I had a strange problem with the font and Aweb...

I was changing my font system and accidently i selected the option " caching " in Prefs/Font/Caching.. I chosed save and i started Aweb..

I noticed immediatly a loose of reactivity from Aweb, so i checked the previous font option, and discovering that i choosed the " Cached " option i unchecked it as default setting..

I re-started Aweb but it still suffered of the same problem..

I re-installed Aweb but nothing i don't know why it loose its speed..

What could it be ??

Thanks

From Documentation/Fonts.doc
Quote:

The FixFonts tool can be used to rebuild the .font files to fix the
system font database in case of an accident. You normally only call it
if you are unsure if the system font database is damaged or inconsistent.

And it will rebuild the fontcache, if enabled.

The help text of the font directory cache list of the
Font prefs editor (The SHOWHINTS option should be enabled
by default) says something like

Quote:

A list of all directories of the "FONTS:" multi-assign.

A cached font directory contains a "_Cache/" subdirectory
where the system stores cache files for faster loading of
font requesters.
Toggling the checkbox does immediately create an empty "_Cache/"
subdirectory or delete an existing directory including the files
it may contain.
The files are automatically created and updated when needed,
the FixFonts command forces a complete recreation.

which clearly explains IMHO that you dont need to click "Save",
the changes happen immediately. It also should explain that
loading a font requester will be slower without a cache directory.

However, all of this has IMHO nothing to do with "noticed
immediatly a loose of reactivity from Aweb". It can only
affect the opening times of font requesters from AWeb's settings
pages. Another possible slowdown is a slower loading time
of the AWeb GUI when you either disabled the ft2.library
font cache or deleted some pre-build bitmap fonts used by
AWeb in TypeManager, but this should not affect the reactivity...

Set your settings as before and when that doesnt help,
describe your problem in more detail or use Snoopy to
find out whats slower as expected.

I still dont understand what you may want to describe,
AWeb pre-loads all its font during startup and so its IMHO
impossible to notice any difference in "reactivity" once
its up and running.

It takes more time to load a web page or a site.. Just i open the home page ( Google for me ) i notice a slow loading and i notice a refresh inside the window like the page is processed two times.. you notice a refresh passage ( i don' t know how to explain it )..

I don't understand why this doesn't happens with Ibrowse..

I also notice that Aweb use an huge ammount of CPU.. 90%..

In the GUI option i have changed the graphic and the look of the WB.. Could this be the cause of the problem ??

I have a G3 800Mhz, Radeon 7000 and 512Mbram..

First don't you think you'll get much more answers on the AWeb ML instead ?

Second did you do something on your *AWEB* cache lately ? Try to squeeze it completly an dtry again.
The "two times" refresh might be caused by the "fast answer" option (see the doc for correct configuration, depending on your connection speed). It can also be caused by your image decoder configuration, progessive array display option, the size of the cache, etc.

BTW you didn't even provided the AWeb version you are using, knowing it could help answering you because many bugs was fixed during versions updates (some were related to display).

Back to a quiet home... At last

At least i discovered that it wasn't a problem of font, but it was a backdrop image set in the gui setting..

It was too big and gave me this kind of problem.. it also gave me problem with DVPlayer while watching a dvx...

Now it's ok
