@Lio

Yes, the motherboard was shown, but it not booting.
little bit disappointing stand, they should have shown some sam460 running in background.

game changer for any new PPC hardware in the Amigaverse.

Because there will be more users, and developers?

I did quick estimate, and end up at around 300mhz, based on benchmarks, someone posted, that’s not a lot, for a modern game, a modern game also needs a good gfx driver and lots of ram. You can perhaps run it but won’t be able to do a lot with it, without at least a good gfx driver.

Sure some tools and programs, but I think you get bord quick. If there some developers interested updating or porting over there software games/demos/tools/programs, that can perhaps help, with making the OS4.1 experience better on classic Amiga, and that can help everyone in PPC hardware. my personal option about that, is not great. A lot of classic developers prefers supporting OCS over RTG, I’m not saying everyone does. The more classic users with upgraded hardware that demand RTG and support modern displays, the better for the AmigaONE / OS4.1 community.

Your allowed upload incomplete work to OS4depot.net, then thing about OS4Depot.net is that you can get feedback unlike Aminet, my comment I made there, was not meant as criticism from me, merely a suggestion.

@Fairdinkem

Would something like this even be possible and would the community support such a venture?

it’s a good idea, because.

1# you need backwards compatible with PowerPC, if AmigaOS4.1 ported to ARM, writing a PowerPC to ARM jit can be useful venture to pursue that dream.

2# because PI is an open platform anyone with correct skills, can do it, they do not need to be part of development team. They just need to have the hardware. And time to do it. It’s not simple thing to do. CPU emulation happens below the OS.

Its Ratchy that’s responsible for Petunia, same person who wrote the UAE JIT for PowerPC, but it does not need to be him. There is at least 4 people in the community who has written JIT compiler and has experience with it.

@geennaam

I think I understand what your thinking, we know XMOS on X1000 is useless.
its good to know you can use XMOS X5000 for things, put the CIAA/CIAB in the XMOS chip can be doable, putting the Paula chip in there can be tricky, because AmigaOS4.1 does not allocate chip memory, instead CHIP mem is allocated in any address space, we can’t simply trap address range and forward it to an external chip.

Having external chip that can keep precise time, and generate IRQ, can be really useful for audio applications, GPIO pins can easily mapped joystick ports as well. This can improve UAE and native 68k support in X5000. The Sam460 has gpio.resource I believe, can be used for this as well.

Sure there are more things can be done, like temp monitoring and fan speed regulation.

One interesting question would be: what would entice more 68K AmigaOS users to upgrade to OS4? And how many might be interested? I get the impression that many are interested in the classic Amiga as a retro machine. The classic chipset is a must to them. Likewise, Vampire users are living their alternative future with an upgraded custom Amiga chipset. There should be some classic users who would be interested in a "nouveu-retro" AmigaOS experience if there were a compelling enough offer.

Hans

Yes, users, just wants things to work, they are not interested in the technobabble.

I am feeling of the developers missed it and assumed, that once we had good software on AmigaOS4, everyone will adapt it and update their software, well was already too late for that 2005.

the community instead doubled down on hardware upgrades, its not just chipset, its also being authentic, correct for its time-period, and so on, so you never appeal to everyone. Even if stuck some CIAA/B chips in the AmigaONE’s, and added joystick ports.

its bit odd, when think about it, Sam4x0’s and X1000, and X5000 all have gpio ports, can have been mapped to joystick ports. Its actually bit odd no one made addon for that yet. Perhaps GPIO’s can also hosted CIAA/B chips, they are quite simple 8bit circuits.

Now you also need cooper and complete aga to run 68K software native, I think going full out classic won’t make sense because have EUAE so perhaps we don’t need it, we just need to make EUAE experience better, lots of small things to fix, network support, file protection bits.

but at the end its way more expensive then a classic system is, getting price down to a price people are comfortable is also important.

X5000, X1000 is more similar to developers’ system, the gamers might be happy with simple console.

but its not just gamers, there people who are interested in music as well, sadly a lot was promised and not delivered in that apartment as well.

@kas1e

lea p61coppoke+3,a4 ; only used in P61mode >=3

Well thats not true, if I set A4 to 0xDEAD0000 and it started crashing somewhere else.

The P6112 example is really full of issues, it seems, its not good test subject to find out if there is anything not working in NallePuh.

Because first we need to disable cooper code,
and then find the bugs in P6112,
and fix the lack of conditional checks,

That seams be a issue with code, Proton / Scoopex is a guy who does not like to use LVO’s, it’s not particularly friendly code to read, (unless you remeber offset numbers) it’s not a type of code that I will call self-explanatory,
you need to take the code apart and put it back together to see what it does. If he had used more sub routines it be easier to see what code is doing, not sure if it ever was written to explained to someone. He does have some comments in there at least. Perhaps code was never reviewed, or as often is, developer works alone with little or no feedback.

I really not sure its time well spent trying to understand this code or not, we know ProTracker works in HippoPlayer with ProTracker , the trackers we have problems with is with OctaMedPlayer it might be using different playback routine for ProTracker in OctaMedPlayer. so if we do get it working, it might not explain anything.

Perhaps my time is better spent on improving blitter emulation or joystick support. Or perhaps fix the minor issues with reaction.

@kas1e

P6112

So, from what I can see P6112 has issues, first of all the example try mess with view and take over the screen, and setup copper lists. I removed that.. I added the executable file to Compatibility prefs, to disable JIT, and this what I find in DumpDebugBuffer:

a0 = 0x78

Disassembly of 68k crash site:
67B1943C: 2750 04B6 move.l (a0),0x4b6(a3)
67B19440: 43FA 0F7E lea 0x67b1a3c0(pc),a1
67B19444: 2089 move.l a1,(a0)
67B19446: 700F moveq #0xf,d0
67B19448: 4DF9 00DF F000 lea 0xdff000.l,a6
67B1944E: 7200 moveq #0,d1
67B19450: 3D41 00A8 move.w d1,0xa8(a6)
67B19454: 3D41 00B8 move.w d1,0xb8(a6)
67B19458: 3D41 00C8 move.w d1,0xc8(a6)
67B1945C: 3D41 00D8 move.w d1,0xd8(a6)

Clearly its reading from somewhere outside of chipset, so there must be some other problem that’s not related to chipset emulation probably.

anyhow by searching for move.l (A0) and looking for one with (A3) as dest, I find line 813 in P96112-play.i

there some lines before that...

move.l P61_VBR_-P61_cn(a3),a0
move.l $78(a0),a0

So something strange is happeing here...

the content if A0+0x78 should be what A0 has, but I guess, there is exception that cause the move.l to be ignored, and end up with some junk in A0.

if content of A0+0x78 is 0x78 then that is too big convenience.
If emulation is buggy, I think that’s unlikely lots of 68K programs work on AmigaOS4.

Unless I don’t know 680x0 that well, can be the case as well.

A3 is 0x67B1A556 so its not a NULL pointer.

Yes, it can be closer to 2000 Euro when it arrives, due to import tax, VAT and shipment costs.

We are in a period with high inflation, so people might want to be more careful with what they buy as well.

@328gts

I was pretty sure we had it, but it looks like a simple port / recompile of the Linux version

http://os4depot.net/?function=showfil ... rary/audio/libsidplay.lha

Its probably a day of work to mess around with xml file and idltool, copy things around and format into a normal library
(I think hippoplayer also support that lib, so can be useful.)
