Sorry for the late reply... the whole thing is configured using a web browser. OWB should be fine I would imagine.

Buy a QNAP NAS station and throw the 2Tb drive in there. Best thing I've ever bought; automatic SAMBA setup for your shares, web server, IMAP mail server, SVN server, Multimedia Station etc etc. I have mine connected to my A1, Mac and PC and they all share data perfectly.

GCC Compiling on a 1Tb Linux Share

Before I start getting back into my AmigaOS development, I wanted to amalgamate all of my projects together into one place on my QNAP NAS Server, whether they be Amiga, Mac, Windows or Web based projects.
This way they're all backed up at regular intervals and I can access source code over the network and if need be, over the internet via SVN.
Now, with everything now in place, I'm trying to compile a simple AmigaOS project over a network share which I've mounted with SMBFS on OS4.1 Update 2.
However, I've come across a problem with GCC which spurts out the following if I try to compile:
Assember messages: Fatal Error: can't write test.o: No space left on device Fatal Error: can't close test.o: No such file or directory
So, there's 891Gb left on the server, which leads me to believe the system (either GCC or SMBFS) is falling over because it's over 4Gb.
Does anyone have any experience of dealing with such a situation or am I stuck to checking out over SVN on my local network and recommitting when done?
Does SMBFS need a re-write for OS4.1 to use larger file systems or is GCC at fault here?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Cheers, Daniel

@BillE Quote: Why is it that new features are always unavailable to developers for years after they have made it into the OS releases? Yes, it's all rather silly isn't it!

@Amigo1 You are correct, unfortunately Epistula has been scrapped, and instead of re-writing everything here I'll just post a link to the AW.net explanation: Why Epistula DiedIt is unfortunate as I had, on my system at least, working MSN and ICQ/AIM (which used the same protocol) plugins for it. I even released the source code for the plugins and the SDK for writing plugins but they never got used or expanded on by anyone but myself. From my experience of writing this over the years, most people wanted MSN compatibility and nothing else, hence a dedicated MSN client like SabreMSN was born. I can probably dig everything (no source code though) out for interested people and send them across to see if they work for you. However, the AIM/ICQ protocol has probably changed since I last worked on them so they might not be any good anyway.

Actually as IExec->FreeVec() allows passing in a NULL pointer (in this case it will simply do nothing) you can just write:
Does it? You learn something new everyday... I've always checked if the memory pointed is NULL or not before IExec->FreeVec.

@ikir Precisely! Believe me, there are a lot of advantages to coding an application with the OS4 API as opposed to the 3.x API as there have been many improvements to a number of functions which make it nicer, easier and safer to programme for. Epistula is now so tied to the OS4 API it would take quite a major rewrite to adapt it to OS3.x and therefore it won't happen, regardless of how many people will use it or not because I really don't care how many people like it, pay for it or despise it; at the end of the day it's written by me, for me and as a nice side effect of that, you lot just get to play along if you so choose Now stop filling threads associated with my software with your fruitless arguments

@pjs Quote: Hi, just curious how things are going with Epistula. From what little time I've been able to spend with the demo, it has looked impressive.
I've just released the re-written version as a beta for registered users. This version will hopefully be more stable and provide more functionality than the previous. Quote: Your efforts on file transfers sound great! Do you think it will work with AIM too?
Yes, the system has been designed to be used from any of the plugins so if the AIM plugin eventually gains file transfer support then yes, it should work with AIM too. Daniel

@DJBase Sorry, not going to happen I'm afraid The plugins may compile for 3.x but the main Epistula application certainly will not. I could help someone build a 3.x application to communicate with the plugins though if that would prove useful. That way someone could build a nice 3.x messenger in ReAction or through the console?

I must say, they are starting to grow on me, slowly, but I still think they're quite blurry to look at; makes my eyes hurt trying to focus on them. Still can't say I'm a fan of some of the the dull colours and overuse of gradients, or the 'bright' glares but they're definetly getting better. I don't mean to critisise but I think I'll still stick to my 32 colour glowicons for now Well done though Martin, you are a great asset to the Amiga!

I've been extremely busy with my real job lately and I've just lost any motivation to continue programming when I get back home so progress has been slow.
I have however finished emoticon support, and added the ability to use 32bit PNG icons for the GUI elements with a new MCC I've written, which in turn has allowed me to use AISS from Mason.
Automatic 'Away' support is being added currently, along with the various lists to show who's blocked, allowed, added you to their lists etc.
On the MSN plugin front, I've added some new features and have been busy fixing some broken code and completing MSN v11 support.
I'm afraid the next version won't be released until at least OS4 final is out, or an update 5, due to new features of the operating system I've integrated which aren't public yet.
Registered OS4 beta testers might get an update soon though, to at least get some testing done before a fulll public release.
