InfiniteIcons consumes too much space by default

I appreciate the work involved in InfiniteIcons. I have bought it. But the amount of space it requires is not acceptable. There needs to be further options in the installer or, at the least, some text in the ReadMe that states the amount of space required.

A lot of people have a fairly small system partition. Going forward, for anyone wanting to use InfiniteIcons, they will need to create a system partition of somewhere near 4/5GB, at least.

There should be more options to deselect some of the default installations. It seems like it is just installing absolutely every combination and this means that there is a lot of wasted space. If, instead, the installer asked the user what general theme of icon they wanted, then masses of space could go un-wasted.

As with any installation in the Amiga world, it is not really possible to uninstall everything that has been installed after finding out that the system partition is full.

Thankfully, I am in the process of messing around with a new system installation so this is not too much of an issue for me.

I will now have to consult the installation scripts to find out what I need to remove. Not ideal but no big loss.

I guess an alternative is to install it all to the non-system partition and then pick and choose what you want; again, this should be handled by the initial installer.

Of course, another alternative is that users are expected to have large system partitions but for a lot of Amigans this goes against the grain.

Recommendations:
- State how much space is required in the ReadMe
- Allow selections for the user during installation in order to reduce installation space on the system partition; again, I have not looked into this but if the installer installs the the black icons, the blue icons, the yellow icons, the red icons... then create a selection box
- Create an option to uninstall the installed files in the installer

Even when installing to a different partition, the installer installs things to the system partition. Backdrops are installed into the system partition, whether you like it or not. The backdrops take a lot of space.

You can switch the icon set without installing the icons.

Mount the ISO image and go to drawer "Packages/Icons/Icons/Infinite Icons". There you can see the drawers of the available icon sets. Open the icon set drawer you'd like to use, for example drawer "Ancient Copper". There you can see the available "Use" icons. Double click the one you'd like to use and the icons will be switched.

The icons were originally designed for the Next Gen Amiga so lack of space should not be an obstacle for them.

I have installed AmigaOS4.1 hundreds of times with different System partition size options starting from 1Gb and now 10Gb,
the operating system is not slower the larger the partition is so this should not be a problem why the partition could not be bigger.

I understand that if the current configuration is with a smaller system partition, although this is also relatively easy to
change to a larger one and get the old system to use with a larger space.

- I will put that information about the package size in the next update.

- The new updated installer has already a warning about that if the System partition does not have enough space,
unfortunately the operating system does not react to this in any way, so the installation continues regardless even if there is no space,
the programmer has sent a message to Hyperion about this problem, so it is a problem with the AmigaOS installer,
apparently. Updated installer with warning comes in next 1.2 update.

I hear it is a bit technically difficult to implement and there were some drawbacks to it, also it is not a free operation but a fairly large amount of money
that would go into that, so I do not yet consider these to be completely necessary features to add right away.

- Uninstalling the package is relatively easy, if you have installed the files where it suggests, i.e. Sys->Prefs->Presets:
then you remove the Icons drawer, the Infinite Icons drawer, the Infinite Icons drawer inside the Patterns drawer
and the Infinite Icons drawer inside the Backdrops drawer,
I have done this myself hundreds of times when testing icons and there have been no problems.

I have to ask about this problem, it seems like there is a bug in the installer that does this.

Did you know that you don't need to install GUI materials, there is an option in the installer to check if you want to install nothing but icons.

Another thing that a previous commenter mentioned, you don't necessarily need to install icons, you can change them
directly from the iso file.

Another one to take a look at, is SYS:Locale and then kick all those languages out, which with a high probability you will never, ever use. Some 4Mb to reclaim.

Of my installations (4), only a mere 455Mb is used, while 1,280Mb is allocated, wasting nearly 65%! The disk has a capacity of 100Gb SSD, but none the less that's against the grain of an Amigan.
