Thanks for sharing this. It would be a nice upgrade, huh!!
Hi poweramiga, Wait, a G4 running at 2.0 GHz? I thought the fastest, not overclocked they made was 1.7 GHz? So, do you know if this is overclocked or not? Also, thought the voltage has to go up at higher clock speeds?

Quote: ssolie wrote: @afxgroup Cool stuff! I hope ACube Systems will be able to do upgrades/repairs soon. We all know there are many people with dead CPU modules and if they can get them working again for a reasonable price we can get some users back. Hi ssolie, Well, let's not go overboard now. Many? If there are about 1,200 (micro)AmigaOnes out there, maybe 30 to 60 have failed, and a portion of those are due to overclocking, and probably wrong voltage settings too. Some didn't have adequate cooling, and maybe even were run in rooms with too high ambient temperatures, as well i.e. the height of summer. We don't know all the stories. However, maybe the CPU itself is defective and motoscum (failing to deliver on low power, high performance silicon) should be held accountable, I don't know. I mean, which other ICs on the MB failed as well, you have to ask. I don't recall almost any other ICs, in general, being destroyed as well. Anyhow, on topic, really, I'll only be excited if they can offer a 1.6, 1.7 or higher GHz CPU for my G4 A1XE. Although, this is awesome news for the ones who don't have ANY CPU that is working. Major question is, do any who upgrade hold on to their 933 MHz as a backup, or pass it on to someone else who could use it? How close are these CPUs to the end of production runs (hence lack of availability) from ibum and motoscum? It's taken a long, long time, but our hobby computer will be mainstream as it should always have been, in the near future!!! Wooohooo!

Hi T_Power, It's about time!!!!!They are supposed to be working on a 16 core CPU too!!!! Well, well, well,.... I can see a Panda super MB with 2 of these on it!!! It would be MUCH easier to get AOS4.1 or 2 to work on this than a Cell CPU. That would be 8 GHz of P O W E R and say 2 Gigs of ram per core, W O W!!!!!!!! Throw in a little Altivec action and Amiga delivers!! Baby! There is NO GAME not capable to run on that monster! Server class!! AmigaNG! AOS4.x! The game is beginning!

Hi cirabre, IBM is a sad and pathetic company. Seems to me that for every 10 items they announce (which are amazingly ahead of our time, too), they actually produce one, and it's very, very, very expensive too. Also, by the time they launch IT ALMOST everyone else has caught UP!!! I do NOT doubt their research capabilities, just their bringing products to market part at common people pricing. I have NO idea how they survive. (Must be some secret government pet project, ala X-Files, keeping them alive (secret funds channeled into the corp f. ex.).) HEY!!! Check it out!!!!! Quote: Rapport currently offers a KC256 chip featuring 256 processing elements for more than 25 gigabyte operations per second using less than a single watt of electricity. That processor is available with development platform and tools. AVAILABLE NOW! (04/05/06 1:48 PM PT) So how many here own one? Quote: Different Application
Instead of running Windows, Linux, or other modern computer operating systems, the architecture and high-density cores of chips such as Kilocore are best suited to specific algorithms, including video and code compression, Reynolds said.
"It's really focused on doing a single task very well," he said.
Although Kilocore's promoters touted the ability to dynamically reconfigure the chip for compute-intensive applications Get the Facts on BlackBerry Business Solutions, Reynolds indicated such work can be difficult. Quote: "We couldn't have built this relationship without Power.org," said Rapport President Frank Sinton. "Combining the outstanding Power architecture with Kilocore will open up Power's extensive application base and developer community to the world of handheld, mobile and in-the-field computing." Always a rosey picture, though never any genuine developments, truely ibm inaction. How many handhelds use this today? The idea was to have motherboards that use Cell processors. They're $5,000 dollars each, and STILL aren't available as the PS3 is using up every one produced. I say, buy JUST the PS3 MB and sell it as an Amiga.... Just need it to be able to put more ram on there.... up to 16 GB. Oh and a SATA and RAID controller. Added: Heh, check it out, http://www.technewsworld.com/story/42894.html

If the hardware is sold only with OS4, then the hardware company will go bust, and there will no hardware for those who want Amiga OS 4. It's suicide for all involved. Remember OS4 ATM uses a different Uboot setup also. For the boards to be priced low they are going to have to have a market to sell to. Sell it for all the OSes - Linux, BSD, Amiga OS, Morph OS, Solaris etc. if it helps to keep hardware available for OS4, who cares. It's about survival.
OS4 needs to be written for more platforms and not rely on a specific board or its DEATH. Hi wolfe, Well, that WAS the whole idea behind Amiga Inc.'s strategy, some manufacturer gets involved with producing AmigaOS MBs ( exclusive), nothing else. If they don't have enough capital to do so, then why do they bother? Nothing wrong with that strategy, I applaud them for being bold enough to do so, it's just unfortunate that there is only ONE corporation, induvidual, that had the guts to get involved, and that's Alan Redhouse, owner of Eyetech.... Thank you Alan. I'm sorry that things didn't quite work out. Okay, there are a few others, but nothings come of them yet, and apologies to those unknown, that tried, and/or failed, or are still advancing toward introduction of something. I fully intend on buying one of the new boards that are released, and will help by (as I've said before) not selling the AmigaOne XE I have right now. That should create two AOS4.x NG customers for a company or at least one for a competitor. I plan to loan out the new one to someone to see if they'll buy an Amiga NG.

Hi Helge,
If it's optional, then they won't be inclined to pay for it.
If Hyperion Entertainment knows someone is using a pirated copy of AOS4.x, what can they do about it?
The music industry can't even sue people that have 100 entire music albums on their hard drive, illegally!

Hi All,
I think that only industrial clientele will be able to buy Samantha without AOS4.x CDs.
It would completely defeat the premise of why licensing was created if AOS4.x capable MBs were available for general sale, and AOS4.x was COMPLETELY optional. Sales would be near non-existent (is my view).
