Re: Strange jittering sound when switching from Workbench to AmiCygnix

@LiveForIt

Just tested with AmigaAMP 3.33 and I switch without any issues. No jittering happens. Seems the problem is in TuneNet.

Strange jittering sound when switching from Workbench to AmiCygnix
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hello,
I have this strange sound jittering of TuneNet playing MP3 music when switching from Workbench screen to AmiCygnix screen.
Here is a video to show what is happening:

If I stop the song and press play again, it plays normal again, but as soon as I switch to the AmiCygnix screen, the replay starts to jitter again.

It doesn't happen when I scroll the screens.

Does it have something to do with interrupts of the screens?

Is there a way to fix this jittering, or I just shall try to avoid it by scrolling down the AmiCygnix screen, then up as soon as I press play on TuneNet?

P.S. It doesn't happen when I switch from AmiCygnix to Workbench screen. Only when I switch from Workbench to AmiCygnix screen as shown in the video.

I have my MicroA1 with PowerPC 750GX 800 MHz and it still works fine since 2005. Back in 2006 I think, after a storm, the onboard network stopped working, so I went and bought genuine network card and installed it in one of the slots and it continued working with it and surfing the Internet. So I can confirm that PCI network cards work on it, as long as you have the correct driver for the chipset. I have to check which was it. Here is a video of my Micro A1 configuration:

You shall be careful when using other people's content. Copyright strike is the worst that can happen to anyone on YouTube. I wonder why this guy Marcus Neervoort did it to you? Is he asking for money or something else? You shall try contacting him, delete the used content and ask him to remove the strike, since it is bad for the channel and it's future.

Once I had copyright strike by Microsoft (my only one ever), for showing activation of a Windows laptop. It turned out to be an third party company who used automated tool (wrong obviously) and they placed strikes on thousands of videos. Later they retracted the strike and my channel was good, but it wasn't nice experience.

Re: Switch between many amigaos4 machines

@kas1e

I don't have experience with KVM switches, but I had many Amigas and other machines connected to single monitor, so I tested lots of HDMI switchers, that I still use to date, because for some reason my AmigaOne X1000 doesn't boot when it is connected to the Decklink framegrabber, but works okay when booted to the BenQ 4K display that I use. For the X1000 I use this bi-directional switch:

https://youtu.be/K1mcF7w9pqg

Which works both ways i.e you can use it for two machines to switch to single monitor between each other, or to use single machines and switch between two outputs - like in my case, I boot to the monitor and then switch to the framegrabber, after AmigaOS 4 is fully loaded. I also have a HDMI splitter, which shall take one HDMI signal and split it to two signals for two display, but it didn't work with the X1000. For more machines and camcorder switching I use 3 port and 5 port HDMI switchers, which allow me to select the input signal from 3 and 5 five different sources.

One major flaw of the current Amiga systems is the lack of sleep/hibernate function. If they had such power management features, the HDMI switchers automatically select the active source, so if I don't use some machine, I just put it to sleep (keeping all my current windows and programs open) and then just automatically get the signal from the next machine.

Re: What's with all the emulators?

It wasn't me who uploaded all the emulators at once on OS4Depot.

I stopped uploading emulators to OS4Depot, because I also want to keep the old versions intact, embedding videos etc. Previously when I uploaded new version, the old was lost. Old versions are usually faster, so I keep them as well.

As I can see the uploader uploaded the emulators, because later some emulators frontend was released that needed the emulators handy on OS4Depot.net

I use FTPMount on a daily base for years now, for maintaining my website and didn't notice anything strange since I updated to AmigaOS 4.1 U3.

The only bug I always encounter is when I need to shutdown the netinterface, FTPMount crashes on the next connection to FTP that can be prevented only with reboot.

Re: Programs needing Large File Support

@Slayer

With MPlayer for AmigaOS4 SVN-r29068-4.2.3, I can play files larger than 2147483647 bytes (tried with 2 204 870 112 and 2 907 812 194 bytes big file), but I can not seek through them. So I don't know if they will play after the second gigabyte. They start to play normally though, I am just not waiting over 2 hours to see if they work fully.

Why disable SVG at all?
As written in the changelog to save RAM, it's a feature next to nobody needs.

Wasnt better to can choose that with an option?
An option to disable SVG would be completely pointless since the SVG code would still be in the much larger OWB executable.

Is it possible to add SVG support in separate file and only if enabled to load it?
This way both camps (SVG and non-SVG) will be happy. And the SVG enabling people will know the real cost of enabling SVG (less free RAM).

Re: A-EON Technology Can Attract People Through Facebook?

@Helgis

There are many ways to attract customers to buy a product. Facebook is one of them, but if A-EON wants to succeed, they must do as much marketing as possible with advertising, social groups, word of mouth, twisting arms, superior product, brand name recognition, quality service etc, etc...
If they focus only on one aspect they will not gain much, but if they focus on as much as their resources and budged allows it will be best.

You can legally purchase TurboCalc 4.0 on Aminet CD 40 with discount offer to upgrate to TurboCalc 5.0. I use this version of TurboCalc and works fine for my needs, but I don't know if the upgrate offer is still valid.

@pseudaxos

Test if you have the correct ROMs for the version of MAME which you are running. There is a high probability that a ROM working on the latest MAME will not work on the AmigaOS 4 version on MAME which is compile of MAME 1.06.

Re: Issues / Observatons with the new SDK 53.13

My problem with the new SDK is that whatever I compile with the Allegro library, it links okay, but crashes after startup. With the old SDK I was not able to compile Allegro software at all, because it did not support dinymic linking. But dynamic link for SDL works fine with the new SDK, so I am not sure what I did wrong for Allegro.

@nubechecorre

The same FPS, because the game is synced. If it have free resources left, they are given back to the system. But with old SDL ports, you can not see, because the older SDL have this bug, where it always used 100% the CPU. Probably because of delay loops, instead of timer interrupts for frame rate sync.

According to post on:
this thread on Amiga.org,
Quote:

Then we had a showing off the allegro games engine. Ported games like sonic and other classic titles where playing. It was finally raffle with top prize a sam440!/

So it was publically present, and probably works good enough to not crash for some hours during the party. Have anyone else seen Allegro on AmigaOS 4 in action?

Allegro on Amiga will make available some games and applications on AmigaOS and Spot will be able to do the 10000th upload to OS4Depot.net then.

Last time I read about the AmigaOS 4.1 port of Allegro was on Amiga.org. It was presented on MAG Bash party in UK and had some games like Sonic ported already. But I don't know much more, if it have sound or worked at all.
