Re: How interested in the PS3 for OS4 are you?
Just popping in
Just popping in

I don't want to comment too much on the ongoing lawsuit between Amiga Inc and Hyperion, but as this is related and now out in the public, IMO some interesting food for thought:

Most relevant parts, underlined:

Thomas Frieden: "I think what we lack is definitely a high-end system. The low end is pretty much covered, but we need some "beast" with a G5, or even better a cell... The Cell is extremely interesting, especially since Toshiba's roadmap shows a lot of promise about it in the future.

Bill McEwen: "We are working with IBM very closely on the Cell, and they have offered us some support for Cell. RJ Mical agrees with you as well about the cell."

Hans-Joerg Frieden: "Cell is certainly the way to go for the longer term future."

Bill McEwen: "OK, the next reason that I am asking is becuase we have been approached by Sony on PS3 stuff. They want to have Amiga available on that platform :)"

Hans-Joerg Frieden: "THe PS3 is a logical target"

Indeed. What left of Amiga is AmigaOS, and Hyperion and developers are tho only one who let it manifest itself these days. The previous AmigaNG hardware designs were far and current are probably (I hope not) far from the state Amiga hardware was to it's competitors in the glory days. I really hope that Hyperion becomes the boss of AmigaOS (license decisions included) and there'll be more licensed hardware designs. The best thing that can happen to Amiga these days is hardware competition. Be it ACK/Acube designs, and even Efika. More More of PASemi-like designs (the closest thing to the old-days-Amiga-spirit hardware-wise, low latency, all-in-one, easier to tailor the OS to little pool of hardware variations).

Im asking because Ive had a few requests to port WiFi Signal to OS3.5+(Its missing docky/application support), and wondered if anyone is able to test it for me?

I don't know the background, neither do i know the wording
of the contracts or any of the details involved.

Thus i can't and won't comment on the ongoing suit...still...

....don't give up on your claims to whatever ownership you have/think you have....

....don't quit improving AOS4.0; we need .2, .3, .5 etc (charge for the upgrades as you see fit)....

....don't settle with Amiga Inc. to a buy-back at any flat rate level; better a flow of money, to money that is there for a fleeting moment (in the case of AOS, the long term is much greater than anything they can/will offer (applies to anyone, because if ANYONE is interested, they have PLANS for it, that DWARF what they'll give you))....

....don't give up on AOS4.x, even though I've seen most of the horrible things that have transpired (although, there is much that is not seen, I have read probably 70% of what is public knowledge)....

im afraid there isnt a football forum, so in the trash it goes ;)

back on topic - arguments are being made before the judge at the end of the month aparently, so after that we will have a clearer picture of things.

also, how can hyperion say amiga didnt have an upgraded version of os4 available 6 months after it was available, if hyperion have not given the code to it.

Hi derfs,

I do believe it kept saying "classic", as though, Amiga Inc. were supposed to have released another version of AOS3.1/3.5/3.9 for the OCS/ECS/AGA 680x0 series of machines within 6 months of AOS4.0.

Quote:
also wasnt there a point where hyperion said it was released december last year (not when pre-release 1 came out)

it seems to me all this delaying is what hyperion wanted from the start, so that they can go for the big secured money - the 1.5million they state they would require to sort everything out.

I do not question Hyperion's integrity in the matter in the least.

They delivered a product that is most excellent, and will ONLY get better.....

It ONLY needs a wider library of more feature filled SW, and then, the SKY'S the limit!!!!

I have NO doubts.*

@samo79

Very nice! Downloaded this last night, and it works really well! Been using an older vnc client that only does fullscreen, and I wanted firefox (running on my laptop via wi-fi) and ibrowse one the same screen, and this seems to be able to do it! Also, other one wanted to open 800x600x256 color screen with 1024x768 overscan, which on straight AGA kills, even with fblit, but this proggy had no problem opening a window on my workbench! And can drop to 8 colors, apparently. Love it!
