the games work fine here just a problem with the save game.. i am not able to save the game..

for multiple installation, the best way is to create a directory per game with the GemRB installed replacing the GemRB's icon with the game icon

Which games have you tested?

I have already done the same, just as you described it, but IMHO, we need a good frontend to choose games., so as to have all the data needed on the same repository.

Having multiple games reside on the same folders didn't work for me so far although I tried some options and help I found on the web.

On other news, Icewind Dale II does not work since I have a chitin.key error. Tried to figure out what this means without any success.

Btw, Planetscape Torment hasn't any "full" installation option in Windows. This means that you have to copy the entire folder from every cd.

On windows, you have to modify the .ini as well. Is that necessary for GemRB as well?

@kas1e

Hmm it seems just free.

Tremoulous is open sourced http://tremulous.net/screenshots/

0ad looks promising although it is on alpha stage http://wildfiregames.com/0ad/

What about this game also http://www.scorched3d.co.uk/

Or an good Arcanoid clone http://lgames.sourceforge.net/index.php?project=LBreakout2

Or Frozen Bubble http://www.frozen-bubble.org/downloads/

Free Orion is a good candidate too http://www.freeorion.org/index.php/Screenshots

Alien Arena rulezz also http://icculus.org/alienarena/rpa/aquire.html

Vega Strike is the best free/open source space sim http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/

Unknown Horizons is an open source Anno clone (RTS) http://www.unknown-horizons.org/

Steel storm is an intensive top-down shoot'em up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fAVk05OyGQ , http://www.steel-storm.com/content/?page_id=6

Anyway, I have most of the open source in my game's collection. 9/10 are crap some are good. I believe that the above list should cover many genres. If they are portable I don't know.

What about, Shank, Dirt 3, Black Ops, Mafia II, James Bond 007: Blood Stone, Lost Planet 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, just to name a few, lol.

Seriously, until we have the adequate raw power and the technological standards, porting good games is a no - go. Even indie games or games from small companies, require all the things we miss: All games from Amanita Design http://www.amanita-design.net/ , are awesome, Shank can blow your mind as one of the best beat 'em up, Trine, new Alien Breed series, Danger Balls, World of Goo.

Anyhow, here is a very simple and new platform game shoot 'em up I finished recently: Cave Story, Trailer -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cr0CCkH49g0 and here is the free download for various platforms -> http://www.cavestory.org/downloads_1.php

edit: If someone is up to the task here is an eyecandy platform , EmberWind trailer -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nesHR6EFn0&feature=related and site http://www.timetrap.se/emberwind/

Re: Some BG2 screenshots

@afxgroup

From my understanding, I cannot find they way to edit the gemrb.cfg to install more than one game, so I have to duplicate the entire folder, edit the .cfg and install a new game.

(I tried also to duplicate the cfg only and rename it to the exact game that corresponds e.g icewind dale.cfg and icewind dale II.cfg but it always looks for gemrb.cfg only..)

Moreover, I looked to the icewind dale.ini and couldn't find the option to play at fullscreen mode. Can you help me on this?

Now, I will be testing Icewind Dale 2.

edit: Will a "Fullscreen=1", without the quotes, work, if implemented to the .ini?

edit 2: OK, it worked!

Check Freespace 2 Open with add-ons. Don't know if the Amiga version supports it but it takes the game to a whole new level.. Anyway, my money to Freelancer until now as the overal best modern space sim. X3 is nice too.

@afxgroup

Can you please provide me with an example cfg of several games installed? (e.g Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale 1 and 2).

Moreover, how do you switch to full screen?

I have installed Incewind Dale (the first on) on my SamEp667Mhz. Game speed is for sure not 100% emulated but I need to test it more...

IMPORTANT EDIT: Tried your suggestion for >nill and this is it! Now 100% speed, like the original. I strongly suggest you to implement this on the readme file!

@kas1e

And I play Quake 2 regulary since I am in the Greek national CTF team. I fully understand what you mean when having fun with a game, you actually get hooked. But the porter should either better focus on good indie games (e.g World of Goo comes to my mind first) or to office apps (if he is skilled enough) since games (and especially FPS) require technoligical standards that Amiga platform cannot provide for the time being. When/if, we have better hardware and better drivers etc then, why not?

@carvedeye

When starting a port, I would suggest the porter to take into account some options:

How many times, will the average gamer have finish the game already? If > 100 times, don't do it.

Will the port support the x,yz, add-ons (official / fan made mods) in order to expand its lifecycle? If no, don't do it.

Will the performance of the game offer a unique experience over other platform? If no, step to next question.

Will at least offer the same performance of the game in other platforms? If no, don't do it.

Mate, honestly, since you are into the gaming scene (like I am my entire life :P), why use degrading comments for the PC platform? First of all, the particular game (Aquaria) isn't any mass marketed game, the genre is full of amigish spirit, and the studio.. well I think it is a two men show actually.

Why calling "peecee", when we actually are playing only PC ported games (Quake, Quake II, Quake III, Freespace I & II, Doom, Hexen, Hexen II, Bioware's RPGs lately, Gish, Jagged Alliance 2, Cube I & II, OpenBOR just to mention a few, or some crappy freeware sdl linux shitty games or Wipeout, Shogo, Myst, Nightlong in the past)? Not to mention that the majority of "modern" commercial games ported are already dated 15-8 years ago (!) and we are still struggling to make them work on our "uber NG and expensive systems" of Amiga platform? How would that sound to any average "peecee" user when he will be playing in the meantime CoD Black Ops?

Edit: And I 've even forgot to mention that for some games to be installed you might have first to perform setup on the PC. Now, why would anyone like to copy the data files to an Amiga NG system so as to have lower fps rate, lower resolution, lower graphical quality options, and in the end less fun instead of pressing the damn .exe on Windows, is far beyond my understanding. Apart from the geek factor; I can make this game work on Amiga platform, there isn't anything else on OS4.x gaming scene.

