@Gregor Quote: Is it possible to use the multimedia keys (Volume down and up) of a 110-key keyboard for volume control with MPlayer? As Joerg stated, Non VANILLA or RAWKEYS can't be mapped, but you can use AllKeys from OS4Depot to assign the media keys on keyboards. I have my multimedia volume keys mapped to control the volume level of both Nemosound and Mixer, (sometimes I switch between the two) so that they control the volume for all programs, including Mplayer. Link to AllKeysAllKeys was written by Daniel Westerberg and works great. I have all my multimedia keys assigned with it.

@mplayer pause
I did some testing on this today and I saw the same problem. In full screen space bar or p will not pause the video.
It happens when using the -vo comp, comp_yuv and comp_yuv2 drivers. -vo sdl and gl video drivers work fine.
This is with version: MPlayer 1.5-rc2 (12/27/2023) SVN-r38440-snapshot-11.3.0
Note that this version does not have this problem: MPlayer 1.5 (08/30/2023) SVN-r38423-snapshot

Thanks for all the inputs. I wrote a script to be able to easily change between RadeonHD.chip v3.7 and 5.14. It also enables and disables the "VA/RadeonHD_drv_video.library". I did this to make it easy to switch back and forth to aid in troubleshooting the v5.14 instablility problems I had experienced in the past.
So, I've been running v5.14 and I haven't experienced any instability issues this time. I must of disabled what ever was causing the issue sometime in the past.
Now, I have to decide if I want to upgrade to use the RX560 card. After looking into it closer,. I have concerns about losing the ability to access the boot menu. I do have an emergency system partition setup to be able to boot from if something goes wrong with my main partition. I also have a boot system that is setup with a vanilla, unchanged, version of AmigaOS4 Final Update2 for troubleshooting software issues. Not sure I want to lose that capability.
I know I could setup a serial cable and control booting from that, but I don't really have anything setup with a terminal to run it too. I suppose I could use my laptop or maby my android tablet or phone, with some kind of adapter, but I have no idea what that process looks like. Is there a video somewhere that shows someone booting over a serial port setup? What cable and adapter would I need?

@AmigaSociety
Hi TJ. Enjoying watching your experiences with your X5000. Seeing MorphOS in action on it is intresting. I've read all the good thing about the Wayfair browser and it was intresting to see it in action. Seems it does have a site compatability advantage over Odyssey, but boy is it slow. Maybe you'll discover ways to speed it up. Anyway, it's intresting to see it. Thanks.

@all
Thanks for the feedback. Since others don't seem to have stability problems with Radeon.chip v5 on their X1000's, I'm thinking I should probably see if I can identify the cause for that first.
I suspect maybe it's a setting I'm using GUI Preferences. Maybe in the, Options, Effects or Controls sections.
I did try changing the INTERUPTS setting in the monitor icon file but still incurred the crashes. My BOARDNAME tooltype is set to Radeon RV730. I assume that 's correct for an ATI RadeonHD 7750 graphics card?
I don't use Candy or the screen blankers, so I can eliminate those as the cause. I do run LimpidClock. Has anyone seen issue with that program? Guess I could start by eliminating all things in Workbench Startup.
Any other ideas on what might be causing the instability?

Upgrade X1000 to RX560 or not?

All, I have an RX560 graphics card that I'm bought to upgrade my X1000 which is currently running an HD7750. I know I'll need to change something on the motherboard and that I'll loose soft reboot, which might be OK, but I'm concerned about doing so, because when I use version 5.14 of the RadeonHD.chip driver I experience instability of my system with random crashes.For that reason I've gone back to useing version 3.7, which is very solid.
So, I'd like to hear from other X1000 owners who have upgraded to the RadeoRX.chip and are using an RX card in your machine.
Is your machine stable? Can you play 1080p and higher resolution videos without problems? Which player do you tend to use, Emotion or DVPlayer? I know MPlayer won't get any speed up, but does it adversly affect MPlayer in any way?
Any ohter issues I should be concerned about if I decide to upgrade?
Thanks in advance for any inputs. I'd really like to hear from X1000 owners specifically about your experiences.

@smarkusg Quote: I don't use YT or aiostreams so I wasn't able to check it. Versions were given but there were so many that maybe something was missed.I also have multiple versions of Mplayer and a new branch of FFmpeg 6.1. Actually, I did test this when I was testing MPlayer_v1.5_rc2. The same version the link you just gave points to. This version does not have the Amissl crash and works fine. However, I did verify that, indeed, the OS4Depot released version crashes here for me as well. Both the altivec and non-altivec version. Also, I went back and checked the Altivec rc1 version I tested and it crashes when streaming with YouTube as well. Hopefully this info will help you find the problem. What ever is different from the RC2 version seems to be the cause of the issue. Just as a bit more information. I tried it with both the latest released Amissl and the release before it. It crashes with both versions, so I don't believe it's an Amissl problem. This is on an X1000.

@MickJT Quote: -nofontconfig is a runtime option, which can be used if mplayer is compiled with fontconfig support. Yes, your right. I've been helping to test RC1 and it crashes with -ass option. I received an RC2 and it the -ass and -nofontconfig options. It crashes when seeking playing titles with the -ass option. I've reported it. It's getting better.

