Re: Do we have fast, accelerated, bug-free, supporting scaling SNES emulator ?

@samo79

Iin the sdl2 version this should be easy to do.

I am trying to make my own version of the older snes9x version but more for older machines.
I've managed to get the cpu consumption down quite nicely (I'm using QEMU emulation and a graphics card without any sm502 acceleration). Mainly thanks to @Javier who provides his versions of the programs with the source code he has improved and it is a good learning experience - many thanks !!!!.

This is not meant to be a competition for @HunoPPC and @Olle's versions - but a simple version for QEMU users.

@Maijestro
I'm still convinced that @HunoPPC's port is slow.
You can see the CPU consumption of the x5000 in the uploaded videos. Close to 50-70%.
X5000 is not a slow machine.
This is great work @HunoPPC and a nice version but not for weaker machines. For the X5000 for sure.

I hope @Olle's will complete the work on the older version.
Many platforms still use older versions of snes9x because they are faster.
I don't know how @HunoPPC's version will work on A1222+/Tabor. Surely there will be a faster older version of snes9x for that machine.

You can see on the video the SDL2 version how much CPU it eats.
Sound not recorded but probably the same problem.

@Mufa also uses a window for emulation. Possibly it will be scaled wrong that's why there are black bars.

@MamePPCA1

Here are the values I use.

z3mem-size=256
gfxcard_type=ZorroIII
gfxcard_size=8

I've been playing Project Quest lately - no graphics card required. But maybe you'll like it and add it to your list

edit 7.01.2024

After checking @MamePPCA1's configuration
should be z3mem_size=256
I misspelled sorry

@MamePPCA1

Check maybe the configuration that @Maijestro gave you.
See from which Amiga you have the kickstart.

"E-UAE_1.0.0_AmigaOS4" is a generic term. See os4depot after typing UAE.
Try this one to get your UAEGFX "e-uae-sdl - Classic Amiga Emulation (JIT + SDLGFX driver)" to work.
You have to install probably "Picasso96" for AOS3.9. I don't use/have not used 3.9 so I'm not 100% sure if it's already there.

The e-uae are also available in the RunInUAE package. Here the link
https://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=110393.
@kas1e also prepared his compilation which were fast....

But...
To start with, it's best to try one configuracfia with e-uae-sdl for peace of mind.
Back up your current config with a clean config file.
Add to it floppy0= with workbench floppy disk.
Add options that interest you, cpu ram ...
Check one by one what changes and what does not by running the emulation.
Gradually remove and correct the different values.
You are sure to get the system you need.
In addition, you will have more satisfaction than using ready-made solutions.

If you have any problems, post them on the forum - there are certainly better people than me here and they will certainly help you too.

I saw in your video that you use a special E-Uae version G4, this is based on SDL2 or SDL12 Compat?

Are you still working on the port?

These are old files. They run on qemu pegasos g4 maybe the names are misleading.
I managed to recover some of them after data loss.
It does not compile anything with uae. There are no new versions of e-uae under AOS4.
The only news I saw on abime.net is that someone is trying to combine E-UAE-PPC-JIT with PUAE.
But I haven't checked that.

@MamePPCA1

From what I noticed you want to emulate A4000.
You did not write exactly which Amiga you want to emulate.
If you are using "rom.key" it is possible that you are using the kickstart from "Amiga Forever" but there is no amiga/kickstart model.

Definitely change this

cpu_speed=real to cpu_speed=max

If you want to emulate A4000 from what I remember z3mem will be used as FAST memory.
You can set z3mem_size=128. From what I remember FAST memory must be set to 0.

UAEGFX settings are here gfxcard_size=
You did not write which version of E-UAE you are using (SDL,amigfx...old git
LiveForIt) and you don't know if it will work for you

Don't set JIT if you want to use it only for games. You have a powerful X5000 machine.
If the game works you can always add to the configuration as described by Maijestro and see if everything will work fine.

I hope my information will help you

EDIT:
Here you have my system boot and configuration.
I'm using E-UAE SDL on QEMU PPC AOS 3.2 (the delay in booting is due to the fact that I'm using AOS 3.2, for you it will be faster on AOS 3.9)

@AmigaOldskooler
Thanks for the summaries !

I just have a small correction.

In the section about the new release of Qemu 8.2 there is only information about Pegasos 2 and AmigaOne XE machines. Information about Sam460ex was missing. This emulation of the machine in Qemu is the oldest on which you can run AmigaOS 4.1. It is further developed. Recently there is even work in progress to make it run faster. The maintainer of all three machines in Qemu is Zoltan Balaton.

Re: MPlayer 1.5 released!

Not too shy to talk

@ktadd

Thank you for your thorough check.

If you version this at you correctly everything should be simple to find where the cause of the problem lies. The version that is posted on os4depot has been marked as fully working and tested.
As you can see, it has problems. Releasing the RC version for general access proved to be a good decision.
Testing routinely and redistributing the program to users who use different options gives a much better end result - the program works correctly for everyone

Once again, thank you very much for your time. If there are any comments, problems, please feel free to write about it. The Mplayer project is not closed - if anyone has any ideas or would like to add to it, even just ideas or comments, it would be very nice.

Once again, I wish you all a peaceful and Merry Christmas

Thank you very much for your time
I don't use YT or aiostreams so I wasn't able to check it. Versions were given but there were so many that maybe something was missed.I also have multiple versions of Mplayer and a new branch of FFmpeg 6.1.
I installed aiostreams and opened the reported error on QEMU.
Thanks again for your work.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

If anyone had a similar error please check the one given in the attachment above.

@Gregor

Hi
The list of changes is always dry data.
Here in the video you can see how to use the mplayer icon in amidock to play videos.
In most cases you no longer need the mplayer-gui.
You just need to know which video output works best for you.
I have a QEMU Pegasos 2 and use the preferred video output for me.
You need to set your own.

I hope this will be useful for you

*It may take a while to set up mplayer for the first time . A database of available fonts is being built up.

@HunoPPC

I have a question for you because I had a moment to check my compilations.
topic related to https://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/ ... id=145468#forumpost145468

this is a bit older version of snes9x but here i have SDL2 via sdl12comapt
your previous version of snes9x 1.53 under sdl behaved the same way - it ate a lot of cpu.
This is related to the fact that in the previous version 1.53 you didn't use SDL fully either - only audio?
As you can see. In the version I'm preparing, the cpu consumption doesn't matter.
I think the problem is something to do with SDL1/2.
@Balaton described exactly the problems with sm502 but I wanted to make sure.

Thank you for your reply and sorry for the lame question

@HunoPPC

I tested your version from the command line.QEMU/Pegasos emulation
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but here's a quick comparison.
On Warpsnes the music plays without lag (unfortunately I didn't record a sound), the picture as you can see between transitions is smooth and the game itself is smooth.

Snes9x - sound rips, the image is not smooth.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong ? if so let me know how I can test your version properly.

I'm sure your version works well for others and I wish them a nice game and a merry Christmas too