@Fab

Yeap, almost my thoughts too. I find the benchmark's result extremely poor given the setups. And as kas1e said, someone, should take the same test and post the results of a linux box, along with specs, for some of the games already mentioned. I find it hard to believe that my old Athlon@1Ghz oc at 1.13Ghz, Asus mobo, 512MB 133Mhz Ram, GF3 Ti200 128MB oc as Ti500, IDE HD Hitachi 320GB, WinXp Prof SP3 is faster or almost equal to a modern Intel Core i3 530 CPU @ 3.32GHz, ECS H55H-M mobo, 2GB DDR3, 64GB OCZ Vertex SSD, with an ATI Radeon X1950PRO (RV570) running latest Ubuntu (perhaps Compiz enabled does effect the outcome? I dunno). Hell, even the ThinkPad T60 notebook should crush my old setup.

@kas1e

Are the benchmarks valid? Because, if so, I thought that Gallium was somewhat.. better, performance wise. I haven't any Linux box to check it out but some games at 1280x1024 (the standard nowadays, if not 1680x1050 and up) look just .. playable. And we are not talking for CoD BlackOps or something remotely equal to it. OA and Smoking Guns are free, kinda of primitive, fps genre games. I had nearly the same fps rate in my old PC, ten years ago. OTOH, I suppose, it should enable us at least to play some good games that right now, are not even playable (super tuxkart). And having something, is better than having none.

@ChrisH

Well, this is where I had downloaded the latest pack of AISS but the installer gave me the error I posted. It appeared that the lines you wrote were not written in the startup-sequence. I copied - pasted them and now it works. I will install tomorrow runinuae for once more and make some tests based on your suggestions. I will revert with my findings. Thank you so much for helping me :)

@ChrisH

OK then. I will try your tricks and hope for the best, In the meantime I face a new small problem. I downloaded and installed diskimage. After a reboot I tried to run diskimagegui but I got a request to insert volume "tbimage:" (AmigaDOS Process request). I chose cancel but doesn't work. It keeps requesting the same thing. I soft rebooted and I thought that perhaps it has somethng to do wth AISS because now OWB shows me only the buttons (back, forth, reload, bookand as words not the images anymore). So, I downloaded AISS latest pack, tried to install it and again I got the same AmigaDOS request. Any idea ?

Is this avi preview so important ? Would it be better if it displayed the cover picture instead ?

Hello

I first encountered dual listing with DOpus. It "cuts" the screen horizontally or vertically allowing you to browse on two or more locations of your HDs. Moreover, in the last incarnation of DOpus for Windows, that I am using, you have tabbed dual listing. That means that you have access in several locations one click away. With a high resolution, I have more than 10 pin pointed locations 1 sec away, without messing with my desktop.

I believe it helps organize browsing and save time when have to deal with much data.

Image that you have 8 partitions or 8 drawers with 3 genres of music, 2 drawers with games (native and whdload), 1 drawer with movies, another with home video files, your images/photos splitted in 2 locations, and any other data that you may use. If you try to access them you will have a wb messed with several Filers. But if you had tabbed dual listing, almost any location would be a click away, fully organized.

Please note also, that many avi files, start with a blank (black) frame. The cover would be equally black as well.

@ChrisH

ΟΚ, thanks! I will follow your instructions as soon as I get back home from work.

I will give another chance for AmigaSYS3 to make it work. My first thought that I could just drag the HDF to RuninUAE and boot it.

As soon as I have that ready, I will start tweaking e-uae configs in order to improve performance.

What are your thoughts about it?

Re: Weird Runinuae Prob

OK, it worked!!! I am replying via OWB. Thanks a lot!

Three notes:

1) When I booted, an ASL appeared requesting to mount some units (the ones used by diskimage). I choose cancel and now I am back in my OS4.x WB.

2) I cannot find anymore uae-rcli even in my trashcan. From where I should copy it? (also, what does it do, I though it is for uae something only?)

3) Diskimage is still in my DH0:System drawer but it is NOT in wbstartup, wtf?!

Now, what I should do?

Btw, from first thought I see that only AISS is disabled in Basic Mode. Everything else works! That is a cool way to by pass the system normal boot procedure, didn't knew that! Is there a hotkey for Basic Mode ON, something like "safe mode" in Windows? It would be awesome, if that could be implemented in next AOS editions, imho, for noobs like me :)

Re: Weird Runinuae Prob

@ChrisH

OK, I will check it. My OS4.x System partition is SFS/00, perhaps the command will do the trick.

Btw, my initial goal was and still is to make a previously working on the pc, AmigaSYS3 HDF (or 4 afterwards), work out-of-the-box under runinuae as well.
Has anyone achieve it?
I believe that theoretically it should work since I have the valid OS3.x environment working under winUAE.
However, the initial attempt was a failure.
I also tried to rename the mounted HDF from System to OS3.x but the partition couldn't be renamed and remained System for an unknown reason to me.

Re: Weird Runinuae Prob

@ChrisH

I am absolutely sure that I choose AmigaSYS3 HDF as my OS3.x partition.

Perhaps the problem was/is caused because both Partitions (OS4.x and OS3.x) have the exact same name (System)?

Can anybody confirm this?

* Note that, after initial mount of the HDF, and without having run runiuae yet, Amidock was behaving inappropriate after first reboot where diskimage mounted automatically the AmigaSYS3 HDF System Partition. *

Moreover, I have deleted StartUp-Sequence_DisabledForBasicMode and uae_rcli because I thought they were added by Runinuae.

Is it possible to copy any of the above from the AOS CD?
