@joerg

Very very great big THANKS ! This new version (doduo) is better than the old one. Like you said it's slow debug version so it's very slow. But at least it works !

@joerg

I feel a little bit embarrassed. We don't need a new FS because SFS has everything. It's fast, journaling and multiuser. How big task it would be to add multiuser into the OS ? (I'm curious only.) Not too big or very big ?

@orgin

Now the post #56 sound better. Have you asked Hyperion already what they think ? Do you have a volunteer already who could write that license ?

@+all
I want one clarification ? That thread title is "Workbench enhancement" but people are talking enhancing the whole OS. So is it WB only or the whole OS you want to enhance ?

I don't see problem that people have to download and install third party commodities or installing them from a Contrib drawer on an OS CD. But if you want such code to integrated into the OS4 you will need help from OS4 devs themselves. You might need access to the source code of some OS4 libraries. It's different if everything we have in mind is possible to implement as plugins f.ex. And orgin's idea is only to make a license to let Hyperion to include those plugins in the OS installer. But everything is not possible to implement that way.

I don't want to make any promise but I might be able to help in this community open source project.

Some computer programming laws:

Every program is outdated when it's run the first time.

Every program will cost more and takes more time.

If a program is useful, you must replace it for some reason.

If a program is useless, you must get it documented.

Every program will expand that way, it will use all the RAM you have.

Price/Value of every program is related to it's weight in printed form.

Every program will become more complicated, until a programmer doesn't have skills to continue any more.

If the first test run works perfectly, any further runs won't work ever again.

When a program has been in use at least six months, the worst bug is found.

If an input device is designed to prevent all erroneous input, some clever fool will find a way, how to insert erroneous data anyway.

The system will crash only, when a system administrator is in vacation.

Swearing is the only language, which every programmer knows perfectly.

pFTP starts here (A1G3) in less than 2 secs. For example AissAnimShow starts in an eye blink. (TBimages are in sys: which is FFS2. But those programs are on both SFS/FFS2 partitions.)

with a license that would let Hyperion use the code in OS4

Did you start this thread alone or are you speaking for all OS4 devs ? Are OS4 devs willing to use an open source code in a closed source OS ? Who's going to write necessary license ? (I'm not going to write anything complicated myself especially in foreign language.) What if I want to use my code in any other projects too ? I don't want to get connected/involved to/in any court cases or any other problems ! Are there any future for OS4 anyway ?

You said it yourself "might some day be incorporated", you didn't say "will be incorporated immediately". At least people can use my software already. I didn't write it all so people can just ignore it. And if you want anything from me you can always try to ask in PM.

I'm keeping the source code of YAD myself at the moment but I can change the "license" at any time, if I want. (The executable is freeware at the moment. But I can change that too, if I want.)

At first I thought it was annoying that dockies was always in the main dock. But then I got a bright idea. I desided to reserve main dock for app dockies alone because I can create as many new docks for static icons as I want. Not a problem at all.

Quite big list that abalabans list.

Re: OSD in OS4?

I'm using IIntuition->LockScreenList() in ShowMsg to find the topmost screen. And I'm using a normal Intuition window. I've tested it and it opens a window on non-public screens too. But it might leave some trash on some screens. But at least the requester/window is shown. (Colours might be wrong/strange.) No need to force anything.

I uploaded a new version of ShowMsg to os4depot. It has some new command line options. For example there's TOPMOST option to show a requester on a top most screen.
