So where are the figures for *before* the conversion? You said "10-11C higher", but we can't compare them unless you give us the figures.

Your figures for *after* the conversion are all very consistent for the rise above (case) ambient:

Case 30, CPU +7, Core 1 +13, Core 2 +9
Case 33, CPU +6, Core 1 +12, Core 2 +8
Case 37, CPU +6, Core 1 +11, Core 2 +7

Those temperature rises are all pretty close.

But what were they before the conversion?

Sorry for late reply. I only can remember the temperature for Core1 and Core2 and with the following setup:

"With side door fan enabled, but rotation reduced by half by controlling
voltage"

With old cpu cooling element, the results were:

Core1: 49-50°C
Core2: 53-54°C

These numbers were the regular ones when my X1000 ran for a while. I never tried to measure the "maximum" numbers, so they might be even higher when cpu is permanently at 100% load.

As a reminder, the following were the numbers with the new MAGMABreath silent 80 running for at least 1h with maximum cpu load
and

"With side door fan enabled, but rotation reduced by half by controlling
voltage"

Case: 30°C
CPU: 37°C
Core1: 43°C
Core2: 39°C

So, indeed around 10°C less. Actually, I did not replace the fan and cooling element because of the heat. I replaced them to get a silent system. So, with not useing the side door fan, I have and indeed *silent* system and the temperatures are still a few degree lower than they were before.

Re: X1000 CPU cooling

@MARCOM

I wrote the report in GERMAN :)

Anyway, here is a brief summary:

I bought the MAGMABreath Super Silent 80 and replaced the original cooler and fan!
Now, I have a super silent X1000, which is so silent that you barely can hear her anymore :)

For those of you interested in details:

I have a Commodore Ckin Case with 1x 120mm fan at the front and 1x 120mm fan in the rear of the case, and additionaly 1x 190mm fan at the side door. My GFX card is a fanless RadeonHD 4850 passively cooled one.

I have done a series of tests with my X1000 and X1kTemp.docky to record temperatures of CPU, Core1, Core2 and Case. The following maximum values, I could observe with AOS4 running for several hours at 100% CPU load:

With side door fan enabled, but rotation reduced by half by controlling voltage:
Case: 30°C
CPU: 37°C
Core1: 43°C
Core2: 39°C

For comparision: the values with original cooler and fan and the rotation of the side fan not reduced at all, are all 10-11C higher!

With side door fan enabled, but with maximal reduced rotation:
Case: 33°C
CPU: 39°C
Core1: 45°C
Core2: 41°C

Side door fan disabled:
Case: 37°C
CPU: 43°C
Core1: 48°C
Core2: 44°C

For more detailed report, you can find here a report in German (click on "Bewertungen"):

MAGMABreath Super Silent 80

P.S. I should have mentioned that I have heaters in the floor and my X1000 is positioned on the floor as well. Hence, I am very satisfied by these cooling results despite the extra heat from below!

Yes, as it was suggested during the installation. I'll try tonight if deactivating this option avoids the freezing.

By the way, interestingly, the freeze only happens when moving a window (maybe because of the way movement is done with Motif -- non-opaque movement but instead, movement of a grid-window replacing the original window). Oh and AOS4 still works. It appears as if Amicygnix doesnt get any mouse events anymore.

Thanks,

When choosing Motif as Windowmanager (because it's faster than Openbox and I like it minimalistic ;) ), AmiCygnix freezes on my X1000 (AOS4.1 Update 6) when moving a window.

AmixCygnix works fine with Openbox.

