Re: SAM440EP and RX550 gfx card
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

@Chris

The Sam440ep-Flex is not really worth equipping with a Radeon RX or HD graphics card. Most games that require OpenGL ES–level graphics do not run at a playable speed, even when the original CPU requirement was only a 166 MHz PowerPC processor. At the same time, a large portion of games that rely on MiniGL stop working altogether.

While this setup can be experimented with, the required software is expensive enough that the overall experience ends up being a major disappointment. I ended up reinstalling a Radeon 9250 graphics card in my Sam440ep-Flex system.

AmigaOS developers should actively support the NetSurf web browser project, as it represents one of the most realistic and sustainable options for keeping modern web access alive on classic and hobbyist computing platforms.

Firstly, maintaining a fully modern web browser is an enormous challenge for a small development team. Browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, and Safari are maintained by hundreds of engineers and rely on massive codebases that require constant updates to keep pace with evolving web standards. For a small or volunteer-based team, such as the AmigaOS community, building or maintaining a comparable browser from scratch is simply not feasible. Supporting an existing lightweight open-source project like NetSurf makes far more sense.

Secondly, NetSurf is designed to be efficient and lightweight, unlike mainstream browsers that assume modern hardware with gigabytes of RAM and fast CPUs. Amiga computers, both classic and NG systems, typically operate with limited memory and processing power. NetSurf’s modest resource requirements align perfectly with the constraints of AmigaOS hardware, ensuring acceptable performance and responsiveness even on older systems.

It is true that NetSurf is not yet as feature-rich or fully compatible with all modern web technologies as the major browsers. However, it is steadily improving. The project continues to evolve, with active development and growing standards support. Each release brings better rendering accuracy, improved JavaScript handling, and enhanced usability. By joining forces with the NetSurf team, AmigaOS developers can help accelerate this progress and tailor it to the unique needs of the Amiga community.

In addition, contributing to NetSurf’s development would allow the AmigaOS community to influence its direction, for example by ensuring better integration with AmigaOS GUI systems, file handling, and custom graphics libraries. Such collaboration would also strengthen AmigaOS’s visibility in the wider open-source world, showing that the platform remains alive and relevant.

Finally, relying on and supporting NetSurf would foster collaboration instead of fragmentation. Instead of multiple Amiga developers working on separate, incomplete browsers, pooling resources toward a single capable and efficient project increases the chances of long-term success and usable results.

In short, supporting the NetSurf project is a practical, community-minded, and forward-looking decision. It ensures that AmigaOS users can continue to access the modern web within the limitations of their beloved machines, while helping an open, evolving browser become even better.

https://lookbehindyou.de/produkt/diesiedler2amiga/

After nearly 30 years, the classic city-building strategy game The Settlers II is finally coming to the Amiga with an officially licensed, fully optimized release from Ubisoft. The Gold Edition features four civilizations, 30+ professions, expansive campaigns, and richly detailed environments.

Available in Digital (€29.90), Box (€49.90), and limited Collector’s Edition (€99.90). Pre-orders before September 18, 2025 include an art print and five bonus maps.

System Requirements – 68k (Min): Amiga AGA, 68040 @ 40 MHz, 32 MB RAM, OS 3.1, AHI 4.18, 600 MB HDD. PPC (Min): PPC-Amiga, 603e @ 175 MHz, 32 MB RAM, OS 3.1+WarpUP or OS 4.1, AHI, 500 MB HDD.

It would also be great if Heretic II became available digitally — I’ve bought pretty much every Amiga release in recent years except that one.

@jabirulo

None of those means that it requires GLES. In MorphOS it works with TinyGL, so it should work with OS4's MiniGL

@smarkusg Why? Game itself doesn't require Open GLES.

I get "Error: - I_InitScreen: Failed to create OpenGL contextLIBGL"

This is Sam Flex with OS4.1FE and Radeon 9250

PS. Updated system, and got a utterly stupid filerequester from AEON update, how do I get rid of it?

Does it require OpenGL ES? Morph OS version does not have a such requirement.

Generally Amiga OS is hobby OS. I use Netsurf 99% of time as it best compromise of speed, stability and compatibility. If I need to do something serious, I just use my Win machine.

Sam 440ep Flex with Radeon HD some experiences
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

It works stably enough, at least for me.

However, a soft reset is OK, but a hard reset requires a 30-second power-off before it will boot again. The same issue occurs with the power switch: if it is turned off and then turned on after 10 seconds, it doesn't boot or even send a signal to the monitor.

Some Warp3D Nova games are playable, while others are not.

My Radeon HD 9850 seems to work OK, but it doesn't display a picture. It boots, but there is no picture. I have DVI, HDMI, and Mini DP ports. Is it possible that the Mini DP is the active port? Is there no way to change that?

The Sam 440ep seems to have a problem with some SSD hard drives. Those with the Kodak brand don't work.

My conclusion is that some reason some SSD hard drives just doesn't work with Sam 440ep Flex.

Mounting them end up to time out.

@pjs

Thanks, but no. This is Flex version and it has a 550W PSU.

Mechanical drives seems to work, but not SSD. It also has Radeon HD7750 graphics cards, so if there is not enough juice, I ques it would freeze first.

Sam 440ep multiple hard drives

Not too shy to talk

Hi,

I have a 3 hard drives and DVD drive connected to sata ports.

Problem is that SSD drives that I have gives time out and doesn't appear to Hd install utility. Mounter tells time out. I have tested with two SSD drives and one mechanical which seems to work righ a way.

BUT if I just keep it connected it might just appear as drive and after that it just works.

Any ideas? I tried to find if there is something for a uboot shell?

I'm trying to buy Warp3D SI. When I add it to basket, choose check out, get that I don't have a balance and then mail.

I get mail which wants me to buy these :

RDHDSAM46 RadeonHD V5 Driver (Sam460) 40.00
W3DRHDSI1 Warp3D RadeonHD Southern Islands 24.16
PROCESSFEE Transaction Processing Fee 2.80

No matter what I do it always adds that Radeon HD V5 driver to it.

I have a Radeon HD 2.2 driver installed, it should be just fine with Warp 3D Southern Islands.

OR I could add blacne to my AmiStore accout, but I cant find how?

@kas1e

Thanks.

Radeon HD7750 does work with Radeon HD driver. It also works with Sam 440ep Flex with bride adapter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWPsmwVkjsM

First I answer my own questio, Warp 3D SI means Warp 3D Southern Islands and it is available from A-EON Amistore.

My RadeonHD.chip in Kickstart folder is version 2.22

Does that mean it would work with Warp3D SI, but Nova Bridge would require buy Enhancer 2.2 to get version 3.X??

@rjd324

thanks, but why I would need Nova Bridge and does it even work with this setup? As there is no Radeon HD 5.x drivers which works with it?

And still, what is Ward 3D SI and how can I get it? I do know how I can get Nova Bridge.

Is this Warp 3D SI https://github.com/ptitSeb/gl4es
