Use AllKeys to translate your volume up key to the 0 key and to translate the volume down key to 9. The zero and nine keys control MPlayers volume, so translating your multimedia keys to zero and nine works. I tested it on my system and it works great.

Thanks for the tip... I already thought that option but abandoned it as I would then loose the 0 and 9 keys which I need with other programs. But I noticed that In AllKeys Arexx commands can also be addressed directly to the Arexx port of MPlayer ('Mplayer.1'), without using 'rx' command and scripts. That seems to be the best solution for me, and there are no side effects if MPlayer is not running when pressing the multimedia keys.

As Joerg stated, Non VANILLA or RAWKEYS can't be mapped, but you can use AllKeys from OS4Depot to assign the media keys on keyboards. I have my multimedia volume keys mapped to control the volume level of both Nemosound and Mixer, (sometimes I switch between the two) so that they control the volume for all programs, including Mplayer.

I'm alredy using AllKeys, but I still cannot figure how to make MPlayer to use the multimediakeys directly... The only workaround I have found is to assign those keys to execute the included Arexx scripts which adjust the volume (RX 'VolumeDown.rx' and RX 'VolumeUp.rx'). Or is this the method you are using, too?

The dark side of using those scripts is that if you accidentally press the multimedia keys when MPlayer is NOT runing, rx will crash (8000003)!

@samo79

Is it possible to use the multimedia keys (Volume down and up) of a 110-key keyboard for volume control with MPlayer? How should they be defined? Does Mplayer understand the $xxxxxxxx key codes if used in the prefs file?

EDIT
I tested these lines in input.conf:

$800000EA volume -1
$800000E9 volume 1

Did not work .

Thanks... But isn't the v.2.7 included with OS4 the newest version, and thus probably the most stable one?

No, this is the first time I hear of it... Where can it be found? it was not on the OS4Depot, so is it a 68xxx program?

DiskMaster - bug fixes?

Who is currently ownig the rights for DiskMaster? Would it be possible to get some update for it? I do not miss any new features but the program (v. 2.7) crashes every now and them, so a bug-fix update would be wellcome.

PS. I know of course DOpus, but I don't like it... It simply feels clumsy, and some functions are missing (like 'update'). The original user interface of Diskmaster, with the functions in a column _between_ the file listings is the only 'correct' one for me !-)

Great Christmas present - thank you!-)

Has anyone been able to run Mplayer-Gui with this new version succesfully? M-Gui crashes ('8000 0003') every time I try (X5000).

Search with 'Duckduck' does not seem to work anymore with Odyssey. If I input any word in the search field, there appears only a blank page with this text on it:

"If this persists, please email us. Our support email address includes an anonymized error code that helps us understand the context of your search."

Is there any fix for this? The link defined on 'search engines' window is currently "https://duckduckgo.com/html/?q=%s".

Is there some where else to buy digital versions of software for OS4?

Alinea (https://www.amiga-shop.net/en/Amiga-Software:::29.html) has a few downlodable versions of OS4 software, e.g. Emotion.

Nice to meet you also on this forum!-)

@geennaam

Thank you for clarifying the subject!

Further questions came to my mind, concerning partitions:

What happens when you copy a partition to a new location (with dd, RAWdisk, Gparted etc.) on a SSD? I suppose no 'garbage' is transfered to the new partition?

And when you delete a whole partition, what happens to the 'garbage' left after that operation? TRIM does not help anymore as there is no partition to work with. Is there some difference whether you use Mediatoolbox in AmigaOS or Gparted in Linux?

@geennaam

I have a couple of questions:

1. Is there ANY speed advantege when using the most expensive NVMe SSDs, compared to the very chepest ones? Or are the bottlenecks of our system non-proportional and so severe, that even the cheapest ones can offer the maximal speed possible?

2. Samsung mentions in the specs of SSDs a feature named 'auto garbage collection', whereas e.g. A-Data and and WD do not. Is this feature of any help in our system without Trim support, or is it meaningless and not a reason to choose especially Samsung?

I agree there is no real need for more than one NVME. From my side it is only pure interest what is possible. To have one in Amiga is really great thing!

I have always admired your pioneering spirit, and tecnical knowledge which make it possible for you to search new solutions. The same is true for Geenam, of course!

Please keep us informed what you find out of these NVMe drives and adapters!-)

Interesting. I've read that the SAM460 was capable of booting Linux and Amigaos4 from microSD. But I didn't know that the X5000 was capable of doing to same for at least Linux. Would be nice if it can also boot the Amigaos4 kernel with modules from microSD.

Here is the recipe how to dot it:
https://forum.hyperion-entertainment.c ... wtopic.php?p=41033#p41033

AmigaOS kernel developers have said it should be possible to load also Kickstart from BootSD. I hope your new driver will motivate them to make the needed changes in U-Boot .

It is not possible to boot from NVMe at the moment, so the dual NVMe use case for amigaos and Linux is unclear to me.

Christian Zigotzky (the maintainer of Amiga Linux kernels) has announced he will integrate the NVMe drivers into his kernels next week. After that, you will be able to boot Linux from NVMe units, by loading first the kernel from x5000's bootSD. I use currently the same trick for booting Linux from a 6G SSD disk connected to a Sata3 controller board.

Is this limitation absolute, or is it possible to make some workaround later? I was thinking about the possibility to use one slot for AmigaOS, and another for Linux, without needing to occupy two pcie slots.

Have this hangups before but goes away when change to internal ethernet onboard card on my X5000..
I take out my pci ethernet card from.pci slot too... So only use internal ethnet.

I tested that some times earlier, too, but it did not solve the problem in my machine. And I anyway need a nic as Linux has initiation problems with the X5000 onboard ethernet - no one has been able to fix that issue though it has been present several years!

But delaying the execution of 'AddNetInterface' command with 3 secs in Network-Startup has so far worked for me. No hangups during a week...

I'm afraid I made a conclusion too hastily... The boot hangup problem reappeared after few days! So, either there are several sources for that issue in my machine, or just something totally independent of X-Dock.

Now I'm testing with a delay at the beginning of Network-startup... So far zero hangups, but I have now to follow the situation during a longer period.

I used to have a slightly different WB boot problem. More often than not, my X5000 would boot into an empty grey screen with an empty screenbar.

I removed X-Dock from WBstartup but the problem persisted. In the end it turned out that, over time, I had installed a few AHI drivers for cards I don't use, and one of these seems to have been causing the hang-up. Since I removed all unnecessary drivers from DEVS:AHI and DEVS:AudioModes, I've never had such a problem.

Yes, I remember having some years ago problems with unnecessary AudioModes, too! Since then I have kept installed only those which I really need.
