Re: 68k apps and screen promoute on os4/peg2 questions

@salass00

Thanks a lot again ! It works ! The good think, that i can setup any mode now and choice for example 400x300, which looks better than 640x256 , but looks good.

Btw, have os4 any kind of utility for "move" the screen ? I.e. for my monitor, with p96, all my modes (almost everyone) over the 'bounds'. I think it's becouse of monitor, but it possible to "resize" a bit screens visually by some programm ?

@TSK
thanks for ideas, i just tryed Salas00 ones and it works as it must for me. What about programms, you can try these music disks which works fine with new ptreplay.library which salas00 done some days ago (replaicement for old one, which worked before over the paula, this one works over the ahi, so any programm which use ptreplay.library can now works fine, when you replace old one or new one + ptplay.library). The list of music disks which you can try:

RedPack4,5,6
Embrion2

The all was 640x256, but now it can be any mode with prefs/screen. Or for example you can try these little prods:

wheelpz info (1,2)
MWI Zosia (1,2,3,4)

It has no music at moment (becouse used some deep hardware players), but it gfx/etc works, and it also was 640x256 on half of screen but works ok with prefs/screen.

@tboeckel

Akways strange to see answers like somethink "impossible". Everythink is possible. About what i think right now:

1. fix the binary. Found the screenmode values in the binary itself, and patch it by hardcore way. Of course solution far from perfect, but why not.

2. Writing a wrapper, which will be as resident /commoditie in the memory, and catch asknowlegment to the 640x256 modes, and when it happenes, change it on the 640x480.

3. If aos4 can handle 640x256 mode, with just redirection of 640x256 to 640x480, then, very possible to do the same, but just redirect to the 640x256 mode, which i have native on P96 screenmode.

And it only about i think (i know nothink about, but it possible already). I just think, that some kind of utility whch can do some of this already present on os4. Becouse on os3, some kind of this utilty was done (can't remember this name).

ps. For example on Morphos, this mode handled correctly. I just choice 640x256 screens, and it shows in full screen, no like on os4 on half of screen.

Anyone ? Any ideas ?
I know that many of you already have this problem (just 50% of screen are used on the 640x480 screen, becouse it's 640x256). How i can 'scale' it ? Let's it be not new mode, but maybe some utility which will scale this 'default' for programms mode ?

68k apps and screen promoute on os4/peg2 questions

Many 68k programms which works on os4.1 opening 640x256 screens very offten. I have setuped 640x256 screens for my Radeon, but looks like these 68k programms just stack in most cases on Fake P96 640x480 mode. And as result i have many of them showing on 1/2 of screen. How can i made it works normally for full screen ? Maybe i need just remove Fakep96 modes, and programms will be "found" for the native ones. Or maybe i need add somehow fake 640x256 mode ? Any ideas and help are welcome :)

@Swisso

Back to the past i was enjoed by Sam&Max, funny colorfull (for PC of these past times) game. I got this game in floppy-disks and play i think on 286/1mb of ram. FullThrottle and 7guest was later (after i got the cd-drive), but enjoy it a lot too. I remember that after 7guest was done game called 11 hours (like second part of 7guest), but for me it was suck :). The other good game, and which i think can be emulated by ScummVm, it's PHANTASMAGORIA (The horror which was solded on 4 or 7 cds). Like it a lot too, some evil scenes bring to my child mind very good :)

@freddix

Maybe i am wrong, but somebody on #amigadev said before that is very buggy. But it was usable (at least you can compile programms with using of it).

@ bean
Btw, how much os4-only specific code tunenet use ? Maybe (why not) you will also in interst to port it to mos/aros ? Or it's fully based on os4.x only API already ?

Tested on my os4.1/peg2. Rendering bug is gone. Also looks like you add new fadeup/fadedown effect when user run/exit tunenet ? Glad to see that you works on it, thanks for one of the important os4 progs :)

@Cobra
I think it's good that developers works only on "core" (no need think about other problems and loose time on it). In end, it generally show as that this rendering engine, the most powerfull and standarts following for today (i remember these acid tests 100/100).

Personally can't said that i am feel myself so bad becouse no download manager for os4 version of owb, but little progress bar, with count of procents will be very good. Becouse you just start to download and do not know how long it will be , when it stops, etc.

Btw, OWB on aros also have download manager. I just think Joerg have many other thinks in "todo" list to implement and becouse of it still nothink about, but download manager (even easy one) are must :) From version to version i wait it, and this is only one think which save ibrowse on my hdd (i just copy download link in owb, run ibrowse, and just use his download manager. Which is good: you can download tons of files at time, you can close ibrowse itself, but download will be still happenes even you close main IB window).

Will be cool if authors of ibrowse (for example) will be just use OWB rendering engine with all these other good thinks like download manager, https, cookies, bookmarks, font selections, etc ,etc.

btw, just in interest: have core developers in plans add download manager ? Or they only works on core, and everythink over the it must be done by other ppls ? Just mean maybe Joerg that wait when it will be done, and becouse of it not want spend time for so necessary fucntions like download manager ?

Need to found users with bvision/os3.9 for some warp3d test.

I need to found some (1-2) users with working bvision/os3.9 setup to make some warp3d related tests on it. Will be very good if you can use irc or icq , becouse with "online" testings everythink will be done shortly.

So, if some of you have some free time for , please write me back here, or pm, or at kas1e@yandex.ru. Thanks.

Re: DosBox on SAM?

@corto
yeah, these apps are good for tests, becouse for first it's use gfx/sound code very much => just possible to detect how optimiation works. Other think, that its done for Protected Mode (if i remember right, boch by using of old "p-mode" extender which was very usable for ppls who want to put it to exe by watcom c, withoout boring with Dos4gw.

I think 'colors' problem are easy to fix (just swap bytes beetween, it's happenes i think becouse protected mode are a bit 'long' by bytes, so becouse of it some differences).

But optimization to make all of this works fast/clear for me looks pretty hard, but, still, i think on 1ghz it can works at full speed (if i remember right, i emjoy by this mags on my old i386 dx2x 66 with 4or 8mb of memory only).
