i use a 1680x1050x32bit resolution on a 22" LCD screen and with composer on i reach also "96 bytes" of memory free..

but this is not only a blender problem but also other games reach that values..

my card is a 9250 with 64mb of memory

Cairo backend is already included in the OS4 version of Gnash. But for the release version i've used AGG that is more precise than Cairo and since Cairo is not HW accelerated is better.
To use cairo instead of AGG, gnash needs only a simply recompilation.
The youtube problem is not related to any backend because in the gnash testsuite there is a file called "easyvideo.swf" that load from disk a file called "media.flv" (any valid flv video) and that is played with 40% of CPU on my A1.
The youtube problem is into the streaming part of gnash but we (me and gnash developers) haven't find it..

..someone put his first impressions about gnash (maybe also the system he is using..)

Blender is really cool even if it block my mouse when i go i a low video memory state (on the A1 with a 9250 and Composer ON)..
Strange that it freeze only the mouse and that the mouse is not an USB mouse..
If i turn off the composer i have no problem

the most advanced renderer is agg. and the problem is not agg but gnash itself. there are some things that must be fixed and enhanced. Flash is also not so fast in its original adobe version. it is normal that you can see youtube video on your new dual core intel laptop.. but you must see the PPC version of the MacMini for example.. it is not so fast..
So don't expect miracles from gnash, but i'm sure it will grow in the future..
now i need only a modern browser that supports NPAPI since i would try to make the plugin

well, it is not so bad and however it depends also from swf used. there are some files that are really big and also "modern" pc are a little bit slow..
I must change the youtube script to made it works again since youtube has changed their pages

i've removed so much things related to original newscoaster that it is impossible to commit changes.. but i've already put the source code here:

Now it is only for os4 because it is hard to find a problem with the actual state of the code and so i've removed many MOS/OS3 part