Okay, thanks for the explanation. I guess, connecting a touch screen device (like, tablet, laptop) to a projector does the same then? (Only the the interactive input is moved from projected screen to the source device). I wonder what solution is cheaper. ;)

I'm not sure what a smartboard is, but you also can compile hollywood for windows or linux. I gave my presentation on a linux laptop. The nice thing with hwbeamer is, that you can have a second window (placed on you laptop screen, not on the projector`s screen) that shows "hidden text", e.g. additional infos that reminds you what you wanted to mention additionally to the infos on a slide. And also it shows the time passed since the presentation was started. In this way, you always know if you are in time or if you have to speed up :)

Slides with text blocks + animations, FX-effects can be easily defined like this:

p_slide(
Function()

Local b0 = {heading="My Block Heading"
,"Some COLOURFUL text"
,"some text with a [/p] pause"
}

Local b1={heading="Block with numbering instead of bullets"
,"Line one of this block"
,"Line two of this block"
,"Line three of this block"
,enum=True}

Local fxT={movein={#LEFT,-300},moveout={#RIGHT,-300}}
Local lid = p_block(b0,nil,fxT
,b1,nil,fxT
,#CENTER)

If (lid) Then p_triggerNextPage()

EndFunction
)

This code creates a slide with 2 text blocks that are moved in from left to right. The first block has bullets at each line and for the second block, the lines are enumerated.

I may provide some simple example source sooner or later :)

Tom

the effects on the alpha channel are a little bit slow (on all platforms) -- depending on the resolution.

I recommend 1024x768 -- more is not necessary for presentations (actually typical projectors do not support for higher resolutions. At least not at my working place ;) ). On my X1000 it is not slower than on my linux laptop :) The code is absolutely not optimised in any way. In the contrary. I actually was in hurry :D

The video was recorded on my X1000 in 800x600. See youtube description.

hwbeamer - Any Amigans in scientific Research, Presentations, Talks?

Hi all,

I wonder if other people are here who work \ study in areas where they have to give scientific talks or presentations of any kind?

I developed with Hollywood a presentation software, copying the look & feel of Latex's beamer package and enhanced it with the additional full power of Hollywood like result computations, algorithmic implementations and, of course, animations. I called it "hwbeamer ".

I've successfully given just recently my PhD talk.
Have a look at my YouTube video of my slides.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-M9vzg5aNYk

There you also find some more information about hwbeamer, the setup and my presentation.

If there is some interest I would open source hwbeamer (if permitted by Airsoft Softwair) because I don't have the time to make it fail safe. It works fine for me but I know exactly how to use it. There is also almost no documentation available at the moment. So I wonder if there is some interest in such a presentation software and, more important, if there is someone willing to help/further develop such software.

Feel also free to test my compiled slide binaries for AmigaOS, MorphOS, Aros, Windows, Linux and MacOS -- oh, and of course, I also mentioned Amiga in my slides ;)

http://www.mpi-inf.mpg.de/~tcrecel/slides/

cheers,
Tom

nice article, but this:

".. they can also be mouse-dragged vertically to reveal other screens hiding behind."

is incomplete knowledge ;) Screen can be dragged in ANY direction since AOS4 -- not just vertically :)

Re: New TimberWolf beta available

Just popping in

Just tested it for a few minutes this morning.
Bookmarks still don't work here. When I try to bookmark a webpage, simply nothing happens. The bookmark is not remembered? Am I doing something especially wrong? I mean, I'm not used to firefox (-- been in love with opera on non-amiga systems ;) ) but pressing the "+" Button or chosing "Bookmark this page" from the menu should bookmark a page right? But "showing all bookmarks" from the menu opens a window which is empty.

I deleted the old timberwolf-beta directory and then uncompressed the new timerbolf-beta to the same location.
Without having intensively studied the readme, I guess, it's all what I have to do, right?

Hope, to have more time tonight.

sorry, was too late yesterday when I finally arrived home.
Work is occupying me completely at the moment :(
I'll try tonight again :)

I'll have to get a cable and check the external ports out. And GiggleDisk is of course also worth a shot, although I'd have thought it should technically only be seeing what we see with other tools as well. Is your eSATA disk formatted with an Amigaoid file system, or with FAT?

Actually, it is formated meanwhile with several ext2 partitions. But i also tested the HD in the beginning with Fat32 and, I think, SFS2. No problems here. I could mount every partition with GiggleDisk.
