AmiDVD burns twice as fast as Frying Pan. But it can only have 1 source at a time, so I cant backup my sys: and my coding: partition onto the same disc using AmiDVD. Is there a trick I can use to get around this? I tried assigning sys: and coding: to one assign, but that didnt work..

it may work with a link. in an empty drawer create separate links to each of your partition you want to backup. then just ise that drawer as source. it should work.

funny, I was going to back up my sys last night but didn't get around to it...
if I was you I'd tar up DH0 first and have the archive written to the other dir you want backed up. Dos command copy won't copy softlinks so I don't see how AmiDVD would either...
One thing I used to do with tar was specify the -h option that converts all the softlink to there actual corresponding real files... in some cases it made replacing and moving various installations around without worrying about the dreaded 'can't copy error'

- Supports soft links by resolving them, but doesn't check for circular links, for example if you have a soft link dh0:foo/bar pointing to dh0: and select dh0:foo as source it will add bar, bar/foo/bar, bar/foo/bar/foo/bar, ... to the image until it runs out of memory. - Doesn't ignore broken soft links, if there is one the image creation stops.
ah, so resolving them means to expand them to the actual physical file... I guess it must add this to the calculation of overall size... I would hope anyway

I have used two partitions where I store photos, one is 4.5Gb and the other is 4.6Gb.
I created a directory "AmiDVD_Soft" in Ram: I used "makelink" from OS4Depot to create two links in there, one to each of my Photo volumes. If I go into AmiDVD, and select Ram:AmiDVD_Soft as the source, AmiDVD resolves the size as 9,308 MB, which I presume is 9.1Gb. I can then select and remove directories to reduce the size of the image to be written.
Although, I haven't actually burnt this to a disk, I can't see any reason why AmiDVD wouldn't burn this correctly.
The assigns are actually for doing a "live" backup of the whole system (programs: and work: are applications and data partitions I linked into sys: and added assigns to s:s-s) After the completing the backup I would have removed the assign, unfortunately ther'es some problem with links inside the linked partitions amidvd got stuck on resolving them. Just copying the sys:+programs:+work: into one location worked fine at some point for me, but I thought can skip the copy. Will do another attempt soon.
