@Nuder_Try I usually just use the DiskImage command line for that. It is part of the DiskImage.device installation (which comes as an extra with OS4.1). Normally ends up in C: There's also a doc for it, but the syntax is simple:
DiskImage DRIVE/A,DISKIMAGE/A,WRITE/S
CLI Usage:
- DRIVE/A
DOS device name (f.e. DF0:, CD1:, HD2:, ...)
- DISKIMAGE/A
Disk image filename
- WRITE/S
Use if you want to write a disk image file back to disk
Example:
Create diskimage file from disk in CD0:
DiskImage CD0: diskimage.iso

@Lio Quote: Assign AmiCygnix Applis:Programmation/AmiCygnix/ Quote: maybe the first assign is not needed ?? Correct, it is of no use. Furthermore, the reason it fails is that it is missing the colon (:) after the first argument (AmiCygnix). If you had put that colon in, the Assign would work, as in making a virtual volume called AmiCygnix: pointing to the same place as the Cygnix: one you create in the next Assign line. In which case it would still not be used (since you use Cygnix:, not AmiCygnix: for the following Execute), but it would at least be harmless and not give you an error during boot. I believe the version from Enhancer is the only one which will work on an X5000. I.e. no need to try finding an older version on an OS 4.x installation.

@Paul Yeah, it looks like the Hyperion servers are down or at least in trouble today. The forum is also not accessible. You can also see from the log that the only server AmiUpdate succeeds in contacting is the "third party" server, www.amiupdate.net, which redirects to codebench.co.uk, where an update is found, but has an invalid entry in the database: "11:38:22 This update has a listed requirement with an invalid syntax (Amiga PPC and AmigaOS4 final edition Update 2), checking aborted". Some third party author has made an error in the entry. I have seen this before, but forget which program it is. Anyway, that's a different problem. As for the OS4-related update, you'll have to try again once the servers are back up. Best regards, Niels

@Gregor Quote: Run >NIL: *>NIL: Soundplayer QUIET
My question is now, for what reason(s) can this command fail or crash, so that it halts the booting of AmigaOS 4.1? Are there any known bugs in that program, which has not yet been fixed? There was one report years ago which from the crash log (obtained via serial) looked like something else had messed with the program's memory. It couldn't be reproduced, and since nothing pointed towards this command as the culprit, it was closed. Apart from that, none. But it could of course be a similar situation. Could you try commenting out the SoundPlayer command altogether without making any other changes to your startup? If it still happens, it would point to such a situation, i.e. that SoundPlayer is just a random victim of something else accessing memory it shouldn't. Although of course since it is the last thing in your startup, we might not see the crash anyway. But worth a try. Best regards, Niels

Isn't there also a certain way you should populate the RAM slots when using only two out of four of them? I don't remember the exact details, but I seem to remember something about that. (Or was that with the X1000?)
Something like using the two slots closest to and on opposite sides of the CPU, or similar.

Niels

Also, check that your main AmiUpdate dir isn't write-protected for some reason.
I'd expect AmiUpdate to create the file automatically if it isn't there when it needs it.

@Paul Quote: 1. Try as I might, I cannot find this file. I also used the find utility, besides just opening the directory to look for it. I get this: System:System/AmiUpdate/AmiUpdate and this: System:System/AmiUpdate/RollBack/2021-01-20/AmiUpdate
But I don't find the SiteList file anywhere. It should be in the main SYS:System/AmiUpdate/ dir. Note that it has no icon, so use Shell or view all files. Quote: 2. Over time I have added server addresses to AmiUpdate. For good measure and once and for all, what are all of the working sites to use for searching with AmiUpdate? Currently I have: amiupdate.codebench.co.uk update.amigaos.net www.amiupdate.net The first and third of those are actually the same server. It's supposed to be reachable at www.amiupdate.net, but there were some DNS problems some time ago, where a common workaround was to use the "direct" address of amiupdate.codebench.co.uk instead. Enable whichever one seems to work for you and disable the other. Note that this server is for public, third-party updates, not OS updates. The middle one, update.amigaos.net, is the one to use for official OS4 updates. Quote: It also searches ww2.hyperion-entertainment.com. Entering my hyperion username and passwrod there lets it scan there as well even though it's not listed in my servers. Dont bother with that one, it is not meant for direct access. When AmiUpdate uses the update.amigaos.net server, it is instructed to fetch stuff on this other server, but that should happen automatically "behind the scenes". It is however shown in the log to aid in problem solving. Quote: edit: I have now added ww2.hyperion-entertainment.com to the server list, but still get anothing but the RAR update listed. As written above, don't do that. Anyway, the RAR update comes from the third-party server, not from the OS one. Best regards, Niels

@ktadd
I haven't tried your procedure, but I'm just wondering while reading it:
If you don't click anywhere in the first file (MultiEdit), I assume your text cursor will be at the start of the file. When you then paste, won't it be pasted there? So if you have scrolled the display, but not moved the text cursor, isn't it natural for the display to scroll back where the paste is done, i.e. the start? At least that's what I would expect.
Or do you mean that in step 4, you actually click into the document at then end before pasting there? If so, yeah, I'd expect the display to stay there.
Best regards,
Niels

Could there be a third version of the library lurking somewhere possibly being loaded instead of the one in SYS:Libs?
What is listed with "which LIBS:oo.library ALL"?

@Raziel Quote: The problem is, that i need to be IN the directory when starting the arexx script, because arexx will only act on the directory it is started in This sounds to me like a misunderstanding - although I am not quite sure what you're actually trying to do, once you know where to do it. You can always build a path in a string variable, even an absolute one, or a relative one starting with one or more '/' for that matter, and use that string variable to "address command 'cd ' || pathvar" or something, i.e. effectively set the current dir of your running script's process somewhere else. Normally it's good practice to save your current dir first, so you can restore it at the end of the script. Best regards, Niels

@Raziel Quote: Anyone know of a good looking font that can be used with AmigaOS and has all the foreign characters implemented? I have an Arial Unicode MS (ARIALUNI.TTF) in my Fonts dir; I think I snatched it off some PC many years ago. There are others out there. Its size is a bit over 23 MB, though. But it does seem to contain more or less everything someone could imagine being thrown at it, within 16-bit UniCode (i.e. not those new-fangled emoji extension pages). Still, as posted later, it won't help if the texts displayed are converted to the locale charset, then they will be limited to that (8-bit) range of glyphs. To see everything correctly, I think it would be necessary to explicitly print it as Unicode and use a font like mentioned above. Not sure how it's done exactly (some function in locale.library?), but I have seen it done. I think this is what the Locale Prefs does with the list of country names in their own languages (second tab)? Best regards, Niels

The interesting point about this particular release is that the Installer had two issues which we found some time before the release of the recent Enhancer 2.0, and which gave problems with installation particularly in connection with the newer versions of the RadeonRx drivers. Andy fixed it (in his role of OS4 developer), we tested it , but were not able to get it released before the Enhancer was out. Now that it is out, it is relevant enough also for Matthew to say thank you, because it solves a nuisance which the users of his product have had until now. So can we all please just be happy now . Best regards, Niels

@walkero
You're welcome.
Yeah, obviously, it is just to illustrate a way to WBRun the player and follow up with the commands you actually want it to do, once it is up and listening. In your case you don't want to add files to the playlist, but to do whatever you need to do to play the URL (haven't tried using AmigaAmp for anything else than playing files myself, so I don't know what that command would be).
So use what you can and change the necesssary parts to do what you need.
Best regards,
Niels
