Re: SAM top USB gives up

@Mrodfr

Try using FAT 12. Just for grins It seems to work better for me.

I have done some more tinkering and at least for my 667 Rev C
Sam managed to get stable USB.

This is what I've done;
1.) Moved the DVD to J22. ( As mentioned before )

2.) In Kicklayout, put semicolons before
A. uhci.usbhcd
B. bootmouse.usbfd
C. bootkeyboard.usbfd
D. massstorage.usbfd

3.) Moved massstorage.fdclass out of SYS:Devs/USB/fdclasses
( do not delete it, just put it elsewhere. )

4.) Keep a USB Memory stick in the top (keyboard) port.
( Don't ask, I don't know why this works. )

5.) Mouse in bottom port.

6.) Keyboard in one of the front ports.

I'm now going to try using a Bus Powered Hub in the Mouse Port
with Mouse + Kybd in the Hub.

The board has been running for 28 hours without USB falling off.
Playing DVDs, web stuff, other things. Just no USB Memory.

This sucks.

@Chris

Yesterday I moved the DVD drive to J22 SATA connector. It (???) seems
to help USB stability on my 667 Rev C board. ???

J22 is the bottom SATA next to the PCI slot.

I have the Sam440ep Rev C 667MHz board. Nothing but trouble
with USB ports going to sleep. It's much better with the last update.
Right now I have the kybd in a front port and the mouse in the top
rear port where the keyboard should be. Sad.

Yes, USB worked fine under Linux. It is no longer on my Sam.

@billt

I agree with your assessment of using ported software. Some is worthwhile
and prevents the necessity of reinventing wheels. Web browsers, things that
may need or should have cross-platform compatibility like document software,
and maybe some games, time wasters etc.. But, things like 3D should be
Amiga and not a ported over API just so it can be cross platform compatible
unless that truly is *THE* best way to go.

Since the X1k is a new beginning perhaps what is needed is a view toward
software that is *for* a beginning.

OMG! The guys that made the micro are gone!

Just who do they think they are?

No matter, now it's someone else who must support my machine.

Back to reality----------
I have a uA1c and just not interested in upgrading. Sorry.

When setting the NAME be sure each Unit/Port is different.

PPC440EP_ETH1 and PPC440EP_ETH0 (Be sure to hit enter after changing NAME)

Also supply a simple Hostname, samiga or mybox or whatever.

I'm not a video guy either. So, , in my dreams......

It seems, in simplistic terms, that it should be possible to use the counters
and timers of Xmos to overlay video.

Lets say some 640x480 text is to be overlayed onto a 1024x768 background. So some
way would be needed to stretch the text for full screen display. Perhaps Xena
could be programed for a task like this. Since it's all digital it would be like
replacing background pixels with forground pixels before going to display.

Or something like that. ???

Yet some amigans has made a full chicken out of the feather totally ignoring the available information.

At some point in time somebody noticed that rubber (feather) was flexible and

Which came first, chips or desktop computers?

I'm not a video guy, but perhaps it could be used for mixing signals from
various sources having different formats or timing. Seems also possible to use
for sound mixing/splitting.

(Hmm, thinking to self, there's an interesting looking feather.)

To me it seems ONE part of the system is not yet ready. AHI, CAMD, USB to name a few, too much possibilities

Unless i can get at least one confirmation (preferrably from CAMD maintainer lylehaze) i'm stuck with too many unknowns

Which is why I suggested connecting speakers to the MT-32. Seems
like perhaps the soundcard is not ready/initialized as you said the
MT-32 was getting MIDI data, but no sound was being produced. So
if the MT-32 is indeed playing then the problem moves to the
soundcard or trying to get camdusb to initialize later in startup.

Or something??
