so I'll be using SFS/02 on my new 512GB SSD HD.

for a 100+GB partition what block size and how many buffers should I Use?

for the small (1GB) boot drive I belive default block size is 1024 and buffers 600...thouigh I'm sure I've read for SSD's it should be 4096..not usre baout buffers ?

I use 128 buffers (everything bigger will just eat away ram with no speed benefits) with 4096 blocksize on all SSD partitions without problems since years.

Bootpartition (the one that holds boot.of) needs to be FFS (blocksize and buffers doesn't matter as it is only shortly accessed during CFE/UBoot to kick off HDD boot).
Also 1 GB is total overkill since the boot.of file is only around 50 KB.
I reduced it to the smallest size possible with 4096 blocksize, can't remember how much it was.

interesting as I've had my real 'moving parts' HD in my X1K since 2011 all with buffers at 600 and haven't noticed any issues with RAM usage etc. but I'll take your advice and use 128

also, that small amigaboot file you're referring to I've been loading it off the onboard CF card since I set up my X1K..back then it couldn't be loaded off the HD if I recall correctly

Yes, i had buffers set to 600 too for a century.
Then I started to get RAM shortages during compiling of ScummVM and began to look around for cures.

I did a lot of speed tests with different buffer settings and using a SSD didn't show any slowdowns in speed using less or more buffers.

Since then I reduced buffers and had no issues whatsoever...but gained some MBs of RAM.

Ah, I see, using a CF card works too
