of the latest models in the R7 family do not soft reset. However, my Radeon Power Color R7 240 fortunately does not have this problem. Specifically, I bought this model:
The graphics card in my X1000 also died a few weeks ago. I didn't want to buy Polaris because I depended on a soft reset, which is crucial with a computer that takes as long to boot as the X1000. So I bought an R7 240, probably the last model of the SI family that can be bought new on the European market (or at least in Poland you can still buy the last pieces). The old R9 270 card was indeed very large, had two huge fans and took up 2 slots. However, the R7 240 is sleek and tiny, occupies one slot on the case, and has one small fan. I think it's better to buy a new card from a reliable store than a used one at an auction, which has probably already been repaired and will not work for a long time.
Thanks for the hint. I was using the public version 53.12 from OS4Depot, but I remembered that it wouldn't work for me even when I was emulating the SAM460. Fortunately, as a beta tester of the system, I also have access to a non-public version 53.11, which has the same featuress, and works with SAM460 emulation and it turns out that it also works with Pegasos 2 Emulation.
I tried in recent days Qemu with SAM460 emulation. I haven't had any major problems, but SAM460 emulation is very slow.
I decided to try it today with Pegasos 2. Unfortunately, I don't have firmware for this computer, so I wanted to use the BBoot tool. I did everything with the instructions. I use the Qemu compilation for Windows dated 22.08.2023 After that I typed the command line:
In my X5000 and Logitech F310, the controller works very well and the game is very comfortable. You do not even need to configure anything, because the corresponding pad buttons are immediately assigned.
Ok, I just updated Slave 2.3. In fact, he has a lot of corrections related to graphics displaying. I activated them all. This is how I can also play at the CPU = max. Of course, the NOVBRMOVE parameter, as in the case of the previous version of Slave, I have active.
