Sam 440ep Flex with Radeon HD some experiences
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

It works stably enough, at least for me.

However, a soft reset is OK, but a hard reset requires a 30-second power-off before it will boot again. The same issue occurs with the power switch: if it is turned off and then turned on after 10 seconds, it doesn't boot or even send a signal to the monitor.

Some Warp3D Nova games are playable, while others are not.

My Radeon HD 9850 seems to work OK, but it doesn't display a picture. It boots, but there is no picture. I have DVI, HDMI, and Mini DP ports. Is it possible that the Mini DP is the active port? Is there no way to change that?

The Sam 440ep seems to have a problem with some SSD hard drives. Those with the Kodak brand don't work.

My conclusion is that some reason some SSD hard drives just doesn't work with Sam 440ep Flex.

Mounting them end up to time out.

@pjs

Thanks, but no. This is Flex version and it has a 550W PSU.

Mechanical drives seems to work, but not SSD. It also has Radeon HD7750 graphics cards, so if there is not enough juice, I ques it would freeze first.

Sam 440ep multiple hard drives

Hi,

I have a 3 hard drives and DVD drive connected to sata ports.

Problem is that SSD drives that I have gives time out and doesn't appear to Hd install utility. Mounter tells time out. I have tested with two SSD drives and one mechanical which seems to work righ a way.

BUT if I just keep it connected it might just appear as drive and after that it just works.

Any ideas? I tried to find if there is something for a uboot shell?

I'm trying to buy Warp3D SI. When I add it to basket, choose check out, get that I don't have a balance and then mail.

I get mail which wants me to buy these :

RDHDSAM46 RadeonHD V5 Driver (Sam460) 40.00
W3DRHDSI1 Warp3D RadeonHD Southern Islands 24.16
PROCESSFEE Transaction Processing Fee 2.80

No matter what I do it always adds that Radeon HD V5 driver to it.

I have a Radeon HD 2.2 driver installed, it should be just fine with Warp 3D Southern Islands.

OR I could add blacne to my AmiStore accout, but I cant find how?

@kas1e

Thanks.

Radeon HD7750 does work with Radeon HD driver. It also works with Sam 440ep Flex with bride adapter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWPsmwVkjsM

First I answer my own questio, Warp 3D SI means Warp 3D Southern Islands and it is available from A-EON Amistore.

My RadeonHD.chip in Kickstart folder is version 2.22

Does that mean it would work with Warp3D SI, but Nova Bridge would require buy Enhancer 2.2 to get version 3.X??

@rjd324

thanks, but why I would need Nova Bridge and does it even work with this setup? As there is no Radeon HD 5.x drivers which works with it?

And still, what is Ward 3D SI and how can I get it? I do know how I can get Nova Bridge.

Is this Warp 3D SI https://github.com/ptitSeb/gl4es

Steps to Required to make Radeon HD 7XXX work.

1. Update UBoot. UBoot 1.3.1g 04-Dec-2020 updater.
2. Get transparent PCI-PCIe bridge, with a P17C9X chip. It supports 66mhz bus.
3. Get PCIe x1 - PCIe x16 riser adapter.
4. Get compatible Radeon HD card.
5. Get A-EON's Enhancer Software 2.2 and install it.
6. Add text MODULE Kickstart/RadeonHD.chip to SYS:Kickstart/kicklayout file, just after MODULE Kickstrat/PCIGraphics.card.
7. Install Hardware, it just should work now.

NOTE. Brige card with PEX 8111 chip worked without a problems. It said it shouldn't work with Flex. https://youtu.be/VqkGFlqje6o

@Spectre660

Nova Bridge is Warp3D support for a Radeon HD cards? It would make all old games work.

But before I buy it, I would like to test this more. I need games that support Warp3D Nova if I have figured it correctly?

Club 3D Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition CGAX-7772C does work.

Now I need to test it. I do have a Enhancer Plus for OS4 installed, but none of old games used to work Radeon 9250 does not work.

I renanamed MiniGL.library as I thought it might be a problem and it doesn't work Radeon HD 7770 any way, but that didn't fix problem.

What else I need to install / delete to make Enhancer Plus 3D drivers to work? I ques I need to download correct versions of games, to make them support:

Open GL ES 2.0 v1.12
Warp3D Nova v1.34

What would be good way to test performance?

@joerg

I know that Radeon HD 4800 does not have a 3D drivers.

Point was a two different PCI to PCIe bridges and speed difference between them.

I buy these cards as a secondhand from Finland, so I buy what is available. It is little limited as there are only 5 000 000 million people here.

I made a short video with two different PCI2PCIe adapters and Radeon HD4800.

https://youtu.be/VqkGFlqje6o

[EDIT] Sorry wrong video, correct video replaced.

Sorry bad quality,

with

First adapter read is 21mb/s and write 15mb/s
second adapter read is 28mb/s and write 39mb/s

Second adapter (or adapters) is ones found here

https://www-amigaportal-cz.translate.g ... x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp

My actual PCIe 16x adapter is little diffent could it matter?

About a Radon HD 7850, I think it crash fatally, caps lock light doesn't work after screen gets dark.

@Hypex

Thanks! I actually found the first article, but I didn't read it carefully enough.

Radeon HD card is R7850 Twin Frozr 2G5D/OC. Checking serial output is not a problem, but could it actually help and make card working?

Monday I'll get Radeon HD 7770 card. It is Club 3D Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition.

Here https://youtu.be/OV70Kg6jDBc

Graphics card and PCIe adapter got bot their own 6 pin power connector connected.

Is there a proof that any one has actually get those cards work with Sam 440ep Flex?

Question is, can I get Radeon HD 77XX - 79XX card work with this HW and SW? Or Am I spending money and time without a possibility to succes?

I have a "Enhancer Software, PowerPC version 4.X", should these drivers work with Sam 440EP Flex?

Steps to add PCIe GFX card to Sam 440ep Flex

Need to have HW :

1. Sam440ep-flex PCI 66 MHz
2. PCI-PCIe bridge ( second photo in paragraph 3.1 - this is with chip P17C9X. You need no additional power here, power is drawn from PCI slot.
3. PCIe x1 -> x16 powered riser (common name on ebay is Powered USB3.0 GPU Riser Extender or mining rig adapter ) - see photo three in the same paragraph. You have to connect this adapter to power.
4. Suitable Radeon card.

What to do BEFORE Radeon HD and other HW install.

1 - Install Enhancer software.
2 - update it.
3 - add following text to Kicklayout file : MODULE Kickstart/RadeonHD.chip
4 - Turn OFF Amiga
5 - Plug Radeon HD and bridges.
6 - Boot machine.

@joerg

Thanks! That did a trick.

Result wasn't big success any way.

Radeon HD 7850 card didn't work. After kickstart screen just got black and "no signal". Tested both DVI and HDMI connectors.

Radeon HD 4850 card worked, but it wasn't what I wanted and also noticed that restarting machine with was a problem. Getting back to OS after restart required multiple attempts. Screen just got black, no UBoot or kickstart loading texts. Few times reset worked, but 8 of 10 reboots required lots of patience.

It might be a loose connector PCIe 1x or something else, but troubles was not worth of it, so I restored Radeon 9250 card.

I left MODULE KICKSTART/RadeonHD.chip text to kicklayout file, I quest it doesn't do any harm? Maybe one day I got another Radeon HD card to test.

EDIT

These cards are currently available for a very little money.
