Hi @AmiKit

Well, now I centered the monitor's display and I can see blinking underscore (_) at the upper left corner.
'Been there; done that'! I removed the U-Boot chip and cleaned it and the socket with electronic cleaner fluid. Fixed it up. BIOS only works if U-BOOT ROM is 100% connected...

@Sundown
If the battery is number one on the list of things that cause a no boot-up Amiga, then I think the U-Boot chip as second on the list. The 'master switch box' when you think about it. I think it's the low profile socket mounting.

Re: A1 CPU module reparation

Just can't stay away

Hi @tonyw

Are you sure that's the problem?

No, I'm not. To me it's just another connection to consider. If the A1 worked for awhile and then stopped and refused to budge and a logic probe showed CPU signals of life, then what? It could have been a case of uneven CPU heat over time disturbed/warped the surface. I agree with you; look over the terrain and really try to get a picture of CPU & module surfaces. How about a bad application of heat sink grease could have started it. If I were to do something, I would remove the CPU module and heat sink and spray clean the area and components. When I redone mine in the first year I had it, the cooling system was reworked. I would say if my cleanups didn't get anything going , then the repair center should hook up the oscilloscope and take a better look to see if the CPU is really dead.
Another component that will leave you in the dark literally, is the U-Boot Rom chip. It does all BIOS switching to the OS. So if the CPU is fine, nothing will happen until U-Boot says so. The low profile chip socket can cause a bad connections. I've removed mine and spray cleaned the chip and socket and got a totally 'blackout' video going again. That's it; connections.

Hi @nubechecorre

... the game suddenly freezes and i cannot do anything...and i have to hard reset
What kind of input: mouse or joystick?
Was it USB optical or PS2? I don't use USB optical because it's too wobbly. PS2 always works.

Seriously, that's the problem. I replaced mine within the year of getting the A1 in 2003. Replaced it with a ThermalTake.

How do I setup SRec to record system sounds? I'm making a new .avi file and not sure how to use PCM sound. Sound is supported now?

Finalizing and releasing the MAP.
Yeh, good one! I thought the X1000 was that, but somewhere I heard it was a software project like Timberwolf. Is there more still?

Hi @ChrisH
#13 [b]...So I concluded it is definitely a temperature issue (although it might still be a slightly faulty component triggered by high temp, but proving that would be hard).[]

FWIW, from this A1-XE-G4, My UBoot won't boot at below 73'F without at least three minutes warmup.
I have a CoolerMaster case & gauges and calibrated temp probe in the CPU base.

As for too hot limit, 45'C is my limit cutout based on Quake2 load. Always choked and sputtered playing Quake2 because on the puny cooling system. Added a Zelman fan and ended that. I haven't foggiest what's required for SAM. You might want to use a micro fan; I would.

Hi all,
Installed the OS Update 2 according to Hyperion's PDF guide and all went perfect. I love the AmiDock Icon Scaling; I set mine to 80% size. OMG, the TK libs in Python 2.5.5 are awesome; even has a compiler directory. Nice Update; thank's OS4 Team! I'm off tho play with the Turtle!

@Helgis

It's true what you say, but i think there is a great misunderstanding from the very beginning of the topic.
Well, hell yeah? Are you a major stockholder/investor in the company? Or, official company officer/spokes person? You blab about the X1000 as if it was on your desk right now. Is it? Excuse me for talking out-of-the-side-of-my-A1.

@jaokim

GNU Findutils
What?! It says GNU Operating System on the title page. Do I really need Unix ports of system stuff for Amiga OS4 which is not Unix. Hey, what 's goin'on?

So something like "find" and "search" on Amiga.
'FindMore' works nice

could this be a failing PSU ?
No, connections. Too many to count...

no signal to monitor thats as far as we get :(
Uboot is not switching the gfx system. Remove the chip and clean-up the pins & socket with electrical spray cleaner. and re-install. Worked here long ago.

If you use Hollywood you target on many platforms (including the mainstream)!
So, how do I make my proggy exclusive to OS4?
I didn't think SDLBasic was the choice because it on PCs and Linux everywhere.

@Androxyn

Anyone having any plans or intentions of creating something new for X1000?
I've got addicted to 'poker' sometime back and programming a nice Texas Hold'em game for some time in SDLBasic. I can play a reasonably good game on the A1 now. I made a movie:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/11367727@N07/4145395011/
I may consider converting my game to Hollywood. I haven't decided because I don't think there's that many Amigans that love poker. I guess a poll on this topic would help get some info.

What about Quake 4 ?The time has come. Seriously? "Halo - Combat Evolved" was ten times better and is now seven years old.
