Re: Do we have fast, accelerated, bug-free, supporting scaling SNES emulator ?

@Maijestro
I just for checking recompiled Dgen . I didn't do anything with it - it works right away. Dgen is "endian safe"
If the window is too small you can stretch it as it suits you. You can also use -X -Y.
This is the SDL1 port.

@kas1e
N64 emulation would definitely be cool for AOS4. I hope someone will do it.
I generally don't like GUIs in such programs either. I also don't like scaling and blurring.
In emulators I like how they are 1:1 with all their drawbacks.

To sum up.
Everyone likes something different and that's fine
Dgen is open source everyone can adapt it as they like.
It would be nice if later these changes were still made available.
I myself for experiment Dgen will adapt it for myself, but I have a specific taste....

@ktadd

First of all, thank you very much for all the help I got from you with our project.
Without your help, some of the bugs and caveats would not have made it to the new version of Mplayer.
Thank you again for your help

The ffmpeg libraries are currently used by probably all programs that play video files under AOS4.
It uses Emotion, Mplayer. FFmpeg and its libraries are number one in the world of open source video processing software.

Mencoder is geared toward converting video files. Some video codecs can be independent of ffmpeg or use its capabilities.
It also has its own CLI.
Some codecs from ffmpeg may not work properly with Mencoder.
Mencoder itself is a separate program. Mplayer does not need video and audio encoder to play files and when it is compiled, ffmpeg itself has them disabled.

FFmpeg is a powerful tool but in a way Mendocer can develop this under its profile.

I don't know why no one has tried to help you before regarding Mencoder.
It is possible , that it requires double work. You must have a working ffmpeg with video encoder and a working mplayer package.

In SimpleSub it seems to me that the use of ffmpeg is better and you made the right decision to have your program based on it.

Mencoder, if it has a simple GUI and unnecessary encodings disabled, can be a nice program for quick file conversion without delving into the ins and outs of the command line and ffmpeg codec options.

I hope I explained it sensibly

@cloverskull

If you have Linux x86_64 preferably all in one place. For example.

https://hub.docker.com/r/walkero/amigagccondocker

If you have native AmigaOS4 - install SDK. There you have all the libraries you need for compilation.

https://www.hyperion-entertainment.com ... oads?view=files&parent=30

E-UAE for sure get on because I once tried.
On macOS ARM I do not know.
I wish you to "break your legs".

edit:

If I don't know anything about SDK I recommend ->

the whole series ...all episodes

I recently needed some quick-to-use decoding of simple videos on AOS4.
It doesn't have a GUI but MEncoder is tan great and simply configurable , maybe it should be resurrected ?

@LiveForIt

Yes you are right. I checked on the older version that I have on the AmigaOne.
Here you can see that the interface breaks down terribly.

@LiveForIt

Thank you for the detailed explanation.

Some applications from AOS 3.x do work. My favourite is UHC-GUI, which is currently probably my most used application under AOS4

I hope that IMP3 will work just fine on AOS4.

@Maijestro

Yes
IMP3 is a cool program for amiga clasic. I like Amiga clasic and NG.
Amiga 500 mini, pistorm and emulations gave amiga classic new wings.
Lots of cool stuff and novelties are created. It's hard to say but Amiga NG ....... is left behind.

Here you have my AOS3.2 workbench how it looks like, because I know you don't use amiga classic. I have of course a real Amiga 500 and an emulation

@HunoPPC thank you very much for the great version !!! good job !!!

@mufa Dzięki za świetne film !!! (Thanks for a great video)

My thoughts. I think this is the best snes emulation on AOS4

I'm trying to make a more amiga version and simple version snes9x.
Some configuration via tooltypes, booting from rom etc.

If someone would like to test it on a real machine I would be very grateful - I only use QEMU.
Please contact me by PM via the forum

Here a presentation of how it currently works. (thanks @Maijestro for helping me get my apple to record sound)

@Maijestro

This version is intended to be extremely simple and fast.
There will be no GUI. It will boot up and wait for the rom.
A box to run without tinkering with settings when you want to play something quickly.
Mostly you play one game, so you don't need an online backup of all the roms on disk.
You simply place the rom you want to play in the location of your choice and run it.
There shouldn't be any settings. You launch and play. It needs to be fast and run just as fast on QEMU.

