Re: E-UAE Test version and libz
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

@Chris
From pure ignorance (and reading your suggestion) I just did that: making a clone of libz.so named libz.so.1 and - hey - it works! (maybe I will find problems later...). I am wondering why I *seem* to be first one reporting this, as the test version might be used by others before me...

Another question: I am not very familiar with the uae world, but there seem to be some kind of Picasso96 emulation inbuild - but what monitor driver should I use to activate it? I suppose my real 68k-Amigas CV64 and PicassoII won't work apparently...

[EDIT: Answering my own question...]

Ha, of course the CGX drivers won't work with Picasso96 - so I am trying to do the right and use "uaegfx.card" with a proper P96 backbone...

E-UAE Test version and libz
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

I'm trying to get E-UAE running on my sam440ep. While the WIP4 starts (somewhat awkward, but..), I'll get an error from the latest "test" version (20.01.2008):

"libz.so.1 missing"

Where's this shared object? In my SOBJs: is a libz.so without that trailing ".1".
What shall I do?

If you need some beta testers for your compile...an upload to OS4depot would be nice...

Yeah, that sounds good - I would buy a OS4 PPC native version of IB instantly...

@xenic

Yes, pleeeeeease! The SOBJs "version handling" is stone age and for an AmigaOS system inacceptable! I understand that there might be advantages for developers, the .elf subsystem, the porting whatsoever. Isn't there a place in the binary to put a little version into?

@Mikey_C

Yep, I remember Olafs words - I'm glad all my three Amiga setups are able to use smbfs in MY network configuration (with static IPs!). On two of them I have a running Samba, so I can connect from other machines to the Amigas. The only issue here is the impossible connection to the only Vista machine here (my wife's Subnotebook), but hey, nothin's perfect.

And, of course, *the guide* was really helpfull - thanks a lot.

@jabirulo

Indeed I have running a SMTP daemon on my 030 (and now 040) 2000s for quite a long time. Configuration was not THAT straightforward but it worked for some years. It is the "AmigaSMTPd v0.69" and "SMTPpost v.104" by M.B. Smith - it should be one of those packages already mentioned.

@jahc

Interesting, I had no problems yet having more than one share (i.e. a Windows machine and a share on a RiscOS machine etc.) active.

The only problem I have is "slowness" - so I use Envoy for connecting my Amiga systems and use smbfs only if I have to connect to not-Amigas.

@jahc

You need smbfs, it should be in Aminet or OS4Depot, there's a OS4 native version. For more convinience I use Savvy for mounting/dismounting SMB shares.

@dwolfman

The Installer tries to establish a link in the SDK directory to the original Cairo SOBJs in the systems SOBJs: assign, but these are NOT part of OS4.0! Or am I wrong? I think this SOBJs where introduced with OS4.1.

Me, too. I am really dedicated to ARexx - it's so transparent and easy to use. Maybe someday it's possible to use Phython as the scripting language with some kind of wrapper for all those applications with a ARexx port...

After switching off compositing for the DoPUS screen (via "Screen" preferences) it works like a charm and very reliable.

OS4.x/sam440ep and BetaScan/SCANdal
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

Today I learned that there is a (new) version of SCANdal at OS4depot which uses the well know BetaScan/SANE driver for scanners.
While I where never able to get my SCSI Mustek scanner to work with BetaScan on my classic Amiga I am wondering if someone already where successful on a sam440 (or any other non-classical OS4.x machine) and "modern" USB scanners...

Any hints?

@ChrisH

You're absolutley right: SimpleMail is really nice program. But - like me - most users (I know) already use YAM and are somewhat withdrawn from playing around with a new e-mail software (call it "behavioural gravitation" ).
Futhermore there's Claws-Mail (i.e.) for AmiCygnix and so on...

@Slayer

I really liked the idea of Greg Donners (semi-)official OS3.5 and OS3.9 FAQs - this were at least for me a very valuable source of tips, workarounds and clarifications. For OS4.1 you really have to search through different forum threads to solve or adress some ... errm ... specials (i.e. the default muted AHI settings for example).

How do i switch to the debug kernel? Altering the (for me) mysterious Kickstart layout or renaming the kernel files in sys:kickstart?

@Dwyloc @All

I suspect some sort of USB related problem with the latest quickfix, too!

I expirience the so-called "vertical copper effect-freeze" and the "red-lines-in-WB-window" effects on my sam no-flex. After doing some voodoo with my mouse and keyboard(s), i.e. changing the USB ports etc. pp. I can provoke the problems almost for 100% - sadly not in all circumstances immidiatly. The system runs stable when you not use mouse or keyboard - which is nice to know, but not really practical (errrm...isn't there a thread about voice recognition?).
