@tonyw
"trying to use two DIMMs is bound to fail. The Articia bus drivers just are not up to it."
False. I have 2 GB of ram in my XE G4 @ 1.26GHz ! (2x1 GB)
You simply all forgot that the XE was meant to be used SERVER Ram, not ordinary Desktop Ram :) (OK that ram is expensive, and was VERY expensive in 2002...)
but pour it with ECC fully buffered sticks and max it to 2 GB like me. your G4 will rewards you.
^^)

why not just send a "ping" to a server you know and wait a little time for an answer ? if network is up you will get a ping back from the site, if network is down you will get an instant error.

@alfkil regarding pb with libpng.so, verify that it point to libpng12.so and NOT to libpng16.so (that version is installed by fontconfig for fontconfig use and could be wrongly linked to libpng.so)

@broadblues
what I can say is that info and format have no problems to report the right 3760 GB size of the partition.

SFS2 still unable to format big partitions ???

As per its documentation, SFS2 support really BIG partitions (way bigger than 2 TB).
per example, a 3 TB disk with a 2048 GB SFS2 partition is formated fine by both SFSFormat and sys:system/format.
But the same 3 TB drive with a full 2760 GB SFS2 partition is formated by the same softs as... 730 GB !
and a 4 TB disk with a full 3726 GB SFS2 partition is shrink-formated by the same as... 1678 GB !
for a filesystem meant to cope with "petabytes" partitions (perhaps I exagerate a little ;)) is disapointing at least :(
so, questions to the maintainer of SFS2 : - what's the problem ? - will an updated sfsformat will suffice to have that BIG partitions (FULL SIZE 3 and 4 TB disks partitions) formated to the right size ? - where to find the SFS2 sources to work on it ?

well, for functionning properly the A3000 and T models needs to have at least 1 MB chip ram AND 1 MB fast ram installed !

"shows No leakage from the battery" he said... sorry but I see that the battery HAS LEAKED on his photograph. the green traces wouldn't be there in it was true. poor buyer hope that the 4000 still function (but I have a doubt for the clock circuitry ...at least).

@olsen I can say that the drive is killed as I tryied a low level format on a 1GB HD (a long time ago, when 1GB HDs costed a small fortume : 1996) and suffered a power loss when I could power back my Amiga the HD was electricaly OK but showed 0 Block, 0 sectors, 0 tracks and I never could use it since : impossible to low level format it again. and I tryied a lot of time with all the formating software I could find... so it's not a myth at all, it's reality. BTW, you're right, it was a scsi drive.
