Slayer can't put his hand up

Slayer thinks Gebrochen should probably be the one for this since Gebrochen has a history of speed test considerations, via MakeCD and AmiDVD writing preferences

@brotsalami

I've never brought a tower case for a pc because I've always used an Amiga system.

I ended up picking up a Thermaltake Matrix VD2000BNS and I have to say I don't think I'd use anything else... lol

It cost $200.00 for it but I'm sold, I'm going to buy another shortly and put it away to host my next SAM... probably won't get a flex, not powerful enough.

Go for it now though do not wait, the NG Amiga is GREAT!

but look, I just brought another A4000 auction, MAD as a maggot I tell ya that's number 9 heh

Hello All

I've noticed there are a couple of part-timers on here that seem to just draw on the expertise of people within this community that give very little (this means it's questionable whether it warrants identifable thanks) or no acknowledgement when there request is filled.

I want your help to end this.

Don't help them

And there is one old arguement that frankly I don't care to hear and that is: someone else will benefit by reading that thread. My answer has always been the same, That person will start there own thread if the need is great enough.

One thing I can't stand to see in a community is ignorance.

You get what you want, so show some acknowledgement.

simple maths

My time matters to me, make your time matter to you!

Lots of files on the fly or burning an image to disk?

No idea if that makes a difference or not.

Yip! I certainly find 'on the fly' is certainly slower to alot slower than buring say 5x700meg files. If you created an image first I dear say that would be even quicker than the 5x700meg but then of course, you add the time it took to create the image and the 5 images would come out on top in the end, I would think, anyway

@Gebrochen

Yes but on the A1 and burning to that DVDRW Drive with Frying Pan it would burn a full DVD in 8 mins

Always used 16x TDK DVD-R

I am going to try and get the same brand of DVDRW for the SAM but SATA

If that doesn't work then I give up

Thanks for your supportive post

Still, my main goal is to encode my own DVDs. If I've created a DVD by just pressing record, it seems these DVDs can't be read by FFMpeg/Mencoder. However, if I've made a DVD by the recorder's direct dubbing feature (copying VHS->DVD), then it works (this is the actually a disc I've just tested now with FFMpeg and Mencoder).

I'm a little confused, are you taking about the physical DVD? Or are you taking about the file format? If you are taking about the physical DVD then copy across the files first or try a different DVD medium. If you are taking about the file format then check to see if you can't change how your DVD recorder records its recording. eg My DVD recorder can record audio in PCM (default) or Mp3 (needs to be selected) The video is always MPeg.

Or maybe I am way off the track and therefore, do not worry

I installed Songplayer once to listen to some mp3s I'd created for someone as a favour and only had to install the mpeg lib from OS4depot and I must say sound from o'SAM is pretty good!

But I don't actually listen to music as a choice so perhaps my vote doesn't really count

It is another option for those which are having difficult with other setups

@nubechecorre

Ideas like this always sound good but it's a bit like the o' tradesman arrives to do a job for you around the house and you're there keeping an eye on them to ensure they do what you want. Some people don't mind, alot of people do.

I wouldn't want someone breathing down my neck personally and if the site doesn't update for a defined amount of time? It'll just give fuel to some of those people out there that have little patience for inactivity.

If there is anything to be said that we need to really hear then the people involved have many avenues to inform us, via this site or others.

We don't have to be an active part of the creation; that's what feedback in the traditional way is for.

It's just one of those things I think, the world is obsessed with being an open book or everyone is everyones next door neigbour, I like space and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

But hey, I'm not trying to be over the top, heck, Rogue and Co may even like the idea. It's just not the way I'm betting

@Antique

After the first grim reaper I increased the icon stack to 100000 however this didn't make any difference... it happens as follows:

I select the torrent and after it displays some information about it and the contents of the file to be downloaded it proceeds to convey:

Total: 1404 MB
Directory: Auto-Installer.Deluxe.v4.40.Xbox-Hq
warn. couldn't set bit field refer file "1:DL/Auto-Installer.Deluxe.v4.40.xb
This is normal if you are seeding.
Listening on 0.0.0.0:2706

The GR appears:

Guru Meditation: 80000003
Task 0x5bbddc60 ("ctorrent"}
generated an error of type DSI (Data Storage Interrupt)
on address 0x6fb4c7a8
Redzone was not damaged
Stackpointer is inside bounds

I haven't tried higher stacks than 100,000 but that should be plenty anyway?

1:DL/ is my download partition

I suspect in that warn line it cu off at xb is because the window displayed isn't wide enough?

hope that helps?

I am not completely happy with the speeds writing to DVD via FryingPan and I'm just wondering if there something I can do as in regards to getting a different brand of DVDRW and/or a different type of HD to write from.

I have a brand new 160g Western Digital that hosts workbench and the download directory and a brand new 320g Seagate that hosts storage material and I usually burn from that HD

The DVDRW is a ASUS DRW-2014S1T a drive I know little about and one I wouldn't have probably brought if there were anything else SATA available in the store.

here is the print out of the drives and settings, I noticed an extra setting on the 320g perhaps it's not good? I took someones advise about using GGGG to setenv etc...

when I use say makecd to burn a CD or whatnot it FLIES along... burning a full cd in 3 mins...

any ideas?

I know I haven't given you any ideas about how fast it burns a dvd but lets put it this way, the dead A1 could burn a dvd in under 10mins... this SAM to DVDRW is taking almost 30mins to do the same thing...

edit: just noticed the 320 is running JXFileSystem4 4.33 I was meaning to convert them all back to SFS, perhaps that has some bearing on the matter; just quickly checked, all partitions are 512 blocks and sporting 1024 buffers

the partitions on the 160 use SFS and they would be the same settings and I seem to remember having better speed from that HD when burning... not entirely sure though

I'm a little confused here because I thought SATA was a good step forward, perhaps it's just the same as IDE just a different plug? you'd think everything would be perfectly sorted these days

Small update, got it going, my first torrent! and woha, average speed was 400k/s I didn't think that was too bad

but ctorrent with gui didn't work, kept returning that it couldn't bind to it or something then a line about listening on 0,0,0,2764 or there abouts

I downloaded transmission with a gui and that worked flawlessly

again, thanks for getting me started
