I do miss however when you try to save a document elsewhere the help you had before: when typing the name: a list of possible (recent) names appeared, and you could complete the name by clicking in one.

This must be a feature of GTK+, which seemed to be removed.

I also tested a number of the Abiword_fileimport examples. Not all worked
(besides .pdf for which the readme warned that it was suppressed)
eg
-.aw nothing appeared

- .tex document was not "rendered"

Maybe i lost something when updating ?

The Applix Word (.aw) plug-in seems to be broken. I must have a look at it.
Also the .tex plug-in does not work, but I have absolutely no idea, what's going wrong.
PDF import does not work as described in the README, only PDF export.

When looking at the list of the 'save as' formats i don't see a .docx extension.

Did i miss somehting?

There must be an entry "Office Open XML (.docx)" in the list of the file formats. It is activated by default and should be there.

@kilaueabart

AbiWord can only import MS-Word files and cannot write them, even the latest version can't. But you're right, AbiWord pretends that he can do it.

@Ricossa

AmiCygnix uses the ghostscript interpreter in "Sys:Utilities/Ghostscript" with "amiga_printer" device to print.

Do you have to start Audacious also twice on the desktop? And what happens if you relaunch Audacious a third time?
I have no idea how to solve this. What system do you have? Maybe it is the fault of the pthreads library, but it is only a guess.

It's amazing how good the performance is on a 16 bit screen!

Will Amicygnix be given full 32 bit support in the future? (I really prefer running a 32 bit screen.)

The picasso96wb driver on a 16 bit workbench is indeed the fastest display available so far.
32 bit is planned, but still in development. Simple X11 programs are already working, but no GTK+ programs.

Whow - did not expect this

Problem: This will only be fixed in new packages. The old packages will still freeze, so you cannot use this assign. But you found a bug, which was very hard to find - thanks!

Excellent work! But I've tried it here and I cannot reproduce the problem.
The strange thing is, that you don't get any output, before the system freezes. Here is a new version of the test program with an optimized buffer handlich for the assign name:

Link: dirtest2

Just a guess, maybe it works.

@pvanni

Does the program work with deactivated assigns?

Could you try it again with removed assigns in the user-startup? (Maybe with an empty user-startup)

Some applications do support the "-geometry WidthxHeight+Xpos+Ypos" or the "--geometry=WidthxHeight+Xpos+Ypos" argument. AbiWord and Gnumeric do support it. So you can use this script for AbiWord:

;
; $VER: Start_AbiWord_Standalone.bat 4.1 (25.06.2012) © Edgar Schwan
;

.key VERBOSE/K,DISPLAYNUMBER/K,ARGS/M
.def VERBOSE 0
.def DISPLAYNUMBER -1
.bra {
.ket }

Set PROGPATH "Cygnix:CygnixPPC/bin/abiword"

Set DEF_XDRIVER "picasso96wb"
Set DEF_WINWIDTH "1024"
Set DEF_WINHEIGHT "768"
Set DEF_WINDOWMANAGER "Openbox"

If EXISTS "Cygnix:myX11SetupLight"
Cygnix:myX11SetupLight
If ${DONOTSTART} EQ "YES"
Quit 20
EndIf
Else
Set Cygnix/CYGNIX_SCREEN_MODE ${DEF_XDRIVER}@${DEF_WINWIDTH}x${DEF_WINHEIGHT}x16
Set Cygnix/CYGNIX_DESKTOP_BACKGROUND "none"
Set Cygnix/CYGNIX_WINDOW_MANAGER "Cygnix:CygnixPPC/bin/openbox"
EndIf

Set PROGARGS "--geometry=${DEF_WINWIDTH}x${DEF_WINHEIGHT}+0+0"

; Internal settings
Set LAUNCH_SOUND_SERVER 0
Set LAUNCH_WINDOW_MANAGER 1
Set OPENBOX_RC_FILE "openbox-rc.xml"

Execute Cygnix:S/Execute_Standalone.bat VERBOSE={VERBOSE} DISPLAYNUMBER={DISPLAYNUMBER} {ARGS}

The main AbiWord window ist opened to the selected size of the display.

You can also influence the dimensions of the program window through the window manager (Openbox). But when I try it, all windows of the program are affected, so a file requester window would also be maximized. Have to learn more about window managers

the only solution it's the reset button, if I disable assigns in file requester
all goes well

Hmm - sounds bad. Anybody else who has this problem?

Seems to be a problem in my opendir() implementation. Could you please download and run this test program in a shell (CYGNIX_SHOW_ASSIGNS should be activated)? If it freezes, could you redirect the output to a file - maybe stored on a USB stick or something else to prevent damage.

Thanks!

Hmm - maybe it is not a good idea to be root, even on Amiga / AmiCygnix

There is no chance for Skype on AmiCygnix, sorry. The Skype code is not open source.

Oh, then it explains why I find it slow on a PC too
I do hope it is possible to make it faster so that we can explain the X.org people that Amiga developers are better!

It's a bit more complex. The "default" code does only software rendering, but the X11 package also includes gfx card drivers, which support hardware acceleration. Unfortunately I cannot use these drivers. They are comparable to Picasso96 and they would take over the complete gfx card. I don't know, if I can port these drivers, but I don't like the fact, that I cannot work with the normal OS when working with AmiCygnix.

Second (more important) problem: The current X11 version in AmiCygnix is R6.3. The included drivers are ancient, so first I have to port a newer version like R7.7. I don't think, that I will make this step.

So the only way is to add some hardware acceleration to the normal "software rendering" code. Let's see...

Your own code???

No, no, not my code. About 95 % of the X server code is from X.org. My code is only a kind of link between AmigaOS and X server architecture.
The complete rendering of the display content is done by the X.org code. So the main task is to find the point, where to replace the code with native code. This implies to understand the X.org code, but documentation is rare.

I have a lide 110 lying here if you want to give it a spin. :) Do you also need a 200 aswell? Can see if i can dig up another one of those aswell.

Whow - this would help me a lot to fix it .
Do you need the Lide 110 back? Consider that shipping would be quite expensive and that I cannot promise, that it will work.

As both scanners are using the same backend (genesys) I only would need one of them. (I never had the oportunity to test the genesys backend so far).

Are you sure, that the path of the program is correct? And please notice, that the "-geometry" option is not supported by every program.
Here is my script I use for pidgin:
