@Swoop Quote: 1. You need to set up the two required partitions before installing OS4.1, and not during. You have to select the partition where you want OS4.1 installed, and you cannot do that until you have formatted it.
The installation utility allows all hard drive setup to be done from it. There is no need to have to set anything up prior to installing the OS. It can be done from a blank HD. You can launch Media Toolbox from the installer, which allows you to set up the partitions, then you can format any partitions you want from the installer afterwards. No need for prior preparation. As with any changes to hard disks in Media Toolbox, you will be required to reboot, and this will then mount the drives as NDOS, which can be formatted from the installer Quote: 2. The swap partition needs to be recognised on workbench to be named, so it has to have a filesystem other than swap, for you to name it. Once it is named you can go in and change block size and file system.
Again, the SWAP partition can be set purely from the installer, it does not need to be named in the sense of a mounted volume. Simply call the partition SWAP in Media Toolbox's partition editor window. Quote: 3. JXFS needs a block size of 512, but I only know this from reading on the forums. It is mentioned that sfs needs 512, but not JXFS.
That was a slight ommision from the guide, sorry Simon

@Swoop
You should not experience any problems in merging the two partitions in this way. Using Media Toolbox to do this will inform you when saving the chages to the drive which partitions will be destroyed. Provided you dont move the high and low boundaries, the neighbouring partitions should be untouched. If in doubt, backup everything before starting, which may not be a bad idea anyway.
Enjoy your SWAP partition, it's superb :)

Although the actual program is not ready yet, I have made the program documentation available so that a better understanding of the included features can be seen. The current documentation reflects the stage of development so far, I doubt it will change much between now and a release, but you never know:) Anyway, you can read it hereSimon

I have updated the library checking tutorial quite a bit (mainly for SpotUp :), and there is some new code sections at the bottom which may prove useful.

@orgin
Exactly right. Whether the Amiga version string standard does or doesn't have the flexibility to allow Linux version strings is besides the point.
Standards are standards (even if AmiUpdate does support the 1.1.1 version strings :)

@Chris
I'm not really surprised. Seems people are having enough trouble understanding this simpler form of versioning, which is why this document came about.
If we all stick to the specified standards, we'll be OK :)

I know this isn't directed strictly at AISS, but if Dave Norris is looking in on this, any chance the he could update his AISSView program to suit the new AISS images. The version I have seems to miss out on quite a few (the OS4Depot version).
It's a great piece of software for managing Masons huge library of images, it just needs to be kept up to date.

@Gazelle Quote: Gazelle wrote: I also think that the leading zero for day or month is not required.
While bumprev doesn't supply them, and the internal locale routines don't specifically require them either, it is workable to leave them out, although the specified standard stipulates that the day and month are two digit. If it really bothers anyone, send the code to me and I'll add the two zeros to save them the bother :P Quote: And a leading zero infront of the revision does mean a subrevision eg like the AmigaOS: 2.0 -> 2.04 -> 2.05 ->2.1
Maybe this was dropped again after release 2.1
I very much doubt that this was part of the version string standard (my reference material is not available to check), and is certainly not applicable by todays standards. The above numbering system implies a decimal number, which would follow the numerical sequence. Version strings do not follow the decimal notation for their version and revision. Simon

By default, the transparency is set to: Active Window: 0% Inactive Window: 15% Dragged Window: 30% These can be set to whatever the user wants in Prefs/GUI. Simon

I think you got that round the wrong way Quote: You want money, don't beg for it with half ass efforts. Develope the browser on your time and sell it to me on my time! IBrowse done it that way, why can't you?
This no no "half-ass" effort. The "Featured Donations" initiative is a chance for the community to show their appreciation to the devlopers that are still producing software. There has been no mention of money from Chris regarding NetSurf. As far as getting "sucker-punched" in previous projects, well, shame on you, no-one is forcing you to donate to anything. Personally, I applaud Chris for spending his time to benefit the Amiga community, well done to him! Simon
