@white
@Maijestro

Thank you for all your discussion and insights into this topic.

I welcome polite discussion about emulation, OS4, MorphOS, AROS and hardware.

Since I already own an OS4 system, it never occurred to me to attempt to emulate OS4 on other hardware.

But this has been an interesting discussion and you guys have put in alot of effort.

Thanks so much,
redfox

P.S. I have done more traditional emulation.
In my case, OS3 running on E-UAE running on OS4.

@walkero

On my MicroA1, I use an old IBM PS/2 keyboard and an optical mouse with a green USB to PS/2 adapter. I always found these PS/2 devices to be more reliable than USB equivalents.

However, my three USB sticks work well as USB1 storage devices.

@rjd324

I can't speak for X1000 or X5000 because I don't own either one.

AmiDVD from Enhancer Software version 2.2 works fine on my OS4 system.

MicroA1 with hard drive and combo drive (CD reader/writer).
Both drives are connected to the onboard IDE ports.
I use CD-R discs for bootable backups and recovery discs.

And what about Enhancer 2 - Basic ? Or Enhancer Utilities ?

I.e. full Enhancer without Warp3DNova, RadeonHD, RadeonRX, OGLES,
but with all other commodities, utilities, SFS2, libraries, commands and tools.

In 2019, I purchased Enhancer Software Special Edition V1.5 for my MicroA1.

In August 2022, I purchased Enhancer Software V2.2 for the same machine, to support A-EON and to get a working copy of AmiDVD. Of course, I can't use any of the graphics enhancements on my system.

I agree though. If I had more than one system, I would want the full package for an X5000 or X1000 or SAM460LE and something similar to Special Edition for my MicroA1.

@amiganuts

Perhaps others should comment here, but I think that
sii3112ide_xfer GG
means maximum speed with DMA enabled.

Maybe lower the speed a bit for testing.

And maybe a smaller partition for your main system partition.

Please note that I do not have a SAM460 or an SSD.

My OS4 system is a very old system with conventional hard drive and combo DVD drive. My actual system partition is 2 GB and formatted as SFS/00. Block size 512.

Hopefully someone with SAM460 will give you some more info.

@kas1e

I agree. This software should be available on OS4Depot.

But for some reason, A-EON want to do it their own way.

@AmigaOldskooler

Thanks so much for your monthly roundups.

I used IBrowse 2.5.7 to view the November 2022 roundup.

Unfortunately, on my OS4 system, Odyssey croaks on this roundup webpage.

Re: Switch between many amigaos4 machines

@kas1e

My experience audio mixing is limited to "left" and "right" audio.

During my days in the Canadian telecom industry, we used digital data combiner bridges made by many companies. Most were used for master/slave operations, where a "master" computer polled many remote "slave" devices. All the slave devices listened to the master and only replied when given permission.

Your application is the reverse. One terminal listening to four computers.

If you are only dealing with data in one direction, a simple TTL or CMOS 4-port OR-gate should work as the combiner. But you would need to translate RS-232 voltages down to the TTL/CMOS logic voltage levels used by the OR-gate. This circuit becomes more complicated if you need to pass RS-232 control signals as well as data. In theory you don't need to pass data back from your terminal to the active computer.

Another device I saw years ago was a standalone device with five serial ports. This device contained a Z80 CPU, ROM, RAM and serial ports. It could be used in the master/slave polling environment (master computer polling four slave devices), or four computers sharing a serial printer.

I don't know of any companies that sell these devices.

Re: MediaVault releases

@walkero

I downloaded MediaVault today. I like it very much. Currently using AmigaAMP3 as default.

I used the auto update feature to update to version 1.5.1.

Occasionally I get a requester to assign https: ... not sure if this comes from MediaVault or AmigaAMP. I think it happens if the AmigaAMP window is already open and I attempt to choose a different radio station. As long as I close the original AmigaAMP window, choose a different station and click the MediaVault button, everything seems to work ok.

I really like listening to streaming music via AmigaAMP while surfing the net with IBrowse 2.5.7.

Your program makes this so easy. Thanks so much.

Re: Old AmigaOS 4 versions and new software

@walkero

After all these years, I would not expect a programmer to support AmigaOS 4.0.

In general, I think it makes sense to target the most recent publicly available version of AmigaOS4.

So, for now that would be AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 2

For example, if a new program requires Enhancer components, then it would be polite to specify that in the requirements.

For example, one program I use needs several of the Enhancer Core classes. These requirements are specified in the docs and on OS4Depot.

In my own case, I am limited by my hardware.

My MicroA1 is an excellent little system for my needs, but I am limited to the onboard Radeon 7000 graphics and 32 MB video ram.

I am running AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 2 plus selected bits and pieces from Enhancer Software 2.2
