Re: Rumours say X1000 still lacks BOOTING of AmigaOS 4.1..

@JeffShepherd

Absolutly! Mandatory! Will it have the extra commands for my Microdrives? and the additional 128k and InterfaceI/II commands working? I expect a XMOS based Microdrive and Kempston interface!

Re: SMBMounter

@Daedalus

While posting in ChrisH's thread I remembered your SMBMounter, which I installed last week - very nice, indeed. So SavvyPPC goes to bed now, SMBMounter is my new software to manage my SMB mounts on my OS4.1 system now! Thank you very much!

On my OS3.9/68k machines I still use the SLH stuff ("Samba's Little Helper"), 'cos it scans the local workgroup and generates a listview with possible mounts. It utilises a local installation of smbclient to get this list. Maybe you could - as a add-on feature - do the same in SMBMounter?

@ChrisH

This sounds very interesting - up to now I mostly use Photoalbum (http://home.arcor.de/helmuthoffmann/photoalbum/index_de.html ) or sometimes Holger Papajewskis Picview. But with a native OS4 software with some nice new ideas this will probably change...

@Helgis

If you want to do real professional CAD work regarding house and building layout, then there is this:

http://aminet.net/package/gfx/3d/Cycas178_EN

It was commercial and is free now. It works like a charm on AmigaOS 4.1u1.

@acefnq

Not automatically (at least not here). If you had already a (empty) Workbench partition and did no new layout for your harddisks chances are good, that there's still the "old" slb_v2 on that partition. I installed the new slb_v2 manually after installation of Update 1.

"AmigaOS4's printer System do no have a PCL driver, only plain and PostScript.
AmiPDF has its own PCL driver build in, so that is able to send PCL data.
"

Hurgh? No PCL? I use the LaserJet driver and netprinter.device here - what does the Laserjet/Deskjet driver do? Not PCL? If it's not PCL, why does my LaserJet understand the data and print them? (I mean not only plain text, but full graphics stuff).

Very confusing...

@TheDaddy

Perfect. If you and your partners are able to

- produce a german keyboard layout,
- introduce the two "A" keys,
- make a "Help" instead of "??? (scroll lock)" key

and make the logo

- "nothing" and

and make a black keyboard..

...then count me as a customer!

Yep, I use AddMenu.rexx and CubicIDE - which are both (Cubic/ARexx) are not really *native* I suppose...
BTW I modified that script to incorporate the famous "DEL Key in Workbench" item...

I have also dicovered that when I print from an Amicygnix program I can print using generic postscript and lpr.device. I just wish I understood why I can't use lpr.device in non-Amicygnix environment and why Multiview is only way I can print a text file with Turboprint.

This is not quite true or at least not clear - of course you can use the lpr.device from every program, I'll do this all day - I have a PostScript/PCL5 network printer attached and all runs smooth.

@retro

Oh, I suppose there is still plenty of usable 68k Mac software floating around - I have some nice stuff here that I used with Shapeshifter and Fusion. It would be nice (no, it IS nice) to have "MS Word for Macintosh" here to open my old documents. Some time ago I migrated my old Shapeshifter/Fusion installation to the current BasiliskII - it ran instantly out of the box! Excellent!

Re: Wordworth and OS4.1 update 1

@ChrisH

My system here behaves like:

- Native PPC software that opens it's own screen is started with the "Default" screen definition in "Screens" (here: 32 Bit, 1280/1024, compositing enabled).

- Emulated 68k software that opens it's own screen is started with that mentioned OS3.x look, compositing disabled (but same 1280/1024/32 Bit ... usually ...).

This different behaviour seems to be standard on my SAM/OS4.1 since first day - I did not define this special differential screen management for native and legacy apps...maybe there's a tiny checkmark somewhere in our "prefs landscape" that leads to this???

Re: Wordworth and OS4.1 update 1

@ChrisH

Hm. The Default setting is enabled here, I did not change anything - it's vanilla from OS4.1 Update 1. I have Wordworth running here since 1 year now - and I can't remember anything magical I might have done to do so (I mean without an entry in "Screens".) BTW I migrated - just as you did - my old WWPrefs file - which worked ok despite it couldn't find the screenmode (of course - no 68k CyberGrafX, no Cybervision3D) and opened on Workbench. Then - as I mentioned - I choose a new screenmode for it, that's it. I had to change it again after Update 1, 'cos the screenmode ids were different afterwards. Changed it, done.
