@Spectre660
Thanks for the suggestion. I will try it once I get a DVD-drive installed as well. :)
So, if I have HD in port 1, HD in port 2, DVD in port 3 (just an example), it will be:
nvsetvar sii3114ide?conf=1120
Is that correct?
Now, this is probably a stupid question, but if I use the setup like it is now.. 1 HD connected to internal SATA, 1 HD connected to PCI card, will the one connected to PCI card use DMA and the other one PIO? I'm not very familiar with all this, but one does not learn without asking. :D

It works fine if:
- Main HD is connected to the internal SATA port on the SAM - Secondary HD connected to the SATA PCI card
But can't boot from PCI for some reason. Tried adjusting boot settings in UBOOT (boot from 3114 HD I think it was).
Any ideas? :)

Received the card today and installed it. It boots up to the AmigaOS 4.1 boot-screen, loads for a while and then the Hyperion insert disk screen appears. :(

Looking forward to hear how it goes with the fan! I've been considering buying one myself and if it works well in your setup, I'll probably order one. :)

Many thanks for the helpful information guys. :) Have now ordered a SATA controller (SiI3114). Do you think the difference will be quite noticeable from using the on-board SATA?

Hello,
In the Sam460ex manual it says:
"How to enable DMA for SATA devices?
Check the documentation which comes with the operating system on how to enable DMA for SATA devices. By default, all devices are set to PIO mode (slow)."
I'm using the on-board SATA, not through a HD-controller in the PCI slot.
I suspect my setup is set to PIO. Anyone knows how to enable DMA? :)
Thanks in advance.

Connect 3.5 IDE HD to Sam460ex

I have some old Amiga HD's, for example the main one I used many years ago for an Amiga 1200. It is 3.5 IDE.
What is the best way to connect this to a Sam460ex?
I was thinking an external HDD cabinet with USB 2 could work? If yes, will AmigaOS 4 be able to read the HDD once connected?
Thanks in advance for suggestions. :) Would be great to back up some of that old data before the HDD stops working (it might have, but hopefully not).

I know this is a thread about AmigaOne Micro vs Sam460, but...
Watched a video of E-UAE running on X5000. What a world of difference! I think this video was from Kas1e from this forum and it showed several E-UAE instances running at the same time with games and demos, all smoothly.
Is the difference in speed so big between the X5000 and Sam460ex?
I like the Odyssey browser, as it works with most sites I visit, but it can be a bit slow due to my hardware. Is web browsing much faster on the X5000? :)

Noticed this file was uploaded recently on OS4Depot:
Portable Bioware's Infinity Engine
Quote:
"GemRB (Game engine made with pre-Rendered Background) is a portable open-source implementation of Bioware's Infinity Engine.
It was written to support pseudo-3D role playing games based on the Dungeons & Dragons ruleset (Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series, Planescape: Torment). It should run on GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, OS X, possibly other UNIX derivatives and more. It is licensed under the GPL."
Have any of you tried it and if yes, did it work? Do you think Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale will run ok on a Sam460?
Thanks in advance. :)

I have not tried Napalm before, but love RTS-games in general. Is it free to download or is it perhaps for sale somewhere?
