@ktadd

That's great. Amigavision was a good looking program, never did think Scala was as nice but then, it's about performance not visuals?

My experience with Amigavision was a shop owner threw me the package asked me to learn to use it and create an interactive demo for the shop to show off the Amiga. So I did. Not sure if I ever did anything for myself outside of that. Always knew it had potential though.

@Swoop

That sounds comfortable, I will look at it directly after work.

She can read House and Garden and I'll be in tinkerland!

Cool!

And best of both worlds, can't lose there, thanks for the extra summary Swoop

Yes, I remember buying my a son his own A500 with A590 HD and monitor when he was 2... He just wanted too much time on DADDYs Amiga :p

Later he got an A1200 etc

These days he likes a LapTop of course

Anyway, my suggestion is this, pick up an A1200 with 030 50mhz with HD or an alternative and install the stuff you can install and get an extra disk drive for the stuff you can't and also perhaps install the odd one via whdload or another HD installer system.

adios :D

I too own quite a lot of educational software along with a magnitude of Amiga Hardware, but I suffer from an illness called 'can'tpartwithanythingamiga' and that is my biggest assest and also my largest downfall LOL

anyway, good luck with whatever path you go down

@Mason

Yes, I can see it... guess I'm still too old School where I like to know where to put everything but only because I put it there...

That's what seperates Amiga Users from other Users, in general alot of us know what every file on our machine is for... how many ibm users for example do or ever did :D

And that isn't a flame, just an observation at the time and still now...

also, good work with AISS Mason :D

Re: Amiupdate File Bonanza

I knew there was a reason when I set up my SAM to have 10g for my work partition... Had a quiet daydream of nice developing material filling up SDK to make compiling easier... yay!

Have to look into this AmiUpDate thing tonight...

Question: If I install the generic SDK, its on one of my backup DVDS from classicOS, will AmiUpDate update everything in the tree properly?

thanks

@angelheart

I can't answer that but only speculate; some things are 'protected' from modification, distribution etc etc etc unless permission has been given or a set criteria has been followed.

You'll have to wait till someone with knowledge can enlighten us, it's probably written somewhere in the SDK files.

@spotUP

I'll get the SDK installed sometime this week and check it's all going to work on the SAM... doing some reading and look through your guide etc...

Get back into compiling and also start my C programming lessons again... I shouldn't have stopped last time...

check your PM spotUP much appreciated!

@spotUP

LOL

Here I was thinking good man that spotUP he'll have that mess sorted out in regards to Circlemud shops not working or whatnot by now and I can focus on just the small cut and paste etc etc etc... ;)

I DO plan to get into C this time around, but it'll be up against my desire to get back into my 3D modelling (Imagine) but YES... I will look you up at some stage so or just send you the output from gcc etc etc when the time comes and I get stuck :p

btw, what library worked best, newlib or clib? and use any other dependencies outside the standard SDK?

thanks spotUP

do you still maintain your Compiling4Dummies txt?

@angelheart

Wasn't meaning that was the actual case just supplying a potential answer for why you could only source the SDK from the big H only. Of course, if you're merely commenting on the potentially reality of that possibility then no harm done and I'd probably agree too... but after breakfast :D

@Atheist

Shhhh... people will start to think we aren't elitests anymore...

Back in 1986 when everything Amiga cost an arm and a leg who couldn't be forgiven for feeling like they were standing on top of the world...

I would pay like $6000.00 for a single 060 accelerator for my B2000 etc etc etc... you don't want to know...

I could never understand why IBM users never had the top of the line IBM or Clone since in comparison they were pathetically cheap...

Now with the modern Age Amiga Hardware AmigaOS4.1 and Up can enjoy the cheaper way of life... and like back in 1986 I am still in control of my own money...

So bring on the 2g mhz and 8g Ram SAM... I'll buy one... heh

but on subject, I plan to learn C and then perhaps C++ but one step at a time...

@LiveForIt
@Rigo

Yes, darnit, I had looked at that idetool command too pondering on it like I had forgotten something, then just moved on to another mindless act of misdirection? LOL I had forgotten about all the tweaking I had done on the A1 that involved the UDMA and yes, better to set it in the shell than the gui...

I am relieved, it will explan why the freezing was predictable... the transfer from the other machine was a constant 550k each time the buffer would right there would be a freeze I'm guessing...

When I stopped that and did some tests, it would only freeze when something accessed the Harddrive over a certain threshold of data amount or fragmentation or whatever...

Very Good, I'm almost certain this is the problem too... very happy and also think... well this baby is going to fly along after work today...

thanks for pointing out the obvious!

Well I did actually think of that at the time, but quickly ignored the potential significance since I was trying to understand another issue.

@ZeroG

Yes, I just realised the problem hasn't completely disappeared... eliminating the SWAP partition has improved it quite considerably though...

there is no freezing when I am typing in this window now, for example...

I did notice that double clicking on the ibrowse icon did create a pause though, as with moving around 800 files from one directory into another on the same partition...

could it be related to the HD?

it's a new 160GB SATA 2 Harddrive - 16MB Cache

I don't think it's a memory problem, all memory problems always result in a guru or similair... well, in my experience anyway...

I was ftping in the background all day today, however when that finished I did some tests and the cpu was still freezing every 24 ticks...

I removed the SWAP and now it's hardly noticable...

anyway, I gotstogotobedwaveforthemomentandthanks
