Re: AmigaOS 3.2 for all Classic Amigas released and available
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Got myself AOS 3.2 with real ROM's for an A1200. I don't have any expansions so it's 2MB chip only. I thought Classic and NG being compatible enough so I could just copy files from the CDROM to a CF card using the X1000. Unfortunately it's not like that. Also I was told 2MB of RAM is enough to run it.

Trying to copy files to the old CF card on the X1000 it pretty soon complained how the filesystem has errors. I stopped copying, rebooted to the beta and tried again on another partition on the same CF card. Soon I got the same error message. Then I decided to try another CF card which was FAT formatted but I wasn't using it for anything anymore so I decided to sacrifice it and install RDB and FFS to it.

This time copying files went fine. But inserting the CF into the A1200 the computer complained that some disk blocks were out of range and did put the two partitions into validating. I thought 3.2 supported long filenames so I partitioned and formatted it as DOS7. Also I noticed that almost all of RAM was consumed.

Then I decided to try one more time partitioning and formatting it to DOS2 on the X1000. I copied files from those different ADF's thinking I can install the files without any installer programs. (The third partition I made smaller than 2GB but formatted it DOS7 still.) This time the A1200 didn't complain and didn't try to validate anything. But when it boots to Workbench a popup says it's in PE environment and all the RAM is consumed still.

I'm pissed. I hope all this didn't ruin the 2 CF's completely and my old very important Sonix files are still intact on the original CF.

How do I get rid of that PE environment ? Which files I should copy to the CF from the ADF's on the CD ?

I think I'll swap the old 3.1 ROM's back to the machine and hope the old 3.1 Workbench on the original CF still works. Maybe I can sell the 3.2.

Maybe this is a warning that don't try it this way. Maybe I'm too old for this. Or the old and new doesn't fit.

Everybody get the oo.library v1.15 from os4depot.

Also, the oo.library I am using, if I recall right, has some ways to convert unicode characters.

oo.library doesn't know anything about UTF.

Do 3.2 work on an unexpanded vanilla A1200 or is a turbo and fast mem mandatory ?

Thank you both Capehill and kas1e!

The package has some familiar demos and demo effects. But going to heavier stuff my HD7770 is not fast enough unfortunately.

Thank you making these device drivers !

I got Lilliput FA1011-NP/C/T 10.1 inch touchscreen monitor. I had some trouble to get it calibrated. But after I got it calibrated it has been working fine. I'm using it next to my synthesizers to control a MIDI sequencer and other MIDI related stuff.

Re: Displaying animated GIFs / PNGs

@tomsoniq, others

You can add a datatype object into a "Reaction" layout but CHILD_DataType,TRUE is needed.
LAYOUT_AddChild,IDataTypes->NewDTObject(...,TAG_END),
CHILD_DataType,TRUE,
CHILD_NoDispose,TRUE,

I don't think a layout/window can display animations on its own, like others have said. You have to display frames one by one on your own.

Trying to display an anim gif as a datatype object that way (above) after installing gifanim datatype from os4depot simply crashes badly. In case the author of anim gif is interested it crashes with memory pointer DEADBEEF.

I think it's time to walk away and never look back.

I don't want to watch this farce anymore. I can wait a couple of days to AmiWest but if it's empty talk like before then I think it's over.

It doesn't matter who "wins" the court case. They will come out with an empty hand. The community have walked away and the last one have shut down the lights.

Damn, I missed the file number 4000. Now I'll have to wait another 998 uploads. Wait, somebody said it took 8 years to get here from 3000. That's a long wait to be the file number 5000.

I remember there's a patch tool in Aminet which patches DPaint to use datatypes. I remember being amazed using DPaint from 1988 to load PNG format invented in 1996, long time ago. Something you couldn't dream of on a Windows PC back then.

The tests from SDL_joystick_test claims that I don't have any joysticks connected which is wrong. I have Competition Pro USB connected. (See Fricking shark subject.) amigainput.library v53.4.

I tested the game with Competition Pro USB. The game character moves left, right, up and down with the joystick. But pressing fire buttons 1 and 2 nothing happens. Pressing buttons 3 and 4 the character moves left and right. The joystick was recognized automatically.
