You'd think from here in Michigan to the state of Washington there would be one busy dealership? Economics is having an effect here. Michigan ranks 50th of worse US states. I'm seriously think of passing the OS4.1 upgrade. It's a $200+ USD upgrade which I don't exactly have that right now. OK, there's the credit card, but...

Me too!

I emailed Software Hut at the beginning of July and when I received no response, I too ordered from AmigaKit. However, I just received a response from SoftHut yesterday and Joe wasn't even aware of the OS 4.1 release.

Sounds like he has given up on reading at least one forum or even his business email. I never received any response, at least so far.

My interpretation of his email is that he was expecting to hear from Amiga Inc. about any new developments for A1/OS4 (laughing loudly at the thought that AI is doing anything useful).

Laughing out loud is good for you. Also very correct for this situation.

I can't really blame Joe for concentrating on earning a living when the Amiga market is barely alive in the U.S.

Nor can I blame him. There is not much market left thanks to McFries. I wish Joe well.

@AmigaClyde

You get good service from AmigaKit. I've been using them.

The biggest problem I see is repairs. I don't like shipping my machine anywhere. I prefer to drop off and pick up to avoid shipping damage. But, what are you going to do when there are not any repair shops for hundreds of miles around?

At the very least in the Northeast US. I ordered my earlybird A1 from Software Hut.

I think it is something like $165.00. Don't let the credit card tempt you though. I use my credit card a lot, but only when I know I can pay it off each month.

I ordered my OS4.1 from AmigaKit. It was 87.24 GBP plus 4.78 GBP shipping for a total of 92.02 GBP.

The exchange rate at that time was 1 USD = 0.522526 GBP.

This worked out to $165.90 USD, plus $9.32 USD shipping, plus trackable/insured $4.17 USD for a total of $179.39 USD.

The USD has been gaining strength lately so perhaps the exchange rate will be more favorable now than when I ordered.

As soon as OS4.1 gets here I will be switching to sata drives and put that pata squawker to rest.

You gotta estimate of cost for this change over? I'd be curious to know? Under a hundred USD maybe?

I had been planning on switching to sata for a long time so I kept scanning the sale ads for drives. Finally I read that Best Buy was having a half off sale on "selected" sata drives. I drove right into town and got one.

You may not want to wait for a sale so the price you pay will depend on the size of the drive(s) you purchase. There are good buys to be had on the internet.

I ordered my sata controller from AmigaKit last June. It arrived in less than a week.

So, yes I would say you can keep it under $100.00. It will all depend on the drive(s) you get. I spent less than $100.00.

@Raziel

Thanks, I'll do that after OS4.1 arrives. I have to open up the case then to install the sata gear.

It feels sort of odd paying for an AmigaOS update. It's been that long! Hopefully, we will have many more updates in the future years to pay for.

@Monoxyde

My A1 has a hard drive which is sure squawking though. It starts out quite loud and tapers off as time passes. It did this once before for a couple of days, then quit for months. I wonder what this is telling me, sigh.

As soon as OS4.1 gets here I will be switching to sata drives and put that pata squawker to rest.

I've sent Kurt Grach at RevancheLLC.com an Email about OS4 updates and GFX cards and heard nothing. It really bugs me that there's no "live" dealer in the whole US. That's amazing! Maybe the Amiga is really dead, at least in the Americas! Some else just tried Softhut.com and got nothing. Anybody else?

I've also emailed the Amiga dealers here in the states which I use to do business with. The emails are not returned, but alas there is never a reply.

So, AmigaKit is getting my business.

Oh so true. That's why there is a choice of themes on some sites. And yes, I did find a choice of two themes on this site in the left menu at the bottom. I am using the first one called klesterir_hnl. The other choice called mason_hnl looks good to me also.

In my younger days I would have said the same. Just keep living and your eyes may complain more as mine do. Not everyone has youthful eyes.

Well, not so youthful either, and I have other eye related problems, but luckily not for viewing monitors (when using glasses).

I see very well until it comes to reading, then I have to wear reading glasses. When using my reading glasses I also do not have any trouble viewing monitors. Those designs were nice. It was just all those dark colors used together which makes it difficult to read.

Look at this site, for instance, They use dark colors on the top and along the left menu, but it is perfectly clear for me to read. I don't see a site preference on here so you may have the same dark red on the top with white lettering. The left menu has a combination of dark red, white, and black. It is all easy on my eyes.

My Mother came down with macular degeneration in her later years. I hope that is not starting in on me.

Can you make a few snapshots so I can see if there's something that doesn't render correctly?

All I can say is that your snapshots are how they appear in both of my browsers also. The thing is that my eyesight is not as great as it use to be and the contrast is not good on the ones using the black background with the exception of the 3rd one down.

Numbering from the top down:
1- looks best to me
2- looks 2nd best to my eyes
3- Not bad with the letters outlined in white
4- Too much black, can't read Nickman's name
5- Too much black, can't read Nickman's name
6- Contrast very bad on this one
7- Contrast not good on this one

As I say I have to use my eyes and trying to read letter colors which are close to the background color is difficult for me.

The new look is very cool ! Great work and great logos

The original logo displayed nice on every browser I used to access the site. I liked it.

These new logos display terrible on my OS4 IBrowse and XP Firefox. The ones with the black background are almost unreadable. Maybe it is my color preferences.

The original still displays nice.
