Why not? , as soon as aros will be available for sam too, me and Stefano "Lecta" Guidetti will update or create another "how to" guide

Excellent guide...thanks! My installation went great but I'm stuck
at the last step setting up the slb boot screen. Basically followed all the instructions but still not getting the boot option for OS4.1 or Debian?
I'm using the latest slb that will dual boot OS4.1/Debian without installing parthenope...

I just re-installed Debian as well using slb but hit problems the same place as you. basically the mount command cannot find the partition. I reverted to Parthenope and all is well. Just installing KDE now.

but i thought the latest slb with Update 1 was able to dual boot..arghh

anyhow how did you install parthenope without messing up your boot partition there's a warning in the setup guide stating that the partition must have a SFS filesystem but does this include SFS/02 as well ???

Hi, even though I did not read the new guide on acube site, I also encountered problems dual booting with slb_v2 from AOS 4.1.u1. I tried because I couldn't make SAM boot into CruxPPC Linux with parthenope, so I thought SLB might be an alternative, but no luck. Still cannot boot cruxppc from HD. Never mind.. Debian works well with parthenope (SFS/00 though for bootpart).

One question acefnq !!!!!
I also installed KDE, chose KDE Displaymanager, and log in Screen is different now compared to standard Debian Install. But If I look at installed packages I still see Gnome Displaymanager there as well... If I shut down Gnome Display manager is also mentioned...

SHOULD I TURN GNOME DISPLAYMANAGER OFF ? HOW CAN I DO THAT ?

DO I HAVE TO GET RID OF ALL THE OTHER GNOME STUFF ??

Thanks for hints

UPDATE
OK got Debian dual booting no problem with the new SLB..it seems I added an extra ls at the end of the ?a1boot.conf uImage? file so redid the last portion of the config on the final page of the ACube installation guide and VOILA..here I am typing this post via IceWeasel under Debian on my Samflex and I must admit I am quite impressed with the speed
Open Office under Debian is also quite impressive as I opened up a large .doc file with no problems and more impressive was everything was properly spaced etc.

Thanks ACube

ok just to be sure the right syntax is this one:

mount /dev/sdax /mnt

there is a space after mount and after sdax, maybe in the pdf is not clear..

Don't delete GDM (Gnome Display Manager) as this may cause problems with other software installed. You can ensure KDM (KDE Display Manager) is used as default by typing

dpkg--reconfigure kdm

I have experienced a lot of segmentation faults by removing some Gnome components, although to be honest I am not sure that is the culptrit. I also got problems using MPlayer and upgrading it from Debian Multimedia repository so this time I am sticking to basics and only using VLC and ffmpeg .(apt-get install VLC ffmpeg). All seems to ok so far.

You can also theme KDE by installing
apt-get install kdmtheme.

Good luck, keep us posted how your install goes.

I have Debian running now, mainly for office use. Works fine though, installed KDE in top which speeded things up. No problems so far...

@acefnq

Thanx, just to check wether I made everything correct.

@nubechecorre

Well, I tried to install CruxPPC as well see here:

guys I found out a downside of Debian on my Sam!!..my wife is using my Sam too much now since she knows she can use and print from Open Office on Debian

quick question, I have to hit CTRL-D to continue booting up Debian each time and then it runs great....the start up screen says something like the SWAP file (my SDA7) is the wrong file type? failed CODE 8 etc....anyone know how I can fix this or is it something I can just ignore as the system runs fine once its loaded up

doesn't work ! I think it is dpkg-reconfigure kdm... this gives me some information:

... using 2 displaymanagers choose the standard one, .... configure /etc/init.d (????) ... switch of checking for second displaymanager...

I chose KDM seems to work..

DO I HAVE TO EDIT INIT.D ??? HOW DO I SWITCH CHECKING FOR SECOND DISPLAYMANAGER OFF ?

(all translated from German, so might not be the exact quote...)

Quote:

apt-get install VLC ffmpeg

comes up with "E: cannot find VLC"

Any Idea how to get a Xerox 6180 MFP to work (scanning) ? Therfore do you now the USB chipset used in this scanner ?? Already tried Sane Xerox backends...

thanks for help

Sorry you are correct dpkg-reconfigure xxx (--configure -a is used when an upgrade install has been interupted).

Also try apt-get install vlc ffmpeg (no capitals as I first indicated).

Sorry I am not sure if you can turn GDM off safely.

328gts
Once you have booted to the black screen hit
Ctrl+Alt+F1

This should bring you to a console, login as normal then type

killall gdm or kdm (whichever you are using)
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg (This should run you through some options)

gdm or kdm (whichever you are using)

Hopefully the xserver will reboot for you fixed up. There is really no need to run any virus software on our distro of Debian.

good luck folks.

Try this Open kpackage (the kde package manager.

Under menu "file" go to find package.
Search for cups.
Repeat the search and install everything cups related.
Also search for kooka and install.

hopefully your scanner will be found. If not use the printer prefs to try and find it in the list.

Cheers
