booting from ext USB HD ?

Not too shy to talk

Hi all,
just got myself a lacie 80Go external 2.5" HDfor backup.
as default, it was immediately recongnized and a few seconds later, I was able to open the sole FAT partition !

now I installed the SLB, create a partition in SFS (bootable + automount), quick format with sfsformat, copy clone my SYS: and now I am trying to test the boot from USB disk option in Uboot.

unfortunately, it does not boot
both the HD and SLB are found but Uboot does not find a valid boot device
I tried the front and the rear USB ports but it still does not boot.

someone successfull regarding this matter ?

@abalaban

I have a LITE-ON - DVDRW SHM-165P6S on my amigaone and it is working fine with amidvd and fryinpan, but it is quite noisy.

I would avoid samsung writemaster dvd-rw because they are extremely noisy (I have one in my A1200T).

Hi all,
I am using latest transmissioncli 0.7.2 from shell trying to download a linux distro (Mandriva 2008.1), DVD version on a SFS/2 partition (because the iso is greater 4Gb).
I am now around 47% and I keep getting :

and then the program just return to the prompt.
whats wrong ?

EDIT: got this one now (after keeping retrying) :

@pseudaxos

running Freespace with OS4 exe and warposemu installed (never tried it before).
the only grief is that the external mov player (moovid) does not work as explained in the os4 exe readme, with the options moovid NOGUI AHI AUTOPLAY (I did not try mplayer though !)

freespace is also working here (A1G4/512Mo/Radeon7500) but it seems the highest resolution is 640x480 and even with all details (in software mode of course), it is fast !

BTW freespace CD contains heretic II demo...

you were right about the bad cable : I recently made some changes in my configuration (move HD and DVD) and only after this change I got this error !

Now with another cable, problem seems to be gone -> thanks !

I urge everyone getting the same error to test with another cable...

not an usb device but a ide zip which I remove from my tower but forgot to remove the driver from DOSdrivers too !

nevertheless it is not a very informative error message, not exactly telling what is faulty !!!

[SOLVED] whats this error ??
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hi all,
I am getting this error but I dont know whats trigger this (SFS, FFS, others ??) and which device/partition is at fault...
each time I boot, I get the following window:

(window label : "Disk_Warning!")

Volume exceeds end of disk!
Data loss may occur!

and a "OK" button. I press OK and nothing more happens...

[SOLVED] general device failure
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hi All,
I am using latest SFS (1.279) on my A1 and I am getting error messages like this one regularly now, when downloading 30Mo of zip archives :

"Volume 'Docs' (Docs: sii0680ide.device, unit 0)

there was an error while accessing this volume:

general device failure.
The disk is in an unreadable format.

errorcode = 20
io_command = 4
io_offset = -502986240
io_length = 0
io_actual = 7"

Is my HD dying ? when using partition wizard, the check says OK.

Re: how many partitions on a HD ?
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

@ all :

my HD is 80Go with 4 filesystems on it (namely LNX, SWP, SFS and FFS2).

(empty space 0.500 Gb)
LNX 0.015 Gb
SWAP 1.000 Gb
SFS 0.700 Gb
(empty space 3.260 Gb)
FFS2 8.000 Gb
SFS 3.000 Gb
FFS2 15.000 Gb
SFS 8.000 Gb
SFS 0.300 Gb
SFS 15.000 Gb
(empty space 15.800 Gb) <- place where I want a partition
SFS 5.500 Gb

I can not create a partition where I showed, nothing happens.

Neverthless, I just tried the following : create a partition in the empty space at the beginning of the HD (the 0.500 Gb which was once my SYS: partition) and suddenly, like a miracle, I can create a partition where I showed (the last empty space of 15.800 Gb) !!!!!

So apparently it is the empty space at the beginning of the HD which is generating this behavior !!!!

@ Joerg : thanks for this new release.

I have pb with the following french site www.alsabad.fr :
if you click on "competitions" there is a menu on the left which is not well aligned so it is already difficult to click on "interclubs" and even more difficult to click on "resultats 07-08".
