IIRC GitHub were going to change to requiring keys instead of passwords (not sure if this has happened but it was definitely coming). Don't know if sgit/libgit2 support SSH, but that's what it needs.

@geennaam Quote: So you can only add and not replace or reimplement?
- Modern workbench replacement which builds upon warp2D and warp3dnova is a no-go
-graphics.library replacement which adds modern 2D capabilities, multi-monitor support and removes the 256MB limit is a no-go
-USB stack replacement which adds USB3 support and isochronous transfer profile for usb audio cards is a no-go.
-ethernet stack replacement with a modern internal stucture which enables DMA assisted transfer speed improvements and an infrastructure for proper Wifi support is a no-go.
-AHI replacement which removes a lot of limitations and adds bitstreaming is a no-go
- General reimplementation of os4 components which simply add SMT/ multicore / co-processor core support (whatever the implementarion and when available) to speed up the system is a no-go
- dos replacement to allow better and multi-core disk handling to unleash the power of NVMe is a no-go
I can't help thinking that at least some of these would be better implemented using the OS library patching system, rather than doing a wholesale replacement of components. Better for compatibility and less work. Anyway, there's no sign of anything this interesting, just some re-implemented commands which - outside the scope of replacing the OS - seem completely pointless.

Yes, same. I guess AmiUpdate used to create it but some bug has been introduced in intervening years.

Quote: I'd expect AmiUpdate to create the file automatically if it isn't there when it needs it. It doesn't. But it should prompt for username/password. There might be something else going on here. @Paul In your AmiUpdate dir, try creating a file called SiteList In it, put the following:
AmigaOSUpdateServer
{username}
{password}
Replace {username} and {password} with the ones you use on hyperion-entertainment.com

@Paul
There's a file called "SiteList" in the AmiUpdate directory. Look in it and check your username and password is correct.
If you delete it it doesn't recreate (not sure if this is a bug), and if the details are wrong it silently fails without prompting (this probably is a bug).

@TSK Quote: Also the old CF card with the 3.1 won't boot anymore. I don't know if it's validating and I don't want to know how long finishing it could take on such an old and slow machine.
I got an impression from the FAQ that one should not mix the 3.1 installation and 3.2 ROM's. It says somewhere (I can't be bothered to read it again myself to see where), that you need to copy the old intuition.library and workbench.library off of one of the disks. I'm not sure why/if the old Intuition is needed, but workbench.library used to be in ROM on the A1200 - so you won't be able to fully boot without adding it to libs:. edit actually, it may be icon.library not intuition.library which is needed on disk.

@TSK
From PE you need to install 3.2.
What you have done, I think, is create a bootable copy of the CD and replaced your boot CF card with this. You don't want to do this. What you need to do is directly read the CD on the A1200, or copy it onto some other media that you can access (even if it is a new partition on the same CF card) - all the while leaving your original boot drive in place. Then you can install 3.2 from there.
I don't know how to manually install it by copying the files; it's probably not a good idea.
If you go back to 3.1 you don't even need to switch the ROMs back (actually I'd advise against it, as you get bugfixes and improvements from the new Kickstart components - in particular the new scsi.device supports >4GB which will likely save some pain in future). See the FAQ.

Yes, I use it. amigaguide.class is something which should be part of the OS.

@abalaban
There are a few things that AmigaGuide is missing, sure (I would argue we definitely do not need background images, and AmigaGuide is fine at layouting with @smartwrap - tables would be nice though). I don't think replacing it with HTML is the right way to go; AmigaGuide has a big advantage that amigaguide.library allows programs to open help files at a contextually useful node. The fact it is a single file is also very convenient.
Any HTML support would have to be basic and would not give much benefit over AmigaGuide. Also it would be a lot of work. Better to give AmigaGuide a few needed enhancements.

That's obviously up to you if you don't want to buy it, but I would definitely say to buy it if you want it. About half an hour into walkero's stream you can hear the justification from the devs for buying it to support them, I'd suggest to listen to that answer at least.

And? If the devs are happy with the situation and are encouraging people to buy it, I don't see a problem.
You are supporting an Amiga dealer too!

According to the devs, the money gets invested back into the OS, and buying it is a show of support and increases the chances development will continue. The devs might not directly see any of the money, but they didn't go into this without knowing that.

So obviously some stuff is backported from OS4, but there are new features there too - will these come to OS4?

I'd argue that CSS is still more important than Javascript. You need CSS first for Javascript layout to function. The majority of websites need CSS to even display correctly. A lot (far less, but increasing as you say) need Javascript for navigation/display/functionality. NetSurf has the CSS, and the Javascript is basic currently - there are thousands of bindings that need to be written, and only a couple of developers working on them. The layout engine needs rewriting too, as the current one isn't dynamic - so dynamic content changes cannot work at the moment. It's slow progress, but web browsers are complicated and NetSurf is written by a handful of people in their spare time - massive difference to Chrome or Firefox. Contributions are welcome.

Did Update 2 contain the newer DejaVu fonts? Some years ago they were renamed, and if config files are looking for the old names that don't exist any more, that would explain this. I've been running with the new fonts for years so no idea if they actually were updated finally with the OS, but this would explain the oddness.

Jerky mouse pointer in NetSurf usually happens when bitmaps are being displayed or scaled or something (not entirely sure what the root cause is but it's graphics related). Setting "cache native versions" to "all" might help.
I've also seen it when graphics mem is very low.

Microdot-II no longer has any menus. I think that's an MUI problem though, I stopped updating MUI ages ago because of an issue which may have been this, can't remember.