Here's a sketch of what it will currently look like. Full-screen switching as you can see works.

https://streamable.com/tk836o

It works on Linux, it works on AOS4, it should work on Morphos too.
Once I've cleaned up the debug and fixed a few things , I'll send it to you for testing.

Iin the sdl2 version this should be easy to do.

I am trying to make my own version of the older snes9x version but more for older machines.
I've managed to get the cpu consumption down quite nicely (I'm using QEMU emulation and a graphics card without any sm502 acceleration). Mainly thanks to @Javier who provides his versions of the programs with the source code he has improved and it is a good learning experience - many thanks !!!!.

This is not meant to be a competition for @HunoPPC and @Olle's versions - but a simple version for QEMU users.

@Maijestro
I'm still convinced that @HunoPPC's port is slow.
You can see the CPU consumption of the x5000 in the uploaded videos. Close to 50-70%.
X5000 is not a slow machine.
This is great work @HunoPPC and a nice version but not for weaker machines. For the X5000 for sure.

I hope @Olle's will complete the work on the older version.
Many platforms still use older versions of snes9x because they are faster.
I don't know how @HunoPPC's version will work on A1222+/Tabor. Surely there will be a faster older version of snes9x for that machine.

You can see on the video the SDL2 version how much CPU it eats.
Sound not recorded but probably the same problem.

Here are the values I use.

z3mem-size=256
gfxcard_type=ZorroIII
gfxcard_size=8

I've been playing Project Quest lately - no graphics card required. But maybe you'll like it and add it to your list

After checking @MamePPCA1's configuration
should be z3mem_size=256

@MamePPCA1

Check maybe the configuration that @Maijestro gave you.
See from which Amiga you have the kickstart.

"E-UAE_1.0.0_AmigaOS4" is a generic term. See os4depot after typing UAE.
Try this one to get your UAEGFX "e-uae-sdl - Classic Amiga Emulation (JIT + SDLGFX driver)" to work.
You have to install probably "Picasso96" for AOS3.9. I don't use/have not used 3.9 so I'm not 100% sure if it's already there.

The e-uae are also available in the RunInUAE package. Here the link
https://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=110393.
@kas1e also prepared his compilation which were fast....

But...
To start with, it's best to try one configuracfia with e-uae-sdl for peace of mind.
Back up your current config with a clean config file.
Add to it floppy0= with workbench floppy disk.
Add options that interest you, cpu ram ...
Check one by one what changes and what does not by running the emulation.
Gradually remove and correct the different values.
You are sure to get the system you need.
In addition, you will have more satisfaction than using ready-made solutions.

If you have any problems, post them on the forum - there are certainly better people than me here and they will certainly help you too.

I saw in your video that you use a special E-Uae version G4, this is based on SDL2 or SDL12 Compat?

Are you still working on the port?

These are old files. They run on qemu pegasos g4 maybe the names are misleading.
I managed to recover some of them after data loss.
It does not compile anything with uae. There are no new versions of e-uae under AOS4.
The only news I saw on abime.net is that someone is trying to combine E-UAE-PPC-JIT with PUAE.
But I haven't checked that.

@MamePPCA1

From what I noticed you want to emulate A4000.
You did not write exactly which Amiga you want to emulate.
If you are using "rom.key" it is possible that you are using the kickstart from "Amiga Forever" but there is no amiga/kickstart model.

Definitely change this

cpu_speed=real to cpu_speed=max

If you want to emulate A4000 from what I remember z3mem will be used as FAST memory.
You can set z3mem_size=128. From what I remember FAST memory must be set to 0.

UAEGFX settings are here gfxcard_size=
You did not write which version of E-UAE you are using (SDL,amigfx...old git
LiveForIt) and you don't know if it will work for you

Don't set JIT if you want to use it only for games. You have a powerful X5000 machine.
If the game works you can always add to the configuration as described by Maijestro and see if everything will work fine.

I hope my information will help you

EDIT:
Here you have my system boot and configuration.
I'm using E-UAE SDL on QEMU PPC AOS 3.2 (the delay in booting is due to the fact that I'm using AOS 3.2, for you it will be faster on AOS 3.9)
