Re: OWB 3.11

Home away from home

woah!

3.11 fix my problem with all previus OWBs (i was have slowindowns becouse of AISS toolbar before, so, must to remove it). But 3.11 runs in 1 second with toolbar (DACA and OS4 ones, with AISS still these slowingdowns), etc right now. Also icons looks more professional. The new (?) mouse pointer when i can press on link looks good too.

The only one question, how i can choice fonts which i want to use ? Becouse i see in readme somethink like "added font selection", but cant found where.

@TSK

Little misunderstoods, but i mean SFS00 and sfs02.

Resized Image

DH3 = mos_sys:
DH4 = mos_work:

Using in action

SFS00 are usable (read/write) from boch systems, but i can't for example read/write SFS02 on mos. But for sure with SFS00 on aos, i also can use it from Mos.

@TSK

I can easyly read/write SFS partitions of Morphos under Aos4 (boch on peg2). But from other side, on Morphos i can read not all SFS parittion (if i remember corectlu can sfs/2 or sfs/3 and can't sfs/5 or sfs/6).

For example i download somethink by aos4 owb just to morphos work partition, then reboot to morphos, unpack/run/etc.

@samo79

Its normal that i cant resize nowined less than after startup ? (i.e. i can resize it more, but cant resize it less. For me at startup it looks a bit big by X.). Not so good to grab almost all the screen for it :)

Some feadbacks from me :)

1. for sure need add somethink like navigate by keyboard. I mean cursor, which can be moved by UP/DOWN and go into directory or run file by ENTER key. Maybe add somethink like "." and ".." for easy navigate (i know, many of amigans think that its bad, becouse dos/windows blablab, but for sure, its not windowses features, its user friendly ones).

2. somethink which will be allos easy back to previos directory. For dopus4 it was pressing on border of current window, for latest FileMater its some configurable key. Somethink like back to previous directory by pressing left mouse button will be alot speedup usage/work with filler.

3. drag and drop support.
I read that some problems with it (somethink cant work with it?). If author in interest to make powerfull tool in end, need to add it for sure somehow.

4. it is possible to configure filler, to have dopus4 looks (2 windowses and just works beetwen). Copies/movies/delete files/dirs with progress status and so on.

5. When you press button up to directory back, its stop on root of filesystem. But for sure, it must be up to show all partitions, devices, etc (like again, with dopus4,filemaster and any others).

The project seems very interesting at this moment, but for sure must be put many works inside to make it good. For me programm are very stable at moment.

@joerg

Yep! "Assign TBImages:" did the trick! OWB starts for 1 second now (but without AISS of course..) What can be wrong with AISS then ?

@rogue
yep, installed updates from hyperion site right after install of aos.

@joerg
my SYSTEM: are FFS with 1024 blocks. Tryed as you said: add buffer TBImages: 10000, and nothink (the same). I also created tested parition with 512 blocks (JFS, SFS, does not matter) in all cases are the same.

Maybe system are must be 512 in any case ? Or for example, maybe need try to setup AISS not to system: but to the same test parition ?

@spotUP

Already have 512 blocks (512 blocks must be for 'system' partition, or for partition on which i have unpacked owb?). But you are right about AISS i think .. maybe need install new one or older one

@TSK

Yep. But what problem can be ? Some bad WB settings ? I setup nothinks for WB expectually if i remember right. I just install necessary libs, etc. Maybe need remove somethink from 'kickstart' modules.. dunno in which way i can try to move .. For me it's just looks that somethink 'works slow' for some rendering stuff. Like bad cairo lib , or somethink kind of this. Which libs are necessary for OWB and which versions of it you have (if you have some time for check) ?

ps. peg2 for you ?

OWB on Pegasos2 (slow down bug?)
Home away from home

Hi all. Just want to open this topic related to all Pegasos2 / aos4.1 users.

As we all know, latest OWB run's pretty fast over aos4.1. But some problems still occur with it on pegasos2. It's for sure can be problem of OS itself (porting mistakes), or problem of bad installation (some wrong settings for WB), but maybe OWB itself as well (but basically not, becouse as i know OWB runs fast on every aos4.1, exept peg2 version).