@MickJT Quote: If I remember right, that's a message from libfontconfig written to stderr. It should go away if it finds a valid fonts.conf While I have your attention. I noticed that if I use the -nofontconfig option with your version of MPlayer I get the following and the video doesn't play: Appdir:Mplayer -nofontconfig video.mp4 MPlayer was compiled without fontconfig support. MickJT-MPlayer-1.0.1 1.3.0 (C) 2000-2016 MPlayer Team The beta version that Maijestro is using does not output this messagea and just plays the video when using the -nofontconfig option. This leads me to beleive you didn't compile with he fontconfig support. Note the only the beta version outputs the "Fontconfig error" message with YT not MickJT's version. Any thoughts?

@Maijestro Quote: I also noticed something with YT.rexx when playing YouTube streams via Odyssey. There is always a small window with the error message "Fontconfig error" but the YouTube stream is playing. Maybe someone knows what is causing the problem? This is not a YT problem. It's a problem with the version of MPlayer you are using. Please report it to the developers.

@Maijestro Quote: I think I caused the playback problem myself because I used different versions of MPlayer and SimpleSup always wanted to access the wrong version In your screenshot it looks like you are using a beta version of Mplayer (path in title bar). That version is known to have issues. Email me with the version of Mplayer you are using and we can discuss further. As mentioned in the Simplesub docs, it requires the mickjt of liveforit version of Mplayer. Confirmed a beta version, which is known to not work right with the ass subtitles is the issue. Sent a beta version and some suggestions which should help. Note that the VPLAYER tooltype can be set to specify a specific version of MPlayer to be used with SimpleSub.

@kas1e Quote: yes, but from binary, you also can hit "ctrl+c" to exit from.. Just tried this for the first time and it's growing on me. I like the concept but don't always want my devices to open in filer and "ctrl_c" does work to disable it if you start it from your "User_Startup". Then I discovered this workaround which means I don't have to quit wb2filer not to use it. I added this line to my User_Startup to start it running when I boot. run >NIL: Work:Utilities/wb2filer_03/wb2filer Work:Utilities/filer/filer Then I discovered the following workaround to open the volume without running filer.. 1. Place the mouse pointer over a volume icon. 2. Press and hold the right mouse buttom to bring up the volume menu. 3. Move the mouse pointer so it is selecting the open item from the menu but is not over the icon. 4. Release the right mouse button while the mouse pointer is not over the icon and the volume window opens without using filer. This makes it easy to use filer or not without having to stop the wb2filer program. The display beep and flashing is a bit annoying though. I don' t want to disable it in my preferences though because I use it for other things.

@Maijestro Quote: Unfortunately I couldn't use and test your SimpleSub. I also have the problem that the output via comp doesn't work. The comp output normally works with MPlayer. I think comp_yuv is 3D accelerated and can't work under Qemu/AmigaOs4.1. Hmm....seems like the people having issues are using Qemu. Not sure why that would be the case. Check your "vo" setting in the Mplayer config file which is located in the "conf" directory that should be in your Mplayer directory. Verify that is as an entry like this: "vo=comp" with no # sign at the start of the line. I'd be happy to send you the beta version. Just email me a request at the email address found under the "Author" section in the "SimpleSub.guide" file. That helps me keep track of who has a beta version.

@smarkusg @smarkusg Quote: Sorry my mistake - but maybe it will be a lesson to others. No problem. I took a minute and added an MP_VIDEO_OUTPUT tooltype to SimpleSub so the user can specify the video driver for MPlayer. (ie. MP_VIDEO_OUTPUT = -vo comp_yuv) If anyone would like to try this addition, just email me and I'll send you a beta version to try.

@smarkusg Quote: The lack of a specific video output may be the problem. You would have to add a video output when calling mplayer - may be "-vo comp". Mplayer uses a configuration file in its home directory. It can't select it - it chooses the first one in the list. I suspect your right about the video driver not being the right one but MPlayer should either default to a driver that works or use the one specified in it's config file. I have the following options in my config file: # for newer systems and graphics cards vo=comp_yuv2 # fastest but will slow down a little when OSD is used. # vo=comp_yuv # fast and will not slow down when OSD is used. # vo=comp # vo=sdl # uses SDL library for playback. (platform independent) # vo=gl # uses OpenGL video output driver. # for older systems and graphics cards # vo=comp::rgb # vo=comp::argb # vo=cgx_wpa # vo=p96_pip I tried all the ones for the newer system on my X1000 with a Radeon HD card and they work. Can't try the drivers for the older systems on my system. Are you saying that MPlayer running under QEMU doesn't use the config file properly? Or are you saying you need to pick a driver that is different than the above listed ones? Also, I'm not sure why PlayOutput works for VooDoo but Preview doesn't. In VideoClipper I added an "MP_Video_Output" Tooltype so the user can specify which driver to use with MPlayer. I could do the same with SImpleSub. I'd rather not add the selection to the GUI because I'm hoping when a new version of Emotion comes out I can support it as a player as well. Could you try VideoClipper with the tool type set to what you need for your system and let me know if that works for you?
