Is it a Uboot or OS4.1 issue? I am going to try it in the LE and see. I thought I read from a user that it has to be a 2 port card only. I'm pretty sure its UBoot. I know that the X5000 (and almost certainly the X5040) won't boot off anything other than the motherboard Sata.

@rjd324
Yup, generally I find transfer speeds on OS4 to be a fraction of what my network and hardware are capable of.
When I used to still run Linux, I would get much higher speeds on the same hardware, both upload and download.
I subscribe to FileFactory, which allows me full download speed. Downloading a movie from there by Odyssey can take a couple of hours. On Windows, its much quicker - maybe 30 minutes.
I had a bit of a moan about it somewhere - probably here on Amigans - a few years ago, but, like Niels' response, was met with bafflement. So I don't know if its just some of us or what. Maybe local config? Maybe something with our ISP? Dunno.

@monomango Quote: monomango wrote:@daveyw Interesting, you mean the CPU cooler here?! Yep. Bear in mind I am talking about the XE not SE, but I would recommend at least thinking about it. I don't know too much about the SE but I'm guessing its broadly similar to the XE but with a G The A1XE shipped with a terrible CPU cooler that was not well installed. Replacing it with something better resulted in a dramatic improvement in stability. The first choice of most of us was the Valman VF900. I think this was the site I used as a guide - I'm not sure, it was about 10 years ago! https://amigaone.wordpress.com/kacik-a ... e/zalman-vf900-cu-review/ The problem is getting hold of the Zalman VF900 these days will be virtually impossible - you'd need to find something similar. And the trick is to look for GPU not CPU coolers, they will be more compatible with the AmigaOne CPU module.

On my un-fixed A1XE I was able to get USB working very reliably by sorting the cooling. I replaced the stock cooler and that dramatically improved USB transfers. I would recommend trying that on your SE before a DMA fix.

@amiganuts
I used a white Zalman case when I built my X5000, and I don't recommend it as it as turned yellow thanks to New Zealand's harsh UV.
If I could I would rebuild it with black case.

The documentation makes no reference to an Arexx port, so I guess it would be impossible.

@rjd324
Also double check your drive cables. I had alot of boot problems earlier this year which I traced to a loose sata connection.

In any case I think the OS4 RTL drivers have issues. Compared to my XE my X1000 network is slow. My XE can max out my internet but my X1000 doesn't. Linux runs at full speed on both network adapters. Internal and RTL8169 PCI I think it is. Interesting. Yes, back when I had an RTL8169 in my X5000 I moaned how slow it was under OS4 vs the same hardware under Linux. But the RTL8169 was a temperamental beastie and eventually stopped working so I switched to the onboard ethernet. Sadly my XE no longer boots so I can't check the speed there.

Hi,
Just want to confirm this is expected behaviour. If I try and delete something that doesn't exists, e.g.
Delete ram:ThisDoesntExist
I get "ram:ThisDoesntExist Not Deleted: object not found" in the console.
But I can't seem to suppress this. Adding >NIL: or QUIET has no effect, and I still get the response.
Tried with delete 53.4 and 53.1

On my X5000, the boot logo appears pretty quickly, then stays frozen for around 10 seconds before the animation commences. I have amigabootmenu_animate set to 1 and amigabootmenu_anicycles set to 1.

It's a shame AEON haven't worked to fix these problems; I don't have any numbers buf I suspect the X1000 userbase is larger.
I guess with Apple swallowing Pwrficient I suppose the network driver will never happen, but I wonder if the CFE shortfalls could be remedied.

BTW, your installation makes no reference to an optical drive and the case doesn't appear to have 5 1/4 inch bays, but you're installing from CD. Did you use an external drive?

Very nice video, the graphics are very cool and professional.
Laughed at your use of matches to strip the wires - some of us use wire-strippers instead!

@Raziel
If you're using AREXX, maybe write the initial line "Working on", and then append the first iteration. Then close the file. For subsequent iterations, open the file, seek to the 13th character and over-write. May need to pad in case the new data is shorter than the old. Then close the file, and repeat on further iterations.
Not sure I understand what you're doing, but it sounds like string manipulation and inserting rather than appending is your answer.
