Linux questions thread
Home away from home

Hey,

Are there any linux cracks around?

I'm in the process of switching from windows to linux (ZorinOS for now).

I've made quite some progress, but still face some problems.

If anyone know an answer, please speak up.

- I have a NAS (Synology) in my home network with all my music, made available by mounting it through smb.

So far so good, but...
1) How can I make linux to remember user/password combos, so I don't have to type them after every reboot?
ZorinOS features a "remember password forever" checkmark on mounting the share, but that doesn't seem to work on reboots.

2) How can I set a drive letter or similar to the NAS mount, so access from programs, like a Tag Editor, becomes possible w/o copying the music files around?
Right now, the share wont show up in programs file listed.

Thank you

@Raziel

Mount it as a CIFS share in /etc/fstab.

You won't get a drive letter - Linux has no such concept - but you will get a known mount point.

This looks like quite a good guide:

@all

One more question.
My old desktop doesn't have wifi, but I do have a wifi usb dongle.
Unfortunately linux doesn't automatically install the drivers.

How would I approach that?