So, here is video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhB3kJQKBzU

You can detect, that OWB bring window in one second. But content loading happenes for 15-18 seconds.

Why i think that is can be problem of OS ? Becouse when i do "iconify", and then bring owb from icon back, it's again got 15 seconds for loading context. You can also detect on video (for first it just run, for second iconify - slow context loading are the same).

Maybe some problems with cairo port ? or with some rendering stuff ? Dunno, but for sure author of OWB and aos4.1 devel must to know about it.

Yep, status bar are very need it (also as support of downloading many files on one time). Like morphos's OWB, or like aros's OWB.

Also, it is possible add to context menu "open link in new tab" ?

Yesterday i think that lockup was for me becouse i swith to other apps, but test it today again, and for sure, Celestia lockup me on Demo (right on moment when start to draw some diagram stuff). Somethink around 2-3 minuts after begining.

@TSK

I use 16bit mode (i also tried 8bit and 32bit, but setup said that only 16bit are possible). But if for you its much slower, then how you use it ? (i mean in real life its unpossible then with all these slowdowns). For sure need to help author to found solution to make all of this works faster.. But i think CygnusEd already have somethink in mind about ?:)

Re: OWB 3.9

@salass00

I use SFS02 with blocksize=1024 and buffers=600 on my work partition. For System partition i have DOS07 with the same params (blocksize=1024 and buffers are 600).

About second one:
Quote:

6.RAM Disk:> idetool -u peg2ide.device 0
-------------------Unit 0 information------------------------
Flags : $000001A5 - present, supports DMA, ATA, supports acoustic mgmt, supports cache flush, interrupts used,
Xfer mode : best pio 12 (PIO 4, 16 MB/s) / best dma 69 (UDMA 5, 100 MB/s) / current 69 (UDMA 5, 100 MB/s)
Total blocks : 39179952
Blocksize : 512
Power mode : 2 / idle (ready for operation)
IO1 / IO2 / BMCR @ : $1000 / $100E / $1020

6.RAM Disk:>

ps. i create a tested JFS partion (512 blocksize, 600 buffers), then try to run owb from it - the same. I.e. window of owb bringing up for one second. And, this empty window are empty for 15 seconds. And only after 15 seconds i have welcome page and url string. I.e. like somethink (not hdd) slowdown it ,. But as i see on video (this one: http://www.exec.pl/screencast/sodipodi.avi). OWB runs and ready to use for 1 second. Nothink like long-waiting empty window.

After owb is loading, all works fast/etc. Tabs open fast, not problems at all. Only for first start.

ps2. more about: if i do iconify, and bring it back - its got again 15 second ! i.e. its bringing on screen with empty owb window again, and after 15 second it show the data. Like iconify = first start.

Somethink workbench setup realted ? maybe some options must be disabled or enabled ?

Just saw a video from some guy where OWB3.9 runs about 1-2 seconds. On my system it's got always 15-20 seconds for run. Any idea what can be wrong ?

Re: AmiCygnix startup wait?

@cygnusEd
must to add, that is only one minus about the AmyCygnix (slow windows moving/resizing). I like clipboard support beetwen. Good that sound/networks works just after installation, and configure gui-window are good too (not need to boring about deeply X boredom).

Maybe it possible to rewrite video driver or somehow speedup these windowses lags, to make it works like os4 native ones windowses ?

Exept it, software itself works pretty stable. I have no grims for all 2 days when i play with it. But for sure, when you can't move the window fast, it's a bit 'stop' you from every day usage (but picture viewers are very good :) ).

ps. Did you think about compiling your porting stuff, like os4 native (with inside the binary all emulation layer (or spliit somehow on shared libs) ) and make it works like 'native' programm (i.e. os4 windowses, etc) ). ? I mean to make in end somethink like : user press on icon, and programm are runs without X (kind of, just run necessary parts of X , but 'transparency' for end user (i.e. like it's not), i.e. all do inside the binary ?) , as a aos4 window (screen) ? For sure it must speed up a lot app itself (?)
