Re: Some questions regarding OS4 for Classic Amigas

Why do we always standardise on the WORST system ?

IDE not SCSI

VHS not BETA

Winblows not Anything else

USB not FireWire

PCI crappy config not Zorro Autoconfig

I have always been wondering that too. But it's the price not superiority or anything else (IDE, VHS). And world domination (Winblows, USB).

I agree. This is same in many different areas in computing nowadays. I can't understand why people make it big fuss some 1% speed difference because one can't really notice it with bare eyes.

When switching between big and small modes using a zoom gadget it should remember different positions of the window for both modes.

@joerg

And we don't have "ExamineDir()" in the latest available SDK so we can't start to use it. I really hope OS4 devs can release classic version of OS4 very quick so they can start creating a new SDK.

I think those two should be easy to install. But Bochs is very very slow so it's not quite useful IMHO.

How COOL would it be to get an Amiga Fantasy case with the Sam440EP AND the mini-mig in there?!?!

That would be extremely COOL !!!!!!!!! And even better if they can make Sam460EX/SamMPC8641D/SamPASemi1682M in future !!! But it's not that cool without OS4 of course.

@TMTisFree

How can you make it 12-14 sec ? If I make my WBStartup empty it takes still 30 sec hard reset and 15 sec soft reboot. Can a CPU and hard drive make that much difference. When you guys start your stopwatches ? At the same time when you press reset button or when you see first messages from UBoot ??? Setting up hardware by UBoot takes some seconds too of course.

12 sec

It take approx. 40 secs here to fully loaded WB (and all docks and so on). But I have a lot of stuff in WBStartup, user-startup and AmiDock. (I have that "run addnetinterface" in S-S.)

List of WBStartup: AISS, FuelGauge, StartTunenet, SGrab, Wet, AutoUpdateWB, CapsLockStater, TitleClock, BenchTrash, RAWBInfo, DefIcons, AsyncWB, AmiDock, ClickToFront, DepthToFront, ContextMenus, DiskImageGUI.

I have two visible dock panels and three hidden ones.

Re: Monitor problem

Just can't stay away

ScreenMode.prefs editor shows me horizontal frequency is 66,13 kHz when manual of my monitor tells I should use 65.29 kHz. Maybe this is a problem ? My monitor selects wrong mode often after reboot. And I can't change a screen mode of Uboot. So if anybody can tell me where to put that "-hsync" tooltype correctly ?!

"Short cut" icons in Winblows is a little bit same as you select "Leave out" from Workbenches Icon menu.

Correction: "Leave out" doesn't make no additional files, windblows' "short cut" does. "Leave out" creates a file .backdrop in the root directory of the relevant file system and there all the "left out" icons are listed.

That's why I said "a little bit same". But I think meaning and common usage of those features is mostly the same.

Quote:
when you 'leave out' an icon it's not anymore in it's original place

WB doesn't show it in its original place but it's still there (use List/Dir command in shell).

I made and uploaded MakelinkGUI in os4depot.net so people can make shortcut links easily.

@TetiSoft

Should I put this -hsync in the end of the "MODE" tooltype or should I put it on a new line ? Is it in Hz or kiloHz ?
"MODE=1680x1050@60-hsync=65290" is this correct ? Btw. the monitor is LG L204WT.
