(I'm really freaked out!!! I just lost an excellent post using the Koivi editor option. (The one below is fairly close to the one I made.) I selected "preview" and my whole post dissapeared except for the first 2 sentences I typed before I selected it as an option. This is AFTER I highlighted all the text and selected "copy all". IT DID NOT GET SAVED. I couldn't recover my post from the clipboard, except for the first 2 sentences. < MAJOR!)

Hi!

In case we haven't met, my name is Thierry.

I am afflicted with "Amiganism".

I refuse all attempts for cure/recovery.

In 1985-86 I read about two new platforms.

There was a fierce competition there. A rivalry.

Atari and Amiga.

I saw both, and Atari (520 ST) was behind by a stellar distance... Not even close!

I saw Amiga for what it was, and for what it could be....

It unleashed creativity. It allowed it to be shared with everyone, far and wide.

"Multi-media" had arrived, before the word was born!

And it was "PUUURFECT"!

There was Apple (Mac), Linux (later), and wretched windross...

These were not in the same league at all!!!
Lack of a "fun factor" combined with inadequate performance, missing features, and difficulty of operation were truely a "keep out" sign I obey to this day.

Given enough dedication and $$$, anywhere that the other OS' may have climbed through to, Amiga can surpass, and with eloquence and flair as well. That's why I stick by her.

THE KING IS DEAD BUT THE QUEEN STILL LIVES!

So I am here waiting, waiting, waiting....

What's the Next "Big Thing(s)"?
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

a) 4.1?
b) 4.2?
c) 4.3?

d) 64 bit implementaion of AOS4.x?
e) SMP? (Is dual core, or having TWO CPUs on the same MB an identical situation as far as SMP is concerned?)

f) Will (are?) Altivec instructions be PART of AOS? (i.e. part of CLI commands, kernal)

g) Will more sections of AOS be made in PPC assembler?

h) Multi-user and logins?
i) Memory protection

I hope these to be the case; b (is next), f, g.
e is an issue of when will the HW become available. h, I'm against.

i, I don't feel that it's absolutely required for an OS to have, and in my mind anyway, I think that neat hacks* and other things, amazing things are possible if this is never implemented.

Let's leave the "FUN" in computing, where it belongs. Certain shadowy figures are always out to control us, and I feel that computer freedom is one of the last places where induviduals have absolute freedom.

I think of computers as being a realiable extension of oneself, and therefore you want as much control over it as possible.... It's out to do your bidding (for you of course), when you are elsewhere.

Does AOS need anything, anything at all more than this to be a current, no, even, ahead of it's time, OS?

(Let's not get into applications, we ALL know that there aren't enough up-to-date ones out there. BUT, there sure is some terrific, and at least very promising stuff available. Amigans had a much higher percentage of craftsman programmers than the other platforms. Remember, we are the "FUN" platform. )

* Let's not force a closure to hacks, as they are useful, creative and fun.

P.S. Does memory protection prevent code from self modifying? I think that if AI is ever to be achieved, that self modifying code will be a component of it working.

Hi poweramiga!

This is great, they found 2 more bugs to eradicate!!!!....

This will be a TREMENDOUS advancement for AOS in our WWW viewing ability!!!!

Let's all hope that this will be a fast stable rock solid package that really demonstrates how to "do things right" to the others out there on other platforms.... (Me worried that it won't be??!!?!?!! Haahaahaahaahaa

What? Want proof? Okay, how many people did it take to program IBrowse, compared to, say, well, ANY of the other other platform WWW viewers out there?)

Please excuse my outrageous enthusiam, it's just that i KNOW that we CAN and DO do things better, otherwise, I'd be elsewhere!

(The other places don't need cheerleading, as they're ahead, just that, they don't know how good it COULD be!)

Next, Java (which is mostly open source now, n i c e) and CSS.

THEN, PPC native compile and just maybe somehow Altivec could be implemented, let's put those IC traces to the grindstone!!!

Hey, hey, NutsAboutAmiga!!!!

While a printed manual is WAY COOL, if we want to only pay US $25, a BOOK costs about $25 by itself.

AND it would be a small print run.

It's really too bad, but they can't at this time request a 20,000 print run to get as low a rate as possible.

What I'd like to see is a DVD made with almost, if not all of OS4Depot on there (useful Aminet stuff?), hi-def no loss from jpeg pictures of EVERY AmigaNG motherboard available, and lines drawn to point out all the components and their chip codes and what the dip switches do, etc., etc., also a picture of all the coders, or at least something about them, if they're too shy. Some audio of them, if they're up to it. Even something from people of the past too.

HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE????

That'd be worth throwing down US$30. (Ouch, plus shipping.)

Hi jahc, Legion,

AT LEAST it would be nice if the first three and last three pages were selectable. It can get quite messy if a topic goes out to 22 pages.

Hey there Sauron,

Oohhhh, that's just crazy talk!, ... however, eight unique directions (vert., hor., diags) on two mice = 64 "keys", almost enough to get something going. Mouse click (menu?) selects text case, making 26 movements for whole alphabet.

The Street Fighter II champs could go along with that!

P.S. A thought. I wonder if two mice could be used simultaneously on AOS4.0, just like that "paired coding" they had, with two programmers using a keyboard on same screen. (Or was that my imagination?)

The releasing of AOS4.0 IS a milestone in the history of computing.

Essentially, a 21 year old computer operating system (with complimentary HW, ALSO ahead of it's time) that was ahead of it's time and was abandoned, and left for dead has come back, not AS GOOD AS any currently availble OS, but BETTER, because it's sleek and flexible, and offers features that todays OSs DO NOT HAVE out of the box!

We are waiting for the superior OS's return!

Be among the few, the proud, there to witness it!!!

All behind AOS4.x and anyone that is coding applications for it should be honored to be a part of this!!! They are standing on the shoulders of other very, very great people*.

Quick, I need bananas!!
