@eliyahu

Thank you for your very informative A1222 demo. I am very impressed.

You answered all my questions about software, compatibily, sound, video and networking.

I was delighted to see PPaint, SketchBlock, DVplayer, Ignition, Odyssey and other programs running on your system.

Thanks,

@kas1e

Very impressive. It is great to see such high screen resolution, and so much happening on the screen.

Obviously, the X5000 is much more powerful than my ancient OS4 system. I am limited by system RAM and VRAM.

I created two AmigaOS 3.2 emulations on my MicroA1.

First one is very simple ...
A2000HD with 68000 CPU, 1MB chipram, 8MB fastram, OCS, NTSC.
I use standard icons, because the GlowIcons look chunky.

Second emulation takes alot of RAM on my system ...
Configured for 68020/68881, KickA1200.rom, 2MB chipmem, 8MB fastmem, 8MB gfx memory, uaegfx and Picasso96.
I use the GlowIcons, but it would look better with a higher screen resolution. Currently using uaegfx 640×480 32 bit.
1024×768 32 bit looks nice but takes way more RAM.

@Primax

Sorry, please forgive my previous comment...

Reading some comments on OS4depot joggled my memory.

One of the earlier releases of Timberwolf contained everything needed to make it run. Some of the updates did not contain a complete release of all the required files and directories. As a result, we had to copy the new files into the old drawer to overwrite the old files that needed updating. Each time I updated Timberwolf, I kept a complete backup of my previous version to fall back on if the update failed.

I suspect you have somehow lost some of the files or directory structure that are required by Timberwolf.

As per comments on OS4depot ... there is a "fix".

If anyone has problems to Start Timberwolf just Download the older Version from Aminet and overwrite these Files with the Files from the newer version from OS4 Depot Archive!

This is from 2019, and I have not tested this theory. Assuming they are the correct distributions it should work. In theory, the older version on Aminet would setup the required directory structure and files, and the update on OS4depot would update the Timberwolf program and some related files.

@Primax

I installed Timberwolf RC3 so long ago that I don't remember if there was any special trick to make it work.

VERY IMPORTANT: Read the included Readme file, it contains vital information about how to run Timberwolf.

Over the years, I have installed some beta versions, RC1, RC2 and RC3. I seem to recall simply downloading each new version and installing it in its own drawer to test then deleting or archiving the previous version.

There are some files that should be copied over to the new version, user configs and bookmarks.

Timberwolf uses alot of memory and requires the "random" device for some functions. Can't remember if it requires special fonts.

For many years, I had the "random" device disabled because it caused instability on my system. This prevented me from saving bookmarks in Timberwolf.

"Random" device seems to work ok now on AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 2 (fingers crossed hoping I didn't jinx myself by saying so).

BTW, Timberwolf does not like JXFS partitions, but is ok with FFS2 and SFS2 partitions.

@Primax
@Raziel

This post done using IBrowse 2.5.5 ...

I still have Timberwolf 4.0.1 (Release Candidate 3) on my MicroA1 for nostalgia. I rarely use it, because it is very annoying.

Today, I used Timberwolf several times to access Amiga websites, Amiga.org, Amigaworld.net and Amigans.net.

Amiga.org seems to work ok most of the time.

Amigaworld.net ...
I get secure connection failed messages, saying
www.amigaworld.net:443 uses an invalid security certificate.

But eventually, it settles down.

Amigans.net ...
The connection was interrupted message.
The connection to www.amigans.net was interrupted while the page was loading.

When quitting Timberwolf, I usually get a DSI error and a message saying that the parent process croaked before it closed the associated child processes.

Anyways, I have other web browsers that I use more often.

Re: A-EON OS?

@geennaam

IMHO, my MicroA1 is the minimum hardware platform for OS4.
IBM PPC 750 GX CPU, 256 MB RAM, onboard graphics chip with 32 MB graphics RAM, hard drive and DVD combo drive.

Nothing fancy, just works ok for my current needs.

Shortly after I purchased Enhancer Software, I installed approximately 90% of the software on the Enhancer CD.

AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 2 was released in December 2020.

I did a simple update, but found that some Enhancer stuff had been overwritten by Update 2, so I did a clean install (quick format, installed FE, FE Update 1 and FE Update 2). Of course, all of my Enhancer Software was erased in this process.

After I installed AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 2 (hotfix), I decided to install only a few applications from the Enhancer Software package (plus all the required classes, gadgets, Updater and servers).

So, in the end, I have cherry-picked bits and pieces from the Enhancer Software version 1.5 package. My other 3rd party stuff was on another partition or my backup.

Of course, if I had a SAM 460, X1000 or X5000, it would be a different story.

@geennaam

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I applaud the work that A-EON team and others have done to enhance our OS4 systems.

I own a very old MicroA1 system running the following:

AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 2 + selected parts of Enhancer Software v1.5

And other 3rd party software products.

And, yes, I purchased the Enhancer Software Special Edition Version 1.5 from AmigaKit sometime after Hyperion released AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 1 ... during those years when Hyperion seemed to be asleep.

I will pass on this opportunity to replace OS4 system commands. I have already been down this road before.

On the other hand, I would be interested in trying out your new OS.

Re: AmigaOS 3.2 for all Classic Amigas released and available
Quite a regular

@kas1e

I am experimenting more with AmigaOS 3.2 running on e-uae running on AmigaOS4.1 FE Update 2 on my MicroA1 computer.

Looks quite nice with Picasso96 and UAEGfx.

Currently using the following screenmode setting:
uaegfx: 640x480 32bit BGRA

Emulating an A1200 with 2 MB chipRAM, 8 MB fastRAM and 8 MB graphics memory.

KickA1200.rom

cpu_type=68020/68881
chipset=AGA
ntsc=true
cpu_speed=max
cpu_compatible=no
cpu_24bit_addressing=no
chipmem_size=4
fastmem_size=8
gfxcard_size=8

gfx_fullscreen_amiga=yes
gfx_fullscreen_picasso=yes
gfx_linemode=double
#gfx_width=640
#gfx_height=480
gfx_center_horizontal=true
gfx_center_vertical=true

I was trying much higher settings for fastmem_size and gfxcard_size but ran out of physical RAM. Right now these settings are scaled back drastically just to get it working. I will increase next time I play further.

Anyways, seems to work fine so far. I need to test some more programs to see how well they work with this configuration.

@kas1e

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question.

I use a very old "work in progress" version of e-uae. I know it can emulate OCS and AGA chipsets, but I don't know what other options are available. My main reason for using e-uae was to run a few old time favourites (Amiga Appetizer suite, AmigaVision, Lemmings, Shanghai tile game, Lore of Conquest, SimCity ...).

Quote:
So how well does it run in e-uae on Amigaos4?

I still need to do some tweeking, but I have AmigaOS 3.2 running in e-uae on AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 2.

After I figured out how to make e-uae recognize my CD drive, the actual install went quite well.

Emulating an A2000 with 68000 CPU, OCS chipset and NTSC, the glowicons don't look very good, so I went with standard icons. Probably needs more colours and higher resolution.

Emulating an A1200 with 68020 CPU, AGA chipset and NTSC, the glowicons looked much better.

Speedwise, loading took a bit longer than my AmigaOS 3.1 emulation, but seemed fast enough once I had the Workbench screen.

I need to try out some programs for further comparison.

BTW, I am fine with standard icons. That's what I am used to seeing with AmigaOS 3.1.
