@AmigaBlitter
Great idea and good work! What software have you used?

I was never fond of the new Amiga logo (but is that still what Hyperion use?) and I am not to keen on the red glowing font you use.

Apart from that I would also like an URL where people can get more information. Perhaps an URL to a link collection where people could get more information about especially OS4.1 and new Amiga's.

Re: AmigaBounty kind of an idea but HW aligned

@Slayer

I can see your idea but I don't think complicated hardware designs and bounties make a good match.

Hardware design is expensive and will take a long long time. Bounties will not make an income that is large or steady enough to cover development costs.

IMHO hardware should be strictly business, it's the only way things will get done.

There is quite a lot of documents on the CD-ROM describing keyboard shortcuts etc.

What exactly do you need?

If you have to much time on your hands how about a little translation over the weekend

I'm sure many would appreciate it and it would be great to have some description and basics explained in English.

Re: The MUI vs Reaction slapfest thread (was OWB 3.6)

I already see how this thread could evolve... perhaps better moved into "to hot to handle"

My thoughts are that Reaction should be preferred for all new developments on AmigaOS4 as it is a part of the system supplied, supported and developed by Hyperion.
That MUI is currently available is a bonus for older applications and some ports.

We don't know if MUI will see further development (on OS4+) or even if it will be supplied with the OS in future updates.

Just my thoughts and not anything to do with technical matters or what is best.

Last chance!!

Not to dismiss OWB/NetSurf but keep in mind that there's many other projects out there worth supporting.

Read my initial post to see what to do.

Amigabounty sputnik payback - If you donated please read.

I am gonna forward the sputnik bounty money to OWB and NetSurf projects (50/50 split) tomorrow evening. If you are fine with that you don't need to do anything.

If anyone wants the money back instead or forwarded to other projects please email me within the next day (please supply me with Paypal address for the project you want to support)! Remember there are many active projects worth supporting

I gave Jan 31 as a deadline but I have been on vacation and really busy the last days after I got home so you now got a little extra time to get in touch.

Again I want to thank everybody for their support, it didn't work out with Sputnik but meanwhile we have gotten alternatives who's authors are in for a well deserved and nice surprise

Expect an overview for where the money went during the weekend.

Regards
Troels, Amigabounty

@Troels

If you donated to the Sputnik bounty please read this.

As I will be away all of January I hope many of you decide what I should do with your donation ASAP.

If I haven't got an email on Tuesday it won't be processed until the beginning of February, as I probably won't have internet access where I'm staying in January.

@LiveForIt

To be honest... not the games I have tried.

I don't know if there are any great games using Allegro which is also opensource but my impression of Allegro isn't to positive.

SpotUp suggested it as a bounty and as he is a real porting machine I thought it was a great idea as there must be something good that uses it. I guess we will see.

@samo79

Because I have Allegro and games using Allegro here on my A1.
I should be out soon, think Hitman is just waiting for feedback from the betatesters. Which I should be giving him btw.

EDIT: Just got a mail today that the final Allegro release candidate is ready. I really don't have any time to test it myself so I hope the others have fun with it;)

@virgola

Splitting up the bounty is a no go. The bounty was created with Sputnik in mind and people donated for that. Also a port of MUI4 would also take who knows how long.

Another thing is that AFAIK people have tried to obtain the sourcecode of MUI4 but can't get in contact with Stuntz.

Regarding elastic deadlines. I agree and Marcin have also had 13 months to do the port. Keep in mind that is a port from an amiga like platform, not a totally foreign structure.

He got an A1 23.1.2007 and it was lend to him by another Amiga enthusiast.
It is a seperate agreement between Marcin and the A1 owner and out of my control.

Sorry but that is not possible.

Parts of Sputnik is closed source, AFAIK only the rendering engine is opensoure.

@all
I can see (also from emails) that many of you want your bounty money transferred to either NetSurf or OWB. Please give me a day or two to find out how things are handled the easiest way

Quote:
yes, strange that marcik recently update on your thread link a small status (better than nothing) about sputnik for AOS4 and now the bounty is canceled. I really don't understand.

He only made that status update because I begged him to do it. I have been bombed with emails asking for a status update and have been able to say nothing because Marcin couldn't say anything.

Quote:
If marcik said, he need 2-3 months because MUI4, give to him some months more !!

And before that he needed 1-1.5 month more and before that he also needed more time.

Quote:
and marcik, communicate more about sputnik for AOS4 (because bounty. People wat to know what happened with th money). this fact really missing since months

Exactly, but the point is Marcin doesn't communicate anything.

Quote:
1.Give back the money to marcik !!!.
2.Marcik communicate with AOS4 users with status for sputnik !!

1. Marcin never had any money
2. No comments.

@ChrisH
Regarding him working on the MOS code, that actually could be a possibility I also thought of that but I doubt it.

I haven't heard from Marcin since his email to me and post to Aw.net just over a week ago. I emailed him back right away that this new deadline was really not ok with me and some things had to change if he needed more time again.
It certainly wasn't the first deadline he broke. Last three promises was Christmas, Late November/early december and end September.

Also keep in mind that he had an A1 since 23.11.2007.

Re: Sputnik bounty canceled.

@samo79

I didn't like to cancel the bounty, especially not as it might(?) be close to a release.

Marcin's short notice on Amigaworld recently was only written because I told him to. You shouldn't praise him for his communication skills, it took me 3-4 emails to get him to make that post (or even get a reply).

I get countless emails from people wanting their money back. Others just wanting to know the status of Sputnik when I get no real information from Marcin I end up in a situation where I can tell people nothing.

I was told long time ago (have an email) that work was started on the port and so I have told people. Then Marcin writes on AW.net it was started only 2-3 months ago, that really pisses me of.

-Marcin had an A1 since 23.11.2007
-Work on the OS4 port didn't start until 2-3 months ago.
-Bounty money was all collected 04.04.2007

Anyway the day Marcin posted on Aw.net and send me an email about it I mailed him back but still haven't heard a thing from him. He was then advised that the bounty would be canceled, still no word from him.

With that kind of interest and motivation, what would you think we could expect from future releases, after the bounty money was paid?

Amigabounty.net needs your help to choose bounties.
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Everyone can now go to Amigabounty.net and suggest new bounties but in our small community unfortunately we can't open all bounites and expect a positive result (lack of developers). We discussed this topic and decided to set up up a small bounty committee. This committee will then choose the best suited and most useful OS4 projects to be backed by a bounty.

We need 3 more people for that committee and people with a at least basic knowledge about porting and development will be preferred.
The committee should be able to take a look at a proposed bounty and evaluate the approximately needed effort to get a result.
