Re: Sam440ep project completed
This is AWESOME!!!!!
Only thing better could be a G4 at 1.6+ GHz, with the same "extras" (and 4 Gigs DDR2 as max.). Here's the key statement, boys and girls, "The porting of a number of Operating Systems has already begun." Geee, wonder what that means??? Know what? In a strange peculiar way, maybe April 1st is somehow appropriate! (Seeing as we missed the 20th year and day of Amiga. ) |

Re: Sam440ep project completed
How many "KLuts" will be needed to get ECS working on a Sam 440 board?
How many "KLuts" will be needed to get AGA working on a Sam 440 board? Can chip ram go above 2 Megabytes this way? It should be possible to do a hack?! There is LOTS of SW that would be cool, if it had access to more chip ram. Could it boot directly into AOS1.3.3? FINALLY I can get my AMOS game going again! |

Re: Sam440ep project completed
Sorry, one more thing....
It being such a low wattage at 533 MHz, let's say it's 5 or 6 watts at 667 MHz, then in an Amiga Phantasy case, it could have the PSU right inside there! How cool would THAT be???? |

Re: Sam440ep project completed
If there were 4 CPUs at 667 MHz put on the motherboard, that would be 2,668 MHz of power, and there'd be 8 10/100's on there running upto 8 Gigs of ram, THAT is a server!

Re: Sam440ep project completed
@Atheist
I agree that a higher specced hardware would be nice, but beggars are no choosers!! SAM has advantages to run at low watts and passively unlike a G5 Altivec powerhouse! We need hardware for all the peoples who want to start using OS4 and dont have so much money. For them Samantha is good I think. When the community has grown and there are more demanding apps available, we can still go PA Semi or Dual G5! |

@Helge
Weak hardware or not, doesn't matter. At least something to run OS4 on for the masses. |

Re: Sam440ep project completed
Hey all - does anyone know where to find a proper specs list for the Sam440EP? I have found various variations, all second or third hand information, and the official site has the specs for the 440EP SoC itself , but not the Sam(?) ... weird...

Good news, but I hope AmigaOS 4 will work on this great hardware very very soon.

This is good news, but .....
I still can't buy an AmigaOS4 computer system as of today. When that is the news item I'll be celebrating more loudly. |

Re: Sam440ep project completed
@amikit
These are the specs till nowadays (or at least I haven?t heard or read any changes about them). ACube keapt their word and we have to respect that. Even in the interview with Max he stated that the first 100-150 boars will be for developers and their new statement says "The board is actually available for selected industrial customers". They have formed alliance with the developer of OS4, we have given the results of a test running UBoot, the board has reached the deadline, so I guess we can only expect only good news from ACube (and Hyperion). |

Yeah I hear this alot from the Genesi fans.. But if Amiga Inc. don't want Genesi for a partner for whatever reason.. What PPC hardware is out there? You say it was never a problem, so please answer this. And no, I don't want the usual answer that they SHOULD have done a deal with Genesi.. |

Re: Sam440ep project completed
The PS3 is out there, PPC MAC is also out there.
Support for one Mac laptop and the PS3 would accompany the SAM very well IMHO. |
