I apologize again for using your personal e-mail a few minutes ago. It turns out I am able to get on to Amigans.net via Timberwolf. (Unfortunately, I cannot paste my mis-sent post in, so I retype.)

No problem. Everyone is invited to contact me by this mail address.

Your Refresh-All-Caches.bat suggestion worked like a charm. But I still have to click "Get" when Sylpheed comes up in order to get my new Usenet posts. How can I fix that?

Great!
Please choose the menu item "Configuration/Common Preferences" and activate "Check new mail on startup".

Is it safe to copy missing software (AbiWord, GNumeric, etc.) from my other installation of AmiCygnix, or should I try to figure out how to reinstall it all?

I recommend to install these programs using the original packages you
can download on OS4-depot. Copying these packages by hand from an older
installation is not a good idea. It is not enough to copy the
corresponding directory in "Cygnix:Software", but you can copy your
personal data you may have in these directories.

@kilaueabart

If starting the AmiCygnix desktop and other programs is slow, it is always a good idea to refresh all caches. Please launch the script

Refresh-ALL-Caches.bat

you can find in

Cygnix:S/Utilities

The desktop must be down while updating the caches!

Afterwards try to lauch the desktop again.

edit : and for Clementine, the cmake stage complains about Boost ;(

If someone likes to port Clementine he should consider, that maybe boost is not needed completely. You can compile only parts of this library. For the .docx plugin for AbiWord I needed boost, but it was only necessary to compile a small part of it.

Audacious m3u playlist cannot be read by e.g. Tunenet. As
1) path is wrong: e.g. file:///MP3/Motörhead.mp3 instead of MP3:Motörhead.mp3
2) for blanks, German Umlauts (ä,ö,ü...) etc. you will see other characters if you open playlist in a plain editor. Tunenet still doesn't understand that sort of characters.

In my opinion this is a bug in the concept of TuneNet. "M3U" is not an Amiga format, so it should be compatible with other systems and support URL notation.

Netsurf for AmiCygnix does support MNG.

Thanks for the aspell executable.

The command line

>aspell check -l en aspellch

is accepted but the behavior is not straightforward under OS4

I wanted to test it under an unix shell under Cygnix but using "run sh" does not start up a shell

Wasn't there a shell icon on the lower start bar some version ago?

My implementation of ncurses is very basic, so you migth have problems with the interface. I was able to correct a file with it though.

There is no shell available for AmiCygnix and ther wasn't one before.

@ JosDuchIt

There is a bug in my port of aspell, sorry. If you like to get a fixed binary, send me a mail (see profile).

If you like to change the language of AmiCygnix, please refer to "Cygnix:Docs/README-language".

Hi mate just a curiosity about Gimp, is there any technical issue for releasing 2.6 once 2.8 is already availible ?

Gimp 2.6 is what I can offer. It is now well tested and I worked on it for over a year.
Technically there is no big problem to port 2.8, except that I expect, that Gimp 2.8 will be horribly slow. The new Gimp uses the new GEGL graphics system. In parts it is implemented in 2.6 too and it is very slow. Maybe it can be optimized, but this means additionally work. So I guess I will need about a year (or more) to complete a port.

I guess you've installed the AmiCygnix icons from OS4-depot?? This package of course only includes icons.
The new Gimp 2.6 package will be published soon.

@emeck & JosDuchIt

This package need hunspell, but my port of AbiWord only supports aspell, hspell and ispell. I've already found a dutch package on Gnu.org and compiled it here with success. I can upload it in the next days.

@ JosDuchIt

Several language catalogs are available on OS4-depot too. Look at the packages starting with "aspell-". A french catalog is there, a dutch catalog is missing. If there is a dutch catalog for aspell, I can create a package and upload it too.

If you want to change the language in AbiWord, you must choose the menu item "Tools/Set Language...", choose the desired language in the window, activate "Make default for document" and click on "Close".

Did you enable the "Quick Transfer" mode (see myX11Setup)? Some plain X11 programs do have problems with it.
This mode is deactivated on my system and I have no freezes.

Is there a space between the quotation marks? It doesn't work with an empty string.

@Ricossa

Are you sure, that you've installed V1.3 of the AmiCygnix-Tools package?
Look into "Cygnix:CygnixPPC/etc/amicygnix-toolsversion".
The size of the Leafpad binary in "Cygnix:CygnixPPC/bin" must be 16749076 bytes.

Edit: Found a problem in the Alt + dead key support code. Maybe you get "ë" with Alt + J, which is not correct. I'll try to fix it.

@Ricossa

To get a "ë" you must type "Alt + k" and afterwards "e". Currently this only works with the new Leafpad, AbiWord needs an update.

Does it work correctly with Notepad?

Does it also not work with the new Leafpad binary? And if it doesn't, does it work with Notepad?
