@salass00

Yep - with wb.library's functions it *should* be at least possible to implement a drag *onto* the Workbench windows...
Application support is - of course - another story...

@orgin

Excellent! This is a big step forward, thank you very much - I'll try this version when I'm back to my SAM this evening.

@trixie

Thanks for your remarks - I'm still in the process of configuring my PGS4 enviroment. After that I'll give the PPC-Version - which is already residing in my download folder - a try.

Re: considering Pagestream

Aaaaaaalright then.

I installed PGS 4.1.5.6 (68k) on my SAM. The installation were done manually, 'cos the installer script searches for bullet outline stuff that isn't present on OS4.1. No problem here.

Doing some initial setup work I found it quite annoying that - despite the screen font is set to Deja Vu something - most dialogs are still with the famous topaz.8 font. Is there anything I can do about this? Or is there a hidden option?

Next one is PageLiner: This always shows a grim when quitted. With or without JIT - lost software then?

@MichaelMerkel

BTW: The buttons are not very stylish (and very tiny) here in 4.1.5.6 - are there alternatives?

EDIT: BTW

Re: considering Pagestream

So, to come to some kind of conclusion:

Which version of Pagestream should I use to work more or less productive on a OS4.1 SAM?

- 4.x 68k (= 4.1.5.6)
- 4.x PPC (= 4.1.8.3 beta)
- 5.x 68k (= 5.0.3.3 beta)
- 5.x PPC (= 5.0.3.3 beta)

Can someone give a hint???

Re: Gnash first impressions

There seems to be a new build of Gnash online (28-11-2009 - New version of Gnash Player).
Works - of course slow with youtube videos on a SAM. BTW the youtube.py script doesn't seem to work anymore. I substituted the 'swfArgs' in the script with 'SWF_ARGS' - now it works again.

Thank you, afxgroup, for this new release!

There will be a new shell for OS4.1 with tabbed GUI AFAIK - not sure wether it will make it to the next OS4.1.1 update or not.

@kas1e
PuTTY SSH would be great!

Yes it is. You can configure this in SYS:Prefs/GUI (OS4.1).

Re: Final release of OS4.1- upgrade or fresh install?

@Rigo

A new fresh install of an AmigaOS-Update is new to me. I never ever did this before, all updates before (2.1 -> 3.1 -> 3.5 -> 3.9) I did over the old install - sometimes with this or that manually. It worked mostly right out of the box. Of course all my OS installations are rather clean and not much "reworked".

So I will try to make a bootable CD image of my current OS4.1 setup - just in case...

The HP CP1514N works here, with lpr.device or netprinter.device, with LaserJet driver or Postscript. I use the Postscript driver.

Re: TCP/IP Printer on Sam440 ?

Anyone with with experience with netprinter.device and HP Lasers here?

I did it. Yes, I went to Aldi ... and now HP Color LaserJet CP1514n is connected to my local LAN. While Windows printing is no problem, my SAM (or: OS4.1) is not without flaws.

- Workbench Postscript driver and netprinter.device works here - but I were not able to get the paper margins right - how can I do that?
- Printing from AmiPDF through the Workbench driver (somewhat strange, I know...) works, but I had occasional crashes/grims of netprinter.device with some PDFs (i.e. the front page of the Phython.doc from documentation - maybe a stack problem?). Did someone else see something similar?
- Printing with a LaserJet driver works as well (changing netprinter from "direct" to "LPR"), but here the paper margins are also not right and I were not able to print in color - even with DeskJet_CMYK, as suggested in the docs. Did someone manage to use a PCLx color print?

Re: Firefox coming to OS4.1 !!!

Is it only me, or ...? I am totally overwhelmed by the reactions to this announcement. Two brothers do a port of some software in their spare time - and the forums seem to explode. Panic, hysterical reactions, hatred, everything someone can imagine. Wow.

I did not have that extreme close-up look to the "community" until last year, 'cos I used my OS3.9 setups and where not interested in Amiga NG stuff, be it MorphOS or AmigaOS 4.x. I was not interested in UAE stuff. I was not interested in AROS stuff. Only my two OS3.9 Amigas. I'm a littlebit autistic in these topics

Now I own a SAM and OS4.1, NOW I'm interested in OS4-related stuff and tried to learn a littlebit about the history since the last OS update (3.9). A I learned about the whole struggle between ... o.k., I won't repeat it here. But in the end of the day a lot of things are YEARS behind us! And STILL there's so much emotion in the forums. Incredible (for me, at least).

(P.S.: I'm still not interested in AROS. And still not interested in UAE. And I loose interest in my OS3.9 setups. I can't concentrate on too much things parallel... )

(P.S.II:
@Rogue: I hope you and your brother have a positive kind of autism - to go on with your work!)

There are known easter eggs in OS3.x (all versions) and I read about such in MorphOS. Are there any known easter eggs in OS4.1?
