What's more important if using only a few KB more for the SFS buffers makes it 10 or even 100 times faster?
10% cache misses is a lot, if you get more than 1% cache misses (after using the partition as usual for some time, don't check it for example directly after (re)booting) SFS is already much slower than it could be.

On classic Amigas with only a few MB RAM using enough buffers may not be possible, but on the AmigaOne, or a CSPPC with 128 MB or a BPPC with 256 MB RAM, it's not, you usually only need a few KB more RAM for the buffers of each SFS partition to get much faster speeds, not several MB.

Understood, though you don't say what would be a good
buffers setting for, lets say
256 MB
500 MB
1 GB
5 GB
10 GB
25 GB
70 GB

partitions...(that being my partition sizes)

Check my extra info, i try to port stuff, thus needing every
byte of RAM i can get (until VMEM pops up )

we will lose even more (maybe we are lucky and come in 4th)

I stopped using my machines for this effort, it's just ...
i don't know, seeing no real use for it

If there were other projects (medicine and health wise) i'd
rethink in joining (i.e. Folding@Home)

@Jack

Doesn't do anthing here either, reports that it will need
80 minutes to finish, but immediately stops afterwards

For me it told the right time when it finishes, but never
started to perform that test...

This may sound silly, but do you have the boxes plugged in
into the right outlet? (Green, iirc)

Do you even HAVE boxes installed?

Uhm, why?

It works, even with 99% cache misses it would work, it would
just have to access the drive more often...

@GrumpyOldMan

err...my finnish is a little rusty (since when could i speak
it anyway?)

So, Paikalliss?? means something like cities(?)

OK, the left based link doesn't work (but that maybe because
it explicitely wants to open a new window - which won't work -
older versions of OWB crashed then, this has been workaround
by simply ignoring the link), but the right bottom based
works

Double click into the field, cursor down and up to choose the
city and press RETURN ... works here

I can live with 10% cache misses on the upside of having

400 dosbuffers with a 25 GB partition? your using SFS at 40% of its potential!!

try a SFSQuery and look at how many caches missed you get.

libdl.so has the .so part in its name, whereas every other
file has not - intended?

Would it be possible to add the file sizes as one cannot
judge the latest version by the given dates - at least not me?

@daxb

up it at least to 300
i may be wrong but remember reading somewhere it's the
least amount of buffers when you use SFS partitions.

I have a 25GB partition here using it with 400 buffers and
never ever had problems with it

...although, i may probably be wrong ... waitign for joerg to pop in

I'd like to ask for a feature

Would it be possible to have the page count on threads on
the front page (for now it's only visible if one goes into
the "Posts" sublink.

It's more user friendly to not have to go to a threads first
page first and then click on say page 6 to reach the latest
posts...

...and yes, i know i could change my settings to "Newest
first" but i don't want to

Good idea?
